My mate steps up to the tee and was feeling the pressure as we had three groundsman and a two ball that caught us up watching - due to the number of people I stand off to the right of him, he launches his drive with a wild low running slice which proceeds to hit me straight in the soft leather of my shoe. I pause. Let it sink in, then hit the deck screaming in pain. Great golfing moments.

I don't think there was a single dry eye due to laughter, I am sure it will go down in their own personal golfing tales for years to come, my mate as quick as a flash looks at the two ball and said "maybe you should play through".

Ouch- but are you sure it was just a "low running slice" or are you just being generous with the language. Sounds like he had to shank it or hit with the very toe of the club to send one so off-line to hit you.  I think of a low running slice as maybe clipping someone at a PGA gallery when they form one of those narrow tunnels off the tee.

Or maybe you were well forward of the tee box? In any case, I guess just be glad is wasn't a higher (as in head level) slice!! And I suppose that from now on, that guy's "cone of vulnerability" has significantly widened for where you can stand in the future!

I was being very generous with my language :-)  It was more of an ugly hacking swing with a god awful shank (he is a righty and the ball went right and ground level low). I was stood forward and right - a stupid place to stand, so I also have myself to blame. I am standing behind everyone from now on, lesson learnt.

    • Live Updates from the range! Open the club face at address, and trust that you’re gonna be able to get the face in a good position at impact. I don’t have to feel like I have to keep the face open throughout the entire downswing. The swing feels much more free-flowing through impact. Difference in ball flight is that previously it would be a low to mid trajectory that starts straight and draw left, or slight pulls. New ball flight are high push draws.  It’s kind of stupid. I feel like it should slice off the planet. I look up and it’s maybe a slight push. 🤣 Some distant wedge feels. More weight on front foot. Keep weight on front foot.  Pivot around left knee. Solid contact all the time.

    • Day 2:  I hit a bucket of balls this morning.  Not gonna lie, almost didn’t go since it was my first time going alone and it was a little intimidating.  I mostly hit with my driver (the last bit of balls was with my 7 iron).  The sun was in my face but I think the ones that had good contact with went the furthest yet (maybe 150 yards then a good roll?).  Once I switched to my 7, the first half of my balls were crap.  I’ve always hit my irons before my driver when practicing and done fine - does this make any difference or is it just because I’m so green?
    • It's likely per "category" of clubs, so irons would be one category, wedges would be a category, driver a category, fairway woods/hybrid a category, etc. They aren't going to charge you $50 per iron for a fitting. Almost all iron fittings are done with like a 6 or 7 iron, fitters don't carry full sets of every iron. So yes, if you use a 7 iron for the fitting and let's say you get fit into the P790 with a certain shaft, 1 degree flat and .5" longer than normal you would just order the full set of P790s with that shaft/lie angle/length combination and you'll be perfectly fine.
