So, I finally broke down and got a set of decent used clubs. The woods are in great shape (Callaway FT3, BB 3 and 5), but the irons (BB 2006 3-PW) are pretty scuffed on the soles. I see on eBay that there are quite a few people selling "polished" sets. Looks like they do a pretty good job. I think that I could do this a well. I just need to know what kind of stuff I need to get to polish my irons. Thoughts or suggestions? Thanks for any help that you folks can give me!

How scuffed are they? Did you do a traditional cleaning and they were still in that condition?

I'm interested in responses here too. I have a new set of X18 irons and with the shiny finish they are already showing some 'wear' after only a few rounds. Cleaning them helps significantly but I can already tell that I will be wanting to get the new shine back later in the year.

Golfworks sells Simichrome polishing compound. They recommend using a cloth wheel on a power drill to to the work. I clamp my drill in a vise, lock it in the ON position and move the club around. It works.

They are clean, it's just that the soles are scuffed up. The previous owner must have been living in a pretty dry area. I take a pic or two later today and post them up.

I would think any chrome polish would be fine for polishing the soles. And using a drill and buffing wheel like Mike said should make it quick and easy.

Well, here's a sample. 3-PW are pretty much the same......

That should polish up just fine. I didn't see any holes in the chrome.

I think that's right. I recommended Simichrome because it has a fine grit. It will also remove bluing/heat-discoloration.

    • Day 19 - 2026-01-08 10 minutes of net work. Feeling very good about changes but need to film soon. Next few days will be indoor mirror work as we head into the mountains.
    • Day 6: 2026.01.09 Some swing work in the mirror. Need to work on home setup to be able to get more out of evenings where I can't make it to the range.
    • I would like to amend my original comment on the new Maxfli irons. Yes, $800 for forged irons is a pretty good price and they do feel good BUT...I have since found out that $800 is only for off the shelf, standard issue clubs with standard lengths, lofts, lies and shafts. Any change made from stock results in huge up-charges so that the final price ends up pretty much the same as similar forged irons from any of the major manufacturers.
    • These were almost all included on the list of Clarifications or revised Model Local Rules released just a few days ago.  I'm pretty sure the first 3 are brand new MLRs (Moved/Wrong Place, Embedded Ball in someone else's pitch mark, Internal OB applies only to tee shot) that the PGA Tour is choosing to use.  The 16.1 Rule (relief near a Putting Green) was revised allowed a Committee to give relief for more than just Immoveable Obstructions, microphone holes would be classed as GUR (a hole made by the maintenance staff).  The replacement club rule was available before, the E-3 (Lift Clean and Place distance) could have been defined as "one scorecard" before, they're just a change in how the PGA choices. Here are the January 1 Clarifications and revised MLRs https://www.usga.org/content/usga/home-page/rules-hub/clarifications-of-the-rules-of-golf.html#cp
