Hi guys,

I'm completely new to this so bare with me please.  I'm really interested in getting fitted for the M1 3wood and the standard epic driver. I'm currently playing the G25 driver and 3wood and i was wondering what kind of upgrade in performance I'd be looking at.  I play off 12.6 and swing a driver at 110mph.  Never been fit before and I currently use stock regular shafts ( I know completely wrong for me bt I've only just taken a real interest in the sport recently and discovered that my clubs are bad fit for me.

I'd appreciate everyone's thoughts and thanks in advance.

I think most people would say that it is not possible to provide any sensible estimations as it depends more on how well you are suited to your current equipment than the equipment itself.

What I can say is that I recently changed from a fitted Callaway V Series Driver and non fitted V Series 3 Wood to a fitted Callaway Epic Driver and a 2016 M2 FW.

For me my older driver was far too spinny and I ended up gaining approx 10m in distance and my dispersion was much better.

For the 3Wood I went from an average of about 190m over the season to a fitted average of 205m.

I will need to see how these figures hold up over the complete 2017 season.

By the way that is with a driver swing speed of approx 97mph

Being honest, nobody here can really give you great advice other than going to a good fitter to see your specific swing data and go from there.  Take your current equipment and compare the data to the new equipment you are testing.  I was never a Callaway guy but after a fitting session I ended up with one.  You have to go into it with an open mind.  Brand loyalty is great but we all want to play our best golf and you may find a Titleist driver performs and feels better to you.

With the weather getting better in the next few months a lot of Demo Days will be going on.  May want to wait and go to some of them to test different types of clubs.  If you want something soon, again, find a good fitter who has a good variety of brands in their shop and see what works best for you.

First time I went to get fitted it was an eye opening experience.  It is well worth the time and extra money to go through the process.

Good post.

@Dans11, there is really no way for anybody to know how much a fitted driver will help you because we don't know how bad of a fit your current driver is.  I will say, though, that you're not going to gain much of anything from the equipment itself - G25 is a great driver, as is M1 or the Epic.

The only advice I'd give is that I'd keep my mind open to other drivers as well.  No need to lock into an M1 or Epic before your fitting - you might find that you prefer a G or a 917D3, etc.

Either way, have fun and good luck.

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
