Big time regression. I had started kind of feeling like my hips are dipping a bit to start the downswing since it felt like it helped my tempo a bit.  Silly thing is I was hitting the ball pretty well, but I COULD go left if I got quick at the top. Feeling a dip with my hips kind of kicked off the transition and felt like it helped everything move together well.  I started hitting a slight cut which was more than welcome after all my time with a low-left miss, so I ran with it.  I was hitting the ball well for a while, then it started to go downhill...

Slight cut with all clubs was predictable with good results.  That turned into a 20 yard fade off the tee, 10 yard fade with irons.  Manageable.  Yesterday was an uncontrollable push fade.  Got myself into a lot of trouble. Even the ones that started out on line went way too far right.  Not sure if the 'dip' has anything to do with it.  I know it doesn't help that my hands aren't as deep in the newer video.  May have to take a couple steps back here

I've been focusing on a flat left wrist lately. I've gotten it into a better position at the top, and am working on keeping it flat through impact.  I've made some progress but it looks like there still might be some cupping before impact leaving the face a bit open.

Unfortunately had to cancel my Evolvr account, at least for the time being.  I'm going to be moving and won't have the time to keep up with lessons for a while.  It's been a big help and since the last thing I was working on was my left wrist, I went ahead and got the hanger to continue this focus.  At least if I can get in a few swings it provides feedback, and I can use it if I go to the range.

Currently I've moved to an apartment from the house I was renting before I make my permanent move.  This has left me with little space.  While I do miss my hitting net, there may be a blessing in disguise.  I've got enough space in the living room to swing a 3/4 9i with a cut off follow through.  Since I was working on flattening my left wrist through the downswing, this (lack of) space has let me focus on that.  I can get to the point in the follow through JUST after when my wrist should start folding, so it kind of serves as a checkpoint to what my left is doing.  I haven't had the chance to play or go to the range in the past few weeks, so results are TBD.

Been a while since I updated this. Between moving and work I haven’t played much golf but things are settling down a bit. Still hitting a fade but I’ve gotten better about keeping a flat wrist through impact. The ball sometimes goes further right than I want and I wonder if my arms are going left too quickly.

I was struggling a bit early on this morning, DTL video is a miss to the right.

Kept the right elbow a little closer to my body later on in the morning and the face on shots were more solid and straighter.

Your chest is still a bit too closed at impact leading to having to bend the left arm a bit to help shallow the club and get it out of the ground.

You're on evolvr, though, yes? You'll get to that part in due time.

I actually am not on it anymore. we ended up buying a house and I wasn’t going to be able to keep up with it. Plus it’s tightened the budget for a little while.  And recently with work projects ramping up and everyone and their brother getting married, this is my first weekend at home in over a month and a half.  Just hasn’t been the right time recently for lessons.

Thanks for the input though, I don’t know what you mean by my chest being closed at impact, could you explain?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like my chest should be facing more towards the target?

Yes, PGA Tour average is about 20-25° open to the target at impact. Hips are 40° or so.

If you do "long arms" that drill can do double-duty for you.

Just don't exit as low/left as I did. 😄

I've tried to work on turning my right shoulder more through impact as was recommended, but mainly just with mirror work and hitting some wiffle balls in the attic.  Haven't had the chance to hit real balls till this Saturday.  No video since I was in a bit of a rush and forgot my little tripod but I wish I had documented the shank clinic I put on.  My miss is towards the toe so to hit probably 20 of them was just comical.  Not sure if trying to open up my chest more is pushing the club (and hosel) towards the ball more, some decent strikes were a touch heel side.  Might have to set the hitting net back up and take some video.

Continued the focus on keeping my left wrist flat and ballflights were much straighter.  My miss today was actually either a pull or a hook, especially with the longer clubs.  It was kind of weird considering my miss has been right.  Bittersweet though because I was striking my irons well but my driver was crap.  I was kind of spraying it and even a few that felt like I middled flew low, left and kind of died.  I was almost hitting my 5W further…

My chest still looks more closed at impact per the previous observations but my left arm looks a bit straighter than in the last video I posted.  I recently set my hitting net back up (I’ve basically claimed the attic as my territory) so I’m going to focus on slow-motion swings driving my right shoulder through.

It’s been a long time since I looked at strike location since I’ve worked on the full swing. Put dots on a few balls with a dry erase marker and hit some balls into the net. I was really surprised to see that strikes that felt great were actually closer to the heel. And it seems that lately I’m hitting towards the heel more than expected. Below is a group of 6-7.

    • Hit my tee shot just into the penalty area and barely found it. Swung hard just in case I hit it. It was slightly downhill with a heavy tailwind. I don't actually hit my 9i 170 yards.
    • Right. The difference between being 120 out and 70 out for me (this is the important part) is negligible and not worth putting other risks into play off the tee.   Ok the argument against driver is that my shot cone is comically large. It puts every possible outcome into play. You can't see the green from the tee so there's a good chance I'd have to wait for it to clear which would slow down play. That's the third tee right in the middle of the firing range there. I really don't want to wait just to hit a terrible shot and I especially don't want to injure somebody. Yea I have no problem playing out of the rough short of the bunker if I'm just going to lay up short of the bunker, but I absolutely need to avoid flaring it right into the penalty area if I'm going to be laying up in the first place. As a general strategy I understand where you're coming from. But since we're specifically talking about me (this is a shot I'm going to have to hit on Saturday), I think the cost is fairly marginal. I hit the ball 8' closer on average from 50-100 than I do from 100-150 from the fairway and rough and the green success % difference is 4%. Bunker might as well be a penalty drop. Based on the data,  Here's my SG:A data compared to a 10: I honestly don't know how to use SG for decision making. That's why I was mostly looking at proximity to hole and green success rate for comparison. I mostly use SG as a way to track my progress. All good. Like I said, I appreciate the discussion. It makes me think. If I didn't want to see alternative/opposing viewpoints to my own I just wouldn't post anything. You should post it! In your own swing thread, of course. It's been a fun exercise.
    • Played my first 2024 round at Pierce Lake. Boomed my first drive down #10 fairway, then slowly slipped into mediocrity. 83 (69.6/131). The high point was going 2 of 4 on sand saves. My sand game is pretty marginal but today I must have discovered the secret for a couple hours.
