So here in New England we just a had a few days in the 60's. My home course is still playing winter rules, rolling it tree line to tree line. The grass is not growing so the fairways are a bit tough. As a rule we don't start posting scores till 4/1. I just shot a +7 round as a 12 handicap, that is being posted. I think rolling it is worth at least 3 shots for my skill set, even more for a better golfer. Should It be all or nothing? If you roll the ball its a practice round and you don't post, you only post if your playing it down? I know the purists are going to say always play it down, but if the course is allowing it to be rolled your at a disadvantage if you don't.

I suppose if you want to punish yourself you can play it as it lies. But a local rule is still a rule. I would just post like you normally would, rolling or not. We post tournament rounds under lift clean and place, so i dont see how its any different.

Courses around here play "winter rules" until mid-June. Lift, clean and place within a foot of where the ball landed. Yeah, those are the local rules. Except at the private courses where the maintenance is better and they go to summer rules in May. Handicaps can drop a little artificially, but in reality they self-correct later in the year.

Just remember if you play a solo round you can't post it anyway.
