i read somewhere that Torrey pines doesn't take tee times before 7:30 AM and early tee times are just reserved for walk-ups. Anyone know how early you need to get there to have a realistic shot at getting on the course?

You need to call M&M; Tee Times, you pay them a premium for an awesome time.

Sux to pay the premium but I played cause of them one year the Monday after the Buick and the course was brutally hard. LOst a ton of balls that just trickled in the rough, they just disappear.

Wow, San Diego residents have it good. $43 on the weekend for the north course and $49 for the south. It's hard to play for that cheap here in Austin at the decent courses...

on your long drive down from WA, you could play Chambers Bay, detour west a few hours to hit up the Bandon courses, hop onto Harding in SF, Pasatiempo in Santa Cruz, and finish off at Torrey. Unfortunately if you make that dream trip Torrey may be the least amazing.

granted i'm sure i'm forgetting a few decent public tracks along the way but that ain't a bad 10 days of golf there...that IS what you had in mind, right SG? hehe

I believe it's before 9AM. Tee times from sunrise to 9AM are reserved for San Diego resident walk ons.

I found the Torrey Pines experience dissapointing. Muni golf conditions and amenities for a premium golf price. But the views are outstanding, if you get a sunny day. I played half my round in the fog.

Chambers Bay is a gem. Play Bayonet in the Monterey area, 1/4 the price of Pebble and easier to get a time.

    • Day 51 (yesterday was 50, not 59 -- that was a typo).  I didn't have a ton of time today.  I hit a dozen balls with a 6-iron in my practice room.   Amazingly, after this I did the ShotScope analysis of yesterday's round;  my approach play was at the 5 hcp level.  That's pretty darn good, but unfortunately for my score, some of that came from hitting a few good recovery shots.  But I also hit some really good approach shots that weren't from trouble!

    • Shot a 37 today! Palmer Course, PGA National. Really fun. 6/9 GIR, no lost balls. The double and the bogey were both three putts from like 35 feet or so.  The birdie at the last was really fun. I stood over that fifteen footer and thought wow I’m really about to make this, aren’t I? And I hearted it. Really fun. It’s like 9000 degrees outside but I battled through it well. Good times.
    • I had been in a bit of a slump for the month of June. Handicap index has slowly risen, and there were few sub-80 scores. Today was a different story at Leslie Park GC. Lots of solid shots, GIR's, up & downs, for a 77 (7.8 differential). As with most rounds, there were a few loose shots and crappy putts, but it was a good day.
