Hybrid iron vs Rescue club?
colnago1331 replied to strohman's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
This is certainly the case for me. I primarily use my 4 wood as a mini driver on holes where a driver will put me in trouble. The 4H, meanwhile, is a great fairway club (and rough club). Of course, YMMV. -
How Many Hybrids Do You Carry?
colnago1331 replied to mtnbiker5's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I'm pretty close to MBG. I go driver - 4 wood - 4 hybrid - 4 iron. -
Mizuno JPX-825 and JPX-825 Pro
colnago1331 replied to rockinrebel's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
To my knowledge there's no such thing as the JPX 825 Forged. The 825 Pros are forged, but they're just known as the 825 Pros (as opposed to the EZ Forged; no idea why Mizuno went that way with the EZs). -
Changed bags . . . again. . . .

What to buy? Ping purple dot or orange dot?
colnago1331 replied to rickwinger's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
While the online fitting chart is a great starting point it's by no means a substitute for a dynamic fitting. At the very least you'll want to go to a store and hit balls off of a lie board with lie tape on the sole of the iron. And you can do that for free. Sure, it'll take a little bit of time, but it will be well worth it. Of course, a full-on fitting would be even better but that usually costs something..... -
how important are 14 way dividers?
colnago1331 replied to Moonnerd's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I love my Four5. The only downside to it for me is that there's more club chatter because the clubs are separated. I've heard that people who use midsize or oversize grips have more problems getting their clubs in and out of the bag; but I have small hands with standard size grips so that's not an issue for me. -
What do you carry in your bag apart from your clubs?!
colnago1331 replied to Birdie's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Skycaddie SG5 Gloves (2) Divot tool w/ magnetic ball marker Rain hood Telescoping ball retriever TaylorMade Speed Sleeve Club holder for wet greens/rough Titleist 910 Wrench A BUNCH of tees ~1 dozen balls Towels (2) Bushnell rangefinder I think that's it....... -
Best 14 Way divider bag?
colnago1331 replied to mathews42's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
While I've only had it a short time, I absolutely love my Four 5. The padding on the shoulder straps is insanely comfortable. The 14-way divided slots work great for me; they've even reminded me that I left a wedge next to the green. :-O -
1. Break 85 2. Hit more fairways 3. Hit more GIRs 4. Stop getting angry at myself on bad shots

This was my bag for last year but I'm going to try to walk more this year so I'm doing my best to take away the temptation to ride. This Titleist cart bag is in excellent condition with no tears, rips or discolorations/fading. It has eight total pockets (one big on each side, two small on each side, a ball pocket and a tee pocket). All of the zippers work and there's no tearing or fraying at any of the handles. The 14-way divided top gives each club its individual chute, making the removal and replacing of clubs easy and hassle-free and it has a separate 15th slot for the putter (aka the putter well). Nice touches include a fleece-lined valuables pocket to protect any jewelry you may not want to wear while playing, a brushed silver towel ring, and a molded plastic handle at the bottom to make it easy to take the bag in and out of your trunk. It also includes the original rain hood, which snaps onto the bag easily and has a zipper so that you can still get to your clubs without any problems. This bag is easily in 9/10 condition (see pictures) and retails new for over $200!! I'm asking only $OLD shipped and PayPal'd!!!!! CONUS only. Not interested in any trades. More pics can be found here .

Yesterday I had to sing to my AP1s..... I think I did it again.I made you believe We're more than just friends. Oh, baby; It might seem like a crush, But it doesn't mean That I'm serious. So yeah, I've moved on to a set of TaylorMade MCs. I had the rare opportunity to buy some barely used MCs for a steal and jumped on it. And when I say "barely" I mean BARELY . I'm not sure if they'd hit more than a couple balls. The TaylorMade sticker was actually still on the shaft/hosel area of the 7 iron. So.....anyone want to buy a set of AP1s?

Nope, it's an older one with the "honey dipped" finish, which I actually like quite a bit.

I'm a Titleist ho so, of course, I've had both the D3 and the D2. I started with a 9.5* D3 which I liked well enough but the driver is my weakest club (i.e. the one I have the most trouble with) so I switched to an 8.5* D2. I have a naturally high ball flight so the 8.5* works well for me. I've had it paired with the PX 7C3. I picked up a RIP 60 stiff for it yesterday and will be trying that out.

I was doing fine until this past year. Between the mid 90's and this year I owned one set - my trusty Zing2s. Not counting those, I'm on my 4th iron set this year. Fortunately, I only took a hit on one set and it wasn't too bad of a hit.

can I shaft an Iron with a graphite shaft
colnago1331 replied to MbolicGolf's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
You can use a graphite shaft but you'd need to make sure it's the same tip size as the iron shafts. Most graphite wood shafts have either .335 or .350 tips while irons usually have .355 taper tip or .370 parallel tips. In the end, it's probably easier just to order a matching steel shaft. -
I use an air compressor; it's awesome. For irons I put double-sided tape on at the top and down about 1/2" - 1", mainly to keep the sharp edge of the shaft from cutting in to the grip. I dab my finger in some solvent and lightly coat the tape and the inside of the grip. I slide the grip onto the butt of the shaft and then, using the compressor set at about 60 psi, I shoot in bursts of air and slide the grip down and in to position. Works great. Not messy. Easy as all get-go to remove and re-use/sell the grips. I used to do it the old fashioned way (tape and solvent) and I'll never go back to that. And, FTR, I've done it with the Winn Lite DSi grips with no problems whatsoever.

How long is your driver shaft (thats what she said)
colnago1331 replied to kjb008's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I'm 5'4". My 910D3 is 45" but I grip down on it about 1/2" - 1". I'm also testing out an SL290 which is abhorrently long at 45 3/4". That one I'm finding myself choking down over 1" every time. -
In theory softer flex gives you greater distance but less control. The adage is you should get as soft a flex as you can control/handle. But as others have said, there's no industry standard for flex so one manufacturer's stiff could be another's regular.

With a coupon code like XR4KL7N you can get free shipping. You can also avoid shipping by doing in-store pickup. For four boxes of the new V1Xs it's $196.38 for me and I can have them tomorrow via in-store pickup.

short golfer (length of irons)
colnago1331 replied to ronmcc02's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
The PING color chart is a good starting point. It matches your height with your wrist to floor measurement. I would emphasize that it's only a good starting point. You should get a dynamic fitting (at least hit off of a lie board) to get a real sense of what length/lie adjustment you might need. FWIW, I'm 5'4" and my clubs are -1/2" and 2* flat. -
I didn't find the D2 to be that much more forgiving than the D3. However, I did find that the D3 was lower spinning for my swing and, overall, gave me more consistent results. My distance was probably greater with the D2 (which makes sense given it has a 460cc head) but I still get enough distance with the D3 and I feel like I have more control over it. I also found the D2 head to be simply gigantic and not pleasing to the eye.

Need help! Do I need new clubs?
colnago1331 replied to 3putt3134's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I would say take a few lessons. You don't have to take two a month for a year to get better. Even two or three could help you figure out what to work on in practice. Practicing 5x/week isn't necessarily doing you any good if you're not practicing a correct swing. Also, lessons aren't necessarily expensive. My local Golf Galaxy was running a special - 3 for $99.
