hey so im going to houston, tx for a job interview and ill be done on friday at noon. they couldn't get me a flight back home until saturday at 1pm so i basically have 24 hours of time to do whatever. right now im in kentucky where its currently freezing raining and the temperature is below freezing. houston is supposed to be near 70 so i definitely want to take advantage of that. but i don't want to bring my clubs mainly because i don't have a travel bag and don't really want to go through the hassle of lugging them along.

is there any way to rent clubs or something to play a round or even just go to a driving range? i want to hit balls so badly and also kill some time while im in a city knowing no one with nothing really to do. could i maybe ask to demo some clubs and hit a bunch of balls with them or would they even let me take them on a course?

thanks.

A lot of publice courses have clubs that you can rent, although they are pretty beat up, as for a driving range they might have clubs that were left behind that they will let you hit as well, but its up to their discretion.

I haven't been at this game very long, but my impression is that most courses have rental clubs available - although I perfer the 'hassle' of lugging my own clubs

What's in my bag:
Cleveland Hibore XLS Monster Driver
TourEdge Exotics 2,3,4 hybrid irons
Tommy Armour 845cs Silverbacks 5-PW
Assorted wedges, Ping Scottsdale Anser

There are places now that specialize in shipping your clubs back and forth.

Nothing in the swing is done at the expense of balance.

Do you have any cartons in which clubs were shipped to you?

If you do, put three clubs in one and check it at the gate.

Maybe this would appeal to you. Go to a thrift store and get a club or clubs that look interesting enough to try out the feel, etc... perhaps old wood or graphite. With those club(s) at a practice range:

-Swing the club hard like you don't care about breaking it. Get perfect contact one time with that power. See how far it goes.

-Try odd choices of clubs out of sand.

-Drop about fifteen balls in a long line, each one about six inches apart. Try to hit them all pretty well in a 30 second, 15 ball burst. Multiple balls will be in the air at once.

-Tee the ball VERY high and try to make that work. Maybe you will like that. Maybe not. Forged one, two, and three irons work well with me and long tees.

-Find a ball with a broken cover and hit it with a high-spin club. The sound makes backspin rates obvious.

Then, after you are through, donate the clubs to goodwill and never see the people that saw you do these things ever again.

Great advice. I'm taking my practice routine on the road.

I think the 15 ball drill would look like this. -Anonymously posted

We rented clubs at Pinehurst and they actually turned out to be titleists with a Scotty Cameron putter

At Pinehurst's rates they should let you keep the putter.

The better courses rent better clubs. Take your golf shoes, glove, tees and some balls. You should be good to go. check courses near your hotel and call about rental clubs. print out driving directions from the hotel and play some golf.

    • There is 100%, incontrovertible, undisputed evidence and proof that he wasn’t winning majors from 2015 - 2024. Even though I concede that my take is laughable, I don’t think it’s laughable to say that Rory’s major drought during that period is one of the most extreme droughts in modern golf history.  Extreme meaning, with his innate and physical talent (AND his major record pre-2015), he could’ve should’ve won multiple majors during that period. If you agree with that, then the question is why?  What was preventing him from closing the deal on majors?
    • You have no proof that Rory's perceived "jackedness" was hindering him from hitting the crucial shots under pressure at the majors. I don't think his jackedness caused Rory to miss a combined like 7 feet of putts over the last 2 holes at the 2024 US Open.
    • Not a problem chetlover, as I look back - even thought I truly believed in the take - it looks laughable.  IF - Rory had done some of the things I mentioned and lost, I’m sure I would have trumpeted how prescient I was.  But now, perhaps my take can be considered for a Wall of Shame. Colin M - - haha, he’s jacked for sure - jacked on Big Macs. Brooks and Bryson;  Brooks buffness looks pretty natural?  And Bryson - definitely on the bizarre end of the spectrum.  But for both Brooks and Bryson, they were winning majors.  Whatever jackness they had-have, natural or extreme, was not hindering them from hitting the crucial shots under pressure, at the majors.
    • Did Rory ever explain the horrible pitch on 13? Was it a miss hit?
    • ^^^ I think this year gave us something incredibly exciting, but also special. That list of career grand slam winner is something else. Well, except for Gary Player.
