I guess this is a complaint.
My wife and I enjoy playing golf together and try to play as often as we can. We score pretty much the same so it is competitive and fun. Good quality time together. We talk about the kids, life, family, enjoy the wildlife and views etc
When I travel on business we always try to find places to play

I read the major golf magazines and it is interesting to see their ratings of public courses and what it costs to play them. Most of them are $100 or more. If you go to a resort it could cost $150-$250 to play the course(s). For us that is $500.

Well it is somewhat frustrating for us because we are not able to play the best rated or more beautiful courses. With drinks and tips it could cost us $300 - 500 to play 3.5 hrs of golf.

Not much that can be done about it, but, had never complained about it in writing and it is always in the back of my mind.

Dude, that is AWESOME! As far as I am concerned, you have reached Elysium: Golf+Wife=happiness. Did she learn to play after meeting you?

Sorry to hear about the cost issues. Golf is pricey, and playing with the wife is double pricey. I don't have any suggestions as my wife rides along with me, which is usually between free and $15 dollars.

I'd like to point out it's also awesome because you can compete during your short game practice and both get better As for resorts, have you considered off-season? I played three rounds of golf, with cart, with a friend this past August in the SoCal desert. Trilogy at La Quinta cost us $35 each. We saw one other person on the course that day.

A friend of mine once told me that it is not where you play but what you play (it was my mantra when I was young and broke). Living in Florida, you know of all the afternoon deals and off season secrets that are available. If you are playing often and really enjoy the lifestyle, you could join a club. If this post just elaborates on the cost of golf, you are correct, as it does cost money to play the best courses, but I am glad to see the 3.5 hour figure.

Bought my wife a half set of clubs 8 year ago. Hopefully my eldest son (13 yo) will be able to play with them soon.

Golf course is 5 min away, but she never has enough time. (It's OK, I'm coping.)

BTW, come to Australia... Your American peso isn't worth quite as much as it used to, but most championship quality resport courses here are AUD $100 - $150. Good quality courses in the outer metro or country areas are around $50 - $80 a round, cart a bit more on top. Melbourne is one of the golf capitals of the world, we are spoiled for choice and rarely have to break double figures for a great day out.

G-funk. I had been playing for some time and after our youngest left for college I convinced her to try it out. Gave her lessons as a gift. She is now addicted.
We do try to play in Fla in the afternoons in the summer but that is also thunderstorm-lightning time (that is why ther lower the rates)
We also wait for spring and fall when rates drop dramatically and resorts offer weekend discounts.
But..............going to a meeting in Las Vegas at the end of February and there is no way we could play any good course ($300-400 per person!!!)

Unfortunately, we do love to walk but in Fl they do not allow it in most (close to all) courses. We lived in NC for a yr and walked all the time. I even offered some courses the cart fee if they would let us walk late in the afternoon but got a negative response.

Ok...................we should start golf laws of the land:
1) 20% discount for two players if thasy show they have been married . 10 yrs (shows commitment)
2) All courses must have at least one day or two PM's where people are allowed to walk

Seriously, this makes me so happy to read! My wife and I are in our early 30's and after the baby comes, I am gonna entice her into it. She already has her first par! (54yd par 3)

I am starting a thread. . .

Man, grow a pair, get some male golfing buddies and take a man-cation. I have done it several times. A good foursome or even threesome of buddies heading out for a few days is great fun.

Go to golf course web search and look for 18 hole courses in vegas. don't check the option 18+ holes as you will not find many, check 18 holes. All the people that live in vegas don't pay top dollar to play and you can find some real gems in the lower $$ range some will even allow you to walk.

Okay then I am confused, if you like playing with your wife then why are you on here complaining. You can't have your cake and eat it too. If your wife is your golf companion and you like it that way then don't compain. If you want to play more often without her then do that. Hell, as far as my wife and I are concerned happiness is seperate bank accounts. Make her pay her own green fees!
