Hi all,

I’m an intermediate golf returning to the sport after a number of years.

I’d like to buy a set of second-hand clubs which are within my budget.

My options so far are the following:

- Wilson Staff C100 irons
- Ping Rapture V1 irons
- Ping Eye 2 irons (from the 80s)
- Calloway Big Berthas (from the 90s)

How would you rank the choices above? Keen to hear your thoughts!

Welcome to the site.

You should verify before you buy any of these irons that they are at least still conforming with the groove rules in force today.  In terms of ranking, I'm not sure what your budget is or your handicap but these are all very different irons and would be hard for anyone to rank without knowing your swing and preferences.  As important as the head is, knowing the shafts and stiffness is important too.

Big Bertha's were released multiple years so not sure which ones you're considering, but I'd probably go with those over the other 3 given the limited information you provided.

What is your budget, as I'd think you'd be able to get newer clubs than the ones you listed.

I'm not sure what your budget is, but most of those could be had for under $250. But, as NGT said, the grooves might not conform... and, they might be pretty beat up by now.

In the Callaway line, if you jumped ahead to the RazrX (2011) irons and XHot (2013) irons, you could have much newer irons for $450 or less. Check Callaway Pre-Owned for specific offerings.

Whatever irons you move to, hit them before you buy to make sure they fit your swing. (Callaway Pre-Owned will meet you halfway: CPO has a store-credit policy if you try out some irons but they don't work for you.)

Focus, connect and follow through!
