Mixed tee stableford

New member here. Hopefully this question is in the right section.

My club runs mixed tee stableford competitions, the par for the course is 70. The ccs’s for men are red - 67, yellow - 68, and white -70. 

As a 17 handicapper, am I correct in thinking I would gain an additional 3 shots when playing from the whites, and therefore a gross double bogey on SI 1 & 2 would yield me 2 stableford points? 

How would this affect handicap changes also playing off either of the three tee’s?

1) Am I right in assuming you are from the UK (ie under CONGU). If so .

2) The measures you are referring to are: 

     a) The SSS ie Standard Scratch Score, which is fixed and is effectively the Course Rating

     b) The CSS ie Competition Scratch Score, which varies with the collective scores of the whole field in that competition

3) Your handicap is not affected by the differences in SSS. You always play with the same handicap regardless of the tees.

4) When the competition closes, the CSS is calculated (you don't want to know how). It may vary from the SSS depending on weather and course conditions. This is a measure of the difficulty on the day.

5) Your net score, after adjusting any hole over net double bogey down to net double bogey, is matched against the CSS. This is called the Net Differential. Your handicap is then adjusted up or down, using a formula, according to how well or badly you performed.

Thank you Rulesman, yes that is correct I'm in the UK. 

OK so if my handicap wouldn't be affected, why wouldn't a play off the red tee's in a mixed tee stableford as it would clearly be an advantage? Why would someone play from the white's?

Sorry, there is an adjustment to make to your playing handicap but the committee should specify the exact adjustment depending on the type of play. Singles, 4BBB.

BUT this applies for competition 'prizes' purposes only, it is not used for resultant handicap calculation purposes.

The CSS calculation takes care of the differing SSSs of the tees actually played .

The committee would normally require you to indicate which tees you have played from or direct you to use particular tees.

If you have access to the CONGU manual it is 'explained' in appendix O.

That is very helpful thank you. 

Having read appendix “O” it looks like a mark my playing handicap as per usual, and then also note the competition handicap, which would be my playing handicap plus 3 in this example.
