Getting older and back hurts when using shorter irons. My irons used are 5 - 9. I have a set of used irons. No heads on them. I want to increase the length of my irons so I can stand more erect. Question: can the 5 iron head be placed on the 3 iron shaft, 6 iron head on the 4 iron shat, and so on to the 9 iron? Iron shafts will be increased by an inch. Is this possible? Thanks in advance.

Sure you can do it. This is what you would call "soft stepped twice". If your shafts are Regular Flex they will play almost one flex softer, closer to a Senior flex. Your swingweight will be higher though, and the clubs will feel a bit heavier.

“Soft stepped twice” - I stand corrected. Thanks. I am determined to soft step. Thanks again!

If you put a heavier grip on, or a grip with a counterweight like a Secret Grip the swingweight would balance back out.
