Suffering from a completely new thing for me this season!

In the last few rounds 50% of the time I have driven the ball great. The other 50% of the time I have started hitting the ball directly into the ground in front and causing a long divot. The ball can still go 150 yards at best and 10 yards at worse.

I know I swing pretty quick and my Index fingers and thumbs have worn away skin on the side of them so I think I am also holding the club too tight.

Also with my irons particularly the long ones, I don't seem to take a divot at all and just pick it off the grass. Sometimes this leads to a thin or skuttler but sometimes perfect.

Having watched a video of myself I do get my hands quite far ahead of my body at moment of impact

any ideas how to fix this? As I say pretty new thing for me particularly with the driver.

thanks!

I recently had my swing assessed using a Trackman. I was experiencing the same symptoms as you describe them. My backspin was consistently over 6000 well over the ideal 2800. The conclusion we came  to: I am hitting down on the ball instead of up. Instead of sweeping the clubhead between 0 and +1 degree angle of attack, I'm probabably at -3 degrees (or worse)! Also, I am trying to crush the ball. Try working on relaxing, fluidity, and most importantly, the clubhead must bottom out prior to hitting the ball, not after. Your hands should not be too far ahead when hitting the driver. As far as your long irons go, I read an article where some of the old pros advised to swing the long irons like a fairway wood (sweep across, no divot). Happy golfing!

Reread original post, added info.

I know flipping can cause that to happen if you're over closing the club face. I have a late "flip" of my wrist causing me to turn the club head over some as well. When I do make good contact (good timing of a bad habit) I hit higher shots with less distance. I also have a tendency to hit thin a lot out of the bottom 3 grooves. Could be a combo of the 2 issues between swinging down and flipping at impact. Just my $0.02 though haha I'm no pro to get solid advice from

    • Day 211 (29 Nov 24) - Friday men’s round albeit a solo foursome (temps in the 40’s, day after Thanksgiving and the average age closer to 75 - I’m a youngster at 65).  Interesting day of semi-solid play (8 of 18 GIR). Hit all four par threes in one (a first) - parred each; still had a couple 3 putt bogies; and blew up on 3 of the par 5’s (go figure)). The blow ups were some serious tree rattlers - amplifying how I got stupid and greedy instead of smart and content to just get back in the short stuff.
    • Day 60 - 2024-11-29 Got about 3.5' of snow today, so I was going to go to Golf Evolution, but… I only left the house to throw some snow. Instead, i checked out my putting stroke on HackMotion in the basement. Turns out… it's pretty good, and I'm very in touch with what I'm doing.

After 4 worlds I run out of worlds that have the letters I've already found that can be combined with the remaining letters.. just repeated the 4th world to knew the answer. I know the world but it never came to my mind.
