I've been having a lot of trouble with my fast hip since I started learning golf last spring. My hip was so fast that it got too much forward of my upper body resulted in leaving my club face (even wedges) wide open at impact.

Anyways fast foward to now. I've been working with a pro and slowed down my hip to have a controlled fade with my irons. (Driver/3W still have those banana balls 70% of the time.) My pro suggest that I put a beach ball between my knees to keep my hip turning too fast.

Last time I went to the range, I hit some irons and moved on to 3W. I was like "ok let's bring out the beach ball." And WOW I started to hit my 3W straight. Then I switched to my driver, and damn those bananas were gone. My worst shots were 10 yard push or pull. As soon as I took the beach ball off. Slices were back.

I realized my lower body is my only weakness to better ball striking, but I can't have a beach ball between my knees when I play on the course (Maybe I can ). What can I do to increase the stability of my lower body?

Slow down. Think about starting the downswing with your shoulders, which will help you get around on the ball and eliminate some slicing.

Keep that killing instinct down. The key is synchronization, my friend.

By the way, I had this problem once but I got over it. What shafts are on your irons? What's your driver swing speed?

when my body is in sync, i can make the ball go (direction-wise) where i aim with 8i and below.

when my body isn't, it's a nightmare. project x 5.0 flighted in my irons driver ss is about 90 to 95

I am slowly figuring out that the slower I try to swing... the faster I actually swing...

I've found that speeding up certain parts of your body isn't always the cure... sometimes you have to slow down others...

So on that train of thought, I can absolutely see where the advice is coming from.

I'm not sure how to tell you to stabilize your legs... my lower-body action has become a result of lining-up with my swing.

Perhaps try to keep your legs slightly closer apart than normal... that tends to help me slow down my leg movements...

It sounds counter-intuitive, but the closer your legs are, the less room for movement the have. Perhaps you gripping the beach ball with your hips is causing you to narrow your stance a little?

Just a thought...

It is really hard to give advise without seeing you setup (

PGA ... P osture G rip and A lignment) along with your swing. There are many things that can be aiding in slicing...the fact that the beach ball helped is not necessarially related to an unstable lower body (it could be?). But it could be that somehow when you put the beach ball between your legs you might have aligned your shoulders more square with the target as you were forced to hold the ball at address...it is hard to say??? Anyway not knowing what you and your Pro have worked on I would have to see your swing and set up but my experince with slicing has always been either alignment (shoulders aimed left at address) or swinging over the top (which could be caused by aiming to far right at address with lower body)...try checking your total body aligment at address and see if that helps...good luck as slicing without wanting to is not much fun...

Mate I know quite a bit about this particular area of the swing, as I have been struggling with it for 2 years (since I started competitive golf) so if you want any help please feel free to PM me, I feel that swing wise this is my little area of expertise lol

i have had this problem as i have very flexible hips and i tend to over rotate them. First try to slow your swing down. Have the feeling that it is the same pace all the way through. You dont have to swing it fast for the ball to go a long way. Secondly use the beach ball but have the feeling that the upper body starts the down swing and your moving forwards. This along with the beach ball and perhaps, a chair just outside your left hip (if right handed) should do the trick.
I hope this helps if any more problems just PM me

Project X, I see. The reason I asked about your shafts is because heavier shafts (from NS Pro 950GH to TT TC) have helped me maintaining my swing tempo. That means I don't overdo my lower body part too much. The problem I had was my hips (lower body) cleared way too early than the upper body thus leaving the club face open with the impression of trying to cut the ball, literally.

Anyway, just like i-Guy has said that there are many causes for slicing. Reading about the beach ball gave me the input that you might have had the similar problem like I once had. I'm sure your teaching pro could tell you more.

thanks for all the feedbacks
do you all step hard into the ground with inside of yourfeet when you swing?
back foot on the back swing and leading foot on the down swing...

this is another thing my pro wants me to work on. maintaining my knee flex.
it's really hard.
