What is the difference between hunting range finders and golf range finders. Bushnells are like 250+ for golf but less than 200 for hunting. What is the difference?

i havent used a hunting one, but i have the bushnell pinseeker 1500 and the pinseeker technology would be the main difference. you can focus in on the flag, or on a tree or lip of a bunker. i highly recomend it to anyone, even for the $400 it goes for. very accurate and fast.

The problem being solved between the two is really pretty different. In hunting you are usually trying to find something of some size often times stuck in the middle of little stuff (like branches).

In golf you are trying to find something pretty small (pin/flag) basically out in the open - or at least if front of "the other stuff".

Nikon's 500G Lasercaddy has what they call "first priority mode". It tends to find the target that is closest to you (the norm in golf). That would not necessarily be a good thing in hunting.

I really like the 500G because it is pretty good at finding pins/flags (admittedly not quite as good as the Bushnell 1500), and much more compact that the 1500 (I can carry the Nikon easily in my front pocket).

if you can find a gps (e.g Skycaddie) system where they have actually walked and mapped your course - not just used satellite photos you will be very impressed. They are fantastic and u can find them quite cheaply on ebay
