Day 591, June 16, 2024

Worked for almost four hours doing some modifications to Golf Evolution (some insulation for a foam door and blacking out the remaining windows next to my teaching area), then hit balls for 45 minutes. Started off stiff, predictably, but five minutes in was humming. Same stuff as the last two days.

Day 8:  Hit a couple of buckets at the range, focused on increasing speed while maintaining form.

I may not hit the ball far, but at least I find all of the pretty flowers.

day 94. Realized I’m getting a little too handsy. Worked on getting the club into good places and much shorter, slower swings to learn the movement.

Day 45 (16 Jun 24) -  Happy Father's Day all - got in a few swings with the clubs, focused on alignment for chipping and pitching.  For me if the target it 12noon, I need to have my feet somewhere around 11 for a solid dead on line pitch/chip.  Worked from about 5yds out to 25yds.  Worked through a series of clubs - 54, PW, 8i and 6i - noting flight patterns of each.

Day 46 (17 Jun 24) - Walked the front nine at Minnesott today, with trimmed down back (8 clubs: D, 3w, 4h, 6i, 8i, PW, 54* and Putter).  Knew it would be a challenge to "plan" approaches that the shorter clubs would cover.  Did okay - of the six pars made four were up and downs.  The 54* wedge had a solid day of hitting those infamous short pitches/chips I post about.  Most were within kick-in distance  a couple were in the 8' range.  Overall a 39 scored with three bogies and 0 doubles.  Love the challenge this brings - and to be honest - a lot less stressed as there are fewer options on the table (or in this case "in the bag").

Day 592, June 17, 2024

Played 18 holes pausing near the top of the backswing (may not have actually looked like a pause if you were watching me). Hit a 6I about 195 (flew the entire green) and a few other shots long, but… overall, pretty happy. Occasionally was lazy with the arms.

Day 47 (18 Jun 24) - Back to setup and easy chip swings with the PW today.  Focused on the foot position (even purposely setup too closed and too open to reinforce the most accurate position).  Also kept the balls scattered in varying depths of grass to better simulate potential on-course scenarios.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
