Wasn't it Lee Trevino that used to hop onto a golf course by jumping over a fence with some raggidy clubs because his family didn't have a lot of money?

What you need to turn Pro.

I'm not sure for 2. Lee Elder, Jim Thorpe, and Lee Trevino certainly weren't born into money. Trevino served in the marines instead of going directly into golf. For that matter, Palmer's dad had a low-paying job IIRC (club pro didn't pay very well in those days. Not sure about today). As for modern players, did Villegas start out rich? I'm sure that Daly didn't. Tiger was born middle-class, hardly being born into money. I seem to have it in my head that Ken Duke wasn't rolling in it, either.

Golf is hardly the sport of choice in the ghettos of the US. But does the typical tour golfer come "from money" these days?

When I think about the true powers of the PGA I think of Palmer, Nicklaus, and Woods. Jack's Dad owned a pharmacy which could mean a range of things from a financial perspective. My Dad was a pharmacist (never owned his own store however) and not a single one of the many "pharmacy owners" that I knew had children who would qualify as 'coming from money'. But that might be true in Jack's case. Somewhere in his life Charlie Nicklaus obviously joined Scioto CC. But neither Tiger or Arnie could be described as 'coming from money'. dave

Can you name five golfers on the major tours (men's, women's, choice of major tour within) in the past thirty years who have come from money?
