somewhere near Charlotte... we have some family in Concord, but we don't know exactly where we will settle. My wife will be working a little west of uptown... she's actually moving this week, but I'm not coming down for good until May.

I was originally from Pennsylvania and now live in the Winston-Salem area. I relocated my brother as well and he's now in Mooresville (just north of Charlotte.) You'll love the area. It can get a bit hot in the summer but the other three seasons are absolutely wonderful.

I don't know Charlotte that well golf-wise, but my neck of the state is filled with good golf courses at a decent value. I've only heard that Charlotte is a bit more expensive. Good luck with the move...and let me be the first to welcome you to your new state.
