Thought I'd post this hear in case somebody in our region might be interested. Yesterday I took my son out to a 9-hole near Woodland, CA called "Wild Wings". I was really impressed with the course. It had good length, was pretty open - links style. The condition of the course was really, really good. There's a lot to mow at this place. The staff was nice and helpful. The architecture of the course was good. They had something i hadn't seen before (maybe it's common now). They had two pin placements on each green - one for your first 9, one for your second. The greens, in general, are fairly big and in excellent shape. I read a plaque on a bench on #9 that the community came together to "save the course" which had me wondering...Why would such a nice course need saving? And, the course was built just in 2005, I think. It is a little remote. Woodland is an old agriculture community - not a golf mecca by any stretch. For us it was about an hour drive (from a town where we're surrounded by a lot of local golf) but it was worth the drive, certainly - and very affordable green fees.

Custom fit RBZ irons. Taylormade RBZ driver. Some crappy old high-bounce Macgregor wedge and an even older Mizuno 5 wood. Haven't settled on a ball yet - still looking. Decades of football, weightlifting and boxing came together to create the world's worst golfer. I'm slowly correcting that now.

Good to know.   Wild Wings was part of a housing development.  The developers allowed it to go into bankruptcy.  That's why the locals had to save it.  My son played it in a high school match, but I never have.  I've played the country club next door, though (Yolo Fliers GC).

Northwood is a gem!  Alister MacKenzie designed!
