I have a buddy who would like to introduce his 5 year old to golf this summer. He doesn't play a lot of golf so he needs some help teaching the basics. Are there any courses offering group lessons or clinics in the Philadelphia area that you could recommend for kids? Or any other recommendations for this scenerio would be welcomed as well. Thanks in advance for any responses.

I played Ravsloe last summer for the first time and I would say it was the worst conditioned course I have ever played. I know the summer was tough on courses last year but it was really bad. Half of the greens were mud. It was to bad because the layout was nice. Has anyone played it this year? Have they improved the conditions from last year?

What are the best courses in Michigan.

I am playing one of the Gull Lake courses in a couple of weeks. Anyone have any opinions about these golf courses? -
I went to the TMPL and was recommended to use a 4w instead of a 3w. I love it and agree that it is so much easier to hit.

Thank you for the link. "Promot hip turn" was the wrong thing to say, but all of the pictures show a straight left leg at impact.

I'm not a teacher but have been taking lessons and I have a couple of the same issues as you that I can see from the "down the line" view. One, you are taking the club alittle to the inside. Two, your club, at the top of your back swing, is aiming right of the target, when it should be aiming at, or slightly left of the target. Some of the things I have been working on are taking the club straighter back and as a result, my hands are higher at the top of the backswing. I now see the club head aiming left of the target at the top of my swing. One more thing, in regards to the "face on" view. Your left leg, at the point of impact, looks like a reversed "C". Try staightening your left leg at impact to promot more of a hip turn instead of a slide.

Usage may not have been the sole reason for the sky rocketing price's but was a factor, just not US consumption. It was China's usage that messed up the supply and demand balance that we had gotten used to for so long.

I hope he won't be playing to much center field. On ESPN radio this morning, they said the TV announcers for the Reds were ripping on him for not being able to cover right field.

What do the sox do with jr? Center field and put Swisher on 1st?

I always play for a little money, even if it's only a $5 nasau, so my game goes through it's usually up and downs with money on the line. This is the first year that I have been playing in tournaments and I have found that I concentrate better during one. I have played some of my best golf this year at tournaments.

Wow! Not only was this a little harsh but you are jumping to conclusions here. Maybe after all necessities are paid for, and everyone in the family can have a little money for recreation. Maybe Soup Fan just wants to figure out what to do with his/her rec money. This post is totally uncalled for.

Was in a 2 man best ball tournament. I missed an easy 4 foot par putt on the first so we were 1 down out the gate. Got up and down from 50 yards to save par on 2 and we were even. Made a great 25 foot up hill birdie putt on 3 to go 1 up. But my shot of the week was on 4. Pulled my drive on a par four and had to chip out. I am now 166 yards to an elevated green with wind blowing left to right, partner is in the water. Green is two teared and pin is on the lower level which is actually the right side of the green. I know that I need to land the ball in the center of the green, where the hill is, in order to stop the ball on the green as it is not very deep. I knock a choked up 7 iron that lands exactly where I invisioned. The ball kicks right and the ball rolls to within 2 feet. Tap in for par to go 2 up. I will remember that shot for some time.

Congratulations. It is my goal to get to a single digit as well. Unfortunately, my handicap has gone up from a 10 to a 10.8. I am playing better though but it is in best ball tournaments so I haven't been entering scores.

New Putter or wedge? Which to add first?
redi630 replied to jrode's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I just replaced both but I purchased my putter first. Bought the wedges 4 months later though. So I say, go for both! -
"Extraordinary Golf: The Art of the Possible" by Fred and Pete Shoemaker
redi630 replied to iacas's topic in Reading Room
For me, I got the most help from the mental process that I go through, leading up to every shot. The mindset that I have now, after reading this book, not only helps me prepare for the next shot but it also helps me forget about my last shot, whether that shot was good or bad. The club throwing exercise is to get you to "feel" what a correct golf shot is like. How do you get to an effective golf swing with this exercise? I think it depends on what your deffect is. If your weight is on your back foot on your follow through, concentrate on what it feels like to have the weight on your front foot when you do the club throwing exercise. Than try to have the same feeling when you take a normal swing. If your problem is with flicking your wrists to much, than try to feel what it's like, not to flick your wrists with the club throwing exercise. Once you have that feel, try to replicate it on a normal swing. What is the issue with your swing that you would like to correct? -
Ready golf diminishes the integrity of the game? That seems a little harsh. I think we can consider pace of play without jeopardizing the integrity of the game.

What? The guy had Vertigo! Than, when he was starting to play better, his wife had complications with her pregnancy and he choose to put his family ahead of golf. He took another year off, right when he was starting to play good again, to tend to his family, as his wife layed in bed for something like 5 months striaght. You are talking out of your a** here.

To Funny! PS-much love for the late Mitch Headberg. "This shirt is 'dry clean only', which means it's dirty"

I am a big fan of "ready golf" and try to establish it on the first hole if I am playing with people I don't usually play with.

Putting eye position: Over the ball or not?
redi630 replied to bunkerputt's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I was sure I needed a 35" putter but got fitted and was told I needed a 34". I was hesitant but took the advice. I have been putting with the shorter putter for maybe 4 months now and love it. I tried goofing around with my old 35" and it felt very awkward. I know I made a good choice in the shorter length. -
This year has been tough. We started really late because of the long winter and the weekends this summer have not been great. The weekend of the 4th was nice but now it is getting hot and humid. Golfing in the suburbs of Chicago is good but I wouldn't call it cheap. $50-$80 for a decent course. $90-$150 will get you good courses. I don't know what it's like golfing in Quincy though. Usually towns on the river have decent cheap courses.

So do you pull the ball a lot? If so, focus on getting your lower body working more on the short shots. I had problems with consistently pulling the ball and I learned that it was because I was only using my upper body on the short shots. I have to make sure I swivel my hips, and than I stop pulling the ball. Stan Utley does a great job of explaining this in his book "The Art of the Short Game". You have actually just figured out your own problem on the 1/2 shots. You do not want to slow down your swing on these. The idea behind a half shot is that you only take the club half way back, swing normal and then have an abbreviated back swing. Since you are not bringing the club all the way back, you are not generating the same swing speed as a full shot and then the ball does not fly as far.

I knew a bar that sponsored a race car for a 6 pack of beer and a dinner, once a week, and the bars name was etched on the top of the visor of the helmet.

I have a car payment, wife's school loans and a Mortgage. Car and school should be paid off in 2 years but the Mortgage alone will still keep me over 25K.
