Currently I am playing MP-33s with the s300 shafts +1.5" From what I can tell these shafts are stock 130grams. I am not sure what the extra length adds to them.

I hit the ball fairly high, which is fine, straight to slight fade, I like that as my base swing, keeping the ball low when needed is no problem for me. I feel that with the heavier clubs my temp gets off some esp near the end of the rounds.

My fear is obviously putting a shaft in that is too lite. I hit some balls at the range a few times with some S58s +1.5" with the AWT steel. 108g weight. They felt very good in my hands. I also hit them in a indoor monitor and was actually hitting them a tad lower than my 33s. I hit them about 10yds further, which i figured I would add some distance but that is not a concern. I felt I could control the club better and didnt need so much effor to keep the club on plane.

Project X are 120g stock, I am thinking this might be a good in between weight for me. http://www.golfsmith.com/products/RPXT I know these will make me hit the ball a bit lower and im fine with that. Honestly everything that has been given to me telling me im going to hit the ball lower has not had that great of an effect. However I have not tried these shafts.

There are also these, which I have not heard much about. http://www.golfsmith.com/products/2008T Stiff 106, Xstiff 108.

Dont forget plus I will be addint +1.5" to each shaft. Are there any recommendattions for a good light shaft? Or anything about the weight of the club? How big of a difference is -10 grams going to be? At what point is it noticeable?

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
