  1. 1. How far do you hit your 7 iron

    • less than 130 yards - but hey it goes straight!
      4
    • 130-140 - enough!
      21
    • 140 to 150 - pretty average
      52
    • 150-160 - I love to see that "barber pole"
      57
    • 160-170 - big swinger
      58
    • 170-180 - really big swinger
      31
    • 180 yard plus - hey it is the internet I also hit my drives 350

SW = I only use it for sand and flops.

These are pretty honest I think if I make "average good" contact but not spectacular. It seems like on the woods and hybrids I can occasionally get it out there about 10-15% more than I've quoted here but the irons are pretty consistent, when I hit them better they just go higher and stop at about the same place as a "decent" hit.

Obviously with my handicap, I'm not as consistent as I would like to be but these numbers would be reflective on average, for distance. Direction would be another issue altogether.

Generally, I have a hard time choosing 8/9 or 7/8 on some shots because my 8I has a comfortable range of 145 to 160.

I too, stopped de-lofting (pronate) the golf club for more distance. Now i come through nice and high, and i love my ball flight. I lost a little distance but i gained tons more controll. I dont really use my 3 or 4 iron very much. I can hit it pretty far off the tee, and i usually only feel comfortable going at a par 5 in 2 if i am either a nice 5 wood (250-270),or 5 iron(190-215) away. If i am not either of those distances i usually lay up to 100 yds. I guess i havnt really thought about it before, but i think that might be a bad thing actually What do you guys think????

B_Diddy, you hit your 5w 270 yards??? I'm not doubting this, but if that's accurate, you're a beast!

Totally true on my part. I have done long drive Q's in the past. Plus i am a bigger guy so i think that helps out alittle bit too. Never listen to the people who say you can't build big muscle and you will lose your golf swing. I power lift and hit the ball as far if not further than i did 20 years ago. Lift weight the right way hit the ball a far far way. Thats why you see those pro-ams with football players and they drive the ball 300 plus no problem.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
