After a couple of seasons of shaky pitch shots inside 20 yards, I've started using the hinge-and-hold method. Was really inconsistent using other methods.

Came upon H&H videos by Hank Haney and Phil M, and then reviewed a short-game video which @iacas made many moons ago.

Currently I only use it H&H for short pitch shots; for greenside chips I use a modified putting stroke which gives me fairly consistent rollout.

I've used H&H shots around the green - with 48*, 54* and 60* wedges - and a couple of times to punch out of stringy rough.

Now, I want to know: can the hinge-and-hold be the basis of the entire partial wedge game, or just for close-in shots around the green? Can it be used for blast shots out of the sand?

Let me know how much you all use it, and any warnings you have.

Focus, connect and follow through!

I don't call the H&H a pitch shot. It's almost a pure chip. The "hold" keeps the leading edge engaged.

I can H&H a wedge 110, 115? Almost a full distance (but a bit lower).

Yeah, I'll use it up to about 90 yards.  Gives a low, high spin shot.

I've never used it from the sand though.  Just doesn't strike me as appropriate there...
