I wrote this in another post a few days ago: "I agree with Colin Cowherd who says "In America, theres' two seasons: Football season and waiting-for-football season." I think Ben Curtis wearing the logos and colors of the local NFL team is the coolest thing in golf. There's a hundred PGA pros on the course every weekend sporting some financial/investment/consulting firm logo I've never heard of and don't care about. I still have no idea what the crap "KPMG" is on Phil Mickelson's cap, and I'm not going to take time to look it up. I'm sure they do one of the three things I just mentioned. Anyway, Ben wearing the NFL stuff is very intelligent marketing and in my opinion makes him the most creatively dressed guy on the course when he plays." I can't believe nobody thinks his endorsement deal is as cool as I do. I guess that just proves I'm getting to be an old fart with bad tastes.

I'd pick Steve Stricker, Woody Austin, JB Holmes (b/c he played golf for Kentucky if for no other reason), and Brandt Snedeker.

How do you stop "over thinking" it?
tglover44 replied to slinkee's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
In the new edition of GOLF Magazine, with Stewart Cink on the cover, Mr. Cink has one of the best articles I've seen in a while about not over-thinking, and how to become a "feel" player. It spoke to me anyway, I've already read it like four times. -
In the Fall when the leaves are starting to fall. Temps in the 50's or 60's, light jacket weather. Teeing off early in the morning on Saturday to finish 18 before college football starts. I hate hot weather.

I didn't used to, but I live in NW Arkansas where they played the Northwest Arkansas Classic on July 4th weekend. I went two days and became a big fan. They are really good, they've got some great swings to watch, and most of them are super nice and great with the crowd.

Like it...money doesn't make you happy "Men for the sake of getting a living forget to live." Margaret Fuller "If you love what you do, you won't work a day in your life" And most importantly..... "Don't ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive; and go do that. Because what the world needs is men who have come alive."

My wife bought me the full 4-pack set of Brush-Tees for Father's Day a couple of years ago, after she saw an infomercial on The Golf Channel. They actually work OK...but I just can't bring myself to use them.

What Size Golf Shoe Do You Wear?
tglover44 replied to traxxasman's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Who the hell cares? I clicked on this thread b/c I thought it was a joke! Are we planning a sleepover so we try each others on ? Is there a new USGA study about to be released showing a direct corelation between shoe size and driving distance? Or perhaps those who wear size 8 or lower chip better? Intelligent conversation please! -
I agree totally, the NFL has to protect the NFL. If I learned anything from the Duke Lacrosse case, it reminded me that we are innocent until proven guilty. The difference here is that from the beginning the Duke case had conflicting evidence and the Vick case looks like it has some pretty hard evidence against him.

60° Wedge, LOVE IT OR HATE IT?
tglover44 replied to withdrew's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I remember reading, I believe in Golf Digest, Bob Vokey was quoted as saying most players would be better off with a 58*. I couldn't agree more. I used to have a 60* Cleveland 588 and switched to a 58* Vokey. I always had trouble with the 60* sliding under the ball, the ball just rolls up the clubface and I'd get no distance, I would have to hit with the shaft angled way forward to avoid this. I've never had that trouble with the 58*, it's just as versatile too, but easier too hit. 2* makes a lot of difference. -
LOOKS LIKE I WAS RIGHT....MAYBE I SHOULD BE A BETTING MAN!

Sergio is a polarizing figure, but I've always liked him...seems to have a good personality and I appreciate his passion. His passion however, seems to lack the killer instinct and nerves of steel needed to close out tournaments, especially majors. It wouldn't bother me if he wins tomorrow, but I predict he'll show up wearing a hideous outfit (e.g. last year's British Open pale yellow crap) and blow it. I really hope he doesn't but if I was a betting man I wouldn't bet on him pulling it out - too much history against it. I'm with you Erik on DiMarco....I like him too, but he definitely falls under the "What have you done for me lately?" category.

Gary McCord said that about Augusta, he can no longer announce for The Masters.

I'm an avid reader of all things golf, I especially love to do research on equipment because I'm a junkie just like the rest of you. Started out in golf in 1999 with clubs I bought through classified ads or store closeouts. Good stuff though, Titleist and Callaway mostly, all with stiff shafts. Two years ago wanted to completely re-tool. Fitting and launch monitors being the new rage, I decided I needed to get fit before re-tooling. If you've ever noticed in Golf Digest, they seem to recommend that we all play 23* drivers and several hybrids all with senior flex low-kick shafts. My fitter subscribed to this theory - "Everybody needs more loft and more flexible shafts!" Anyway, I bought into and now I have a bag full of stuff that I can't play, or can't control anyway. Just wondering if there are any more victim's out there and what your experiences are.

I believe I read somewhere that Tiger's ball has a thinner cover than the model sold to the public.

How do you guys play so much???? Are you all single and unemployed? I have a wife and 3-yr-old twins, a full-time job, and go to school part-time. Twice a month if I'm lucky!

The strongest lofted irons i could find.
tglover44 replied to Clubswinger21's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Someone who is good enough to make consistent contact could probably tell a bit of difference between a 31* 6 iron and a 29* 6 iron. Somebody like me who hits one thin and the next one fat, it probably doesn't matter. I've always played 6 irons at 30* and PW at 46*, and I like to keep it that way. The rest of my bag is set to fill in the gaps using those lofts. And I think gimmicky could be a good word to describe VERY strong lofted clubs like TM does. I'm not a TM guy, but it's nothing against them. Callaway just did it too by putting a 46" shaft on the FT-i. For some reason I view giving clubs longer shafts and very strong lofts and other things like that deceiving, it just bugs me. -

tglover44 replied to Clubswinger21's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
You're right, Taylormade makes some ridiculously strong lofted clubs. I usually look at the 6 iron instead of the 8, I've discovered in my research that most game-improvement 6 irons are in the 28-30 range, while most players irons are usually 31 or so. A Taylormade from a year or two ago had 26* for a 6, I'm sorry but that's a 5! Mis-informed people will hit a TM 6 iron and they'll start thinking "Man, these are a club longer than mine!" Yeah, because you're hitting a 5 technically! If you look at most forged clubs, like the Titleist 755's I've been looking at, you can custom order them not only for lie angle, but you can order the loft +/- 2 degrees as well. That way you can get the loft you want. -
What is the difference between the F4 and the F2? Anybody know? Size, internal weighting, etc?
-
The only thing I didn't like was that closed face at address, I like a little heavier feel in a hybrid too. My hybrid (old TM Rescue Mid circa 2002) is the oldest club in my bag, I haven't found one that I like better.

This is a weird post, but I have the ultimate answer: A1 Steak Sauce! Seriously, go to your 'fridge and take a whiff. I'm thinking beyond candles - aftershave, men's deodorant, body wash, etc.

I used to play Cleveland wedges before they switched to the "Carbon Metal Matrix" in everything. I just never liked the look and feel as much after they discontinued the original 588 series. I now carry three Vokey's. Love the look, love the feel, they're perfect.
-
No, only 54, 56, 58 & 60. I wish they did though, and a 50.
-
Vokey 50*, 54* and 58*. Various bounces so I have lots of options around the green. I've always liked Vokey's the best.
