I am demoing a Fourteen Golf HI877.  It is pretty unusual and not at every proshop so I thought I would share the experience.

Link to the website. HI877

I know the color is out there but I am looking to make the top of my bag more friendly.  Right now I am playing Callaway Apex CF16 to 3 iron.  I was never a fan of hybrids, I tend to hit up on the ball and I also tend to hook hybrids.  I also don't like the feel of them.  The hybrid I have liked the most is the Adam DHY.  It looks like a bubble back club not a typical hybrid.  In my case I think swing flaws cause me to gravitate away from typical hybrids.

So I was sharing this with my fitter looking at the new utility irons and he said he really liked how the HI877 performed.  He gave me one to demo.  I am lucky enough to have a Foresight GC2 and HMT I can use.  I have the 24 degree 877 and the numbers I was getting after a quick session gave me 5 iron distances.  Which for me carries 175-180 so if I was to add them to the bag I might have to use the 21 degree to replace the 4 iron and 18 to replace the 3 iron.  I like my 5 iron, it is one of my favorite clubs.  I was able to take it out on the course and use it a little.  I really like the feel of it.  It feels like an iron which is what I like.  I did hit a green that was significantly above me from 180 so that was a good sign and I layed up on a par 5 and hit it 220 from a fluffy rough lie (good lie)  which was confusing so the jury is out on what distances I can expect but I really like the feel.

If I like it I may get the 18 and 21.  I can also send the fitter my numbers from the launch monitor so he can make adjustments.

Standing over the ball the yellow does not bother me but I don't know that I want to be carrying that club around, I already think of it as the banana.  I may bead blast the yellow off and paint it or leave it bare we will see.  I'll report back as I get more information.  I am playing Forest Dunes this weekend so I will use it more.  Last night was league and I was a little hesitant to pull an unknown club.

I guess it looks pretty funky.  Thick topline and yellow bulge.

To me I really do not care if it performs I am in.  I can get used to anything.  Hit a lot of good shots with it and it inspires confidence.  Hit a lot of bad shots and it joins the others in the garage!i-wchZs2k-XL.jpg

I can adjust to a lot of things… but I'm not so sure about that. Wow, that's bright.

Yea, brother I hear ya.  Like I said, if I buy a couple I will need to blast that off and repaint.  I hope they give me what I need.  Beyond 180 it usually makes sense to lay up.

I remember the content.   I know my misses and their pattern.  With a long iron my miss can be well offline.   The courses I play are very unforgiving.  Usually there is a penalty situation in play.  At the very least tall heather which can lead to a punch out or a lost ball.  If it is open I will take the long shot.  My scoring improves when I take the big number out of play.  I usually have a bunch of one putts.  It is not because I am hitting 15 footers it is because I layed up, hit it close and knocked it in.

I had a good example last night.  Long par 4 into the wind.  Red stakes right and behind the green.  Bunker/mound/heather between me and the pin.  If I come up short in that it could add a stroke or more.  I have 200 in probably playing 210-215.  The blue circle is the tee, the red dot is my drive, the red line is red stake/unplayable.  The black circle is the heather/trap.  I hit a short iron short of the trap/heather in the middle of the throat, 60 degree to the back level (the green is tiered), one putt par.  Pulling a three iron would not have gone well.  Because of the drive and the wind I would have been happy with a 5.  If my long irons become straighter I would take the chance.

@inthecup any final thoughts regarding the Fourteen HI877?  I am interested in this club or one similar instead of a Hybrid.  Thanks

Sorry that was long ago.  I ended up keeping my Apex Hybrids.  That thing is Fugly, not sure if they changed the color.

I looked at it today on Fourteen's website.  Still nice and bright yellow.  Reminds me of the old Schwinn 5 Speed Lemon Peeler.
