I recently started pushing my mid irons and hybrids right. I could lose several balls a round, sometimes several on one hole. I eventually found a fix - placing the ball further forward in my stance, about where some people might place it for driver. I'm getting by with this, but I'd like to know if I'm doing something wrong. It seems to me when the ball is further forward I tend to make my whole swing with my weight on my left foot - not sure if that anything to do with it. Thanks in advance.

I started doing this a month ago also, with the same clubs as you (6,5, and hybrids). I was striking the ball really well this year up until this little problem crept up. I think the root cause (at least for me) is 1. rushing the backswing, 2., truncating the backswing, and 3. not getting my weight to the left side (getting "stuck" on the rearmost foot).

I'm going to the range today and I plan to work on it.

Thanks for your input.

I might have the same problem as you. Keep me posted on your findings from the range.

I played this evening and lost 2 balls on one hole because of it. Even placing the ball forward in my stance made little difference.

At one point I thought it might be something to do with keeping my hands and club in front (out from) my body, but I don't know. Might be time for another lesson...

Bit late replying to this, but in case anyone stumbles across this in the future, the reason I was pushing my irons right, and also topping, was because my head was moving forward (left - I'm right handed) through impact. It took my teacher about 3 seconds to diagnose. While I was pushing my shoulder forward, my head was following. The cure is to look at the ball through my left eye, so my head stays back. As a bonus, when I keep my head back, but push my shoulder through, I release my hands better and get more club head speed.

    • 39-35 today for a +2 (74) on a 72.6/129. Struggled over the first few holes as I bogeyed five straight to start. Wasn't even striking the ball bad - just couldn't hit a green and didn't hit good chips + one penalty. Then I went -3 over the next 6 to save the round and then parred the last 7. Golf is fun.
    • The Holdovers. Birdie. I’m a big Paul Giamatti fan and felt this was an exceptional performance. The film has a great blend of comedy and heart felt drama.
    • I rewatched this last night on HBO Max, and I re-affirm this. I loved Dune Par 1. It finally brought Dune to the big screen in the best way possible. Dune Part 2 is so much better, which is impressive. I like the direction they went with the characters in the story compared to the books. It was brought up to date in a good way. Yea, I am glad to see that they are working on Dune Part 3.
    • I love Louisville Golf's Niblicks, which they made for me decades ago and I began using again, though I now replaced the shafts for whippier ones (see my recent post). Unlike your photo, mine had steel bottoms. Forget about eBay, Louisville still makes them. They work much better for me than the modern metal woods.
    • Went to the range today at Scottish Highlands in Salem NH. Worked on getting my chest turning away and then through the ball. Worked out well as shots had a little more distance and more consistent flights. Gained 20 yards with the few drivers I hit. They have a pretty good short game practice area so I spent a good half hour hitting chips and pitches.  After the range I went to the gym for a back workout. Went well and I'm excited to move forward with this new workout program.
