Neither do they.

So true! I read a quote by a Tour pro many years ago. He said you can tell a really good player by their iron flight. They will hit their low numbered irons high, and their high numbered irons low!

This reminds me of a story that Jack Nicklaus told about playing in the Ohio State Amateur back in the day. Play for the day had been rained out, but it let up in the afternoon. Nicklaus decided to go out and get 9 in. On his way to the clubhouse he walked by the practice range and saw a single golfer out there. He was, in Nicklaus' words, "hitting short irons about quail high, and just blistering them!"

For those of you who have never hunted quail, that means they took off really, really low!

Nicklaus got back to the clubhouse and asked the attendant who the guy on the range was. He said, "That's your defending champion, Arnie Palmer out of Latrobe, PA.!" Nicklaus replied, "Man! That guy sure is strong!"
