  2. Sure...go demo the R1 and demo other drivers too. Low spin, unforgiving drivers are probably not the best fit for most of us but go see for yourself. Personally, I wouldn't want to buy a club that I thought was ugly, but that's just one guys opinion.
  3. I tried out the XL 3wood today at Roger Dunn and I think it's going to be my next purchase. Love the feel of this club! At first glance, the deep face concerned me...wasn't sure how I'd hit it off the deck. I hit about a dozen shots in the hitting bay (which is a pretty tight lie) and it was one towering shot after another with a slight draw. It seems to be much more forgiving than my 8 year old 904f. The head seems to have some extra heft and I really got along well with the Matrix XCon 6 shaft. I bet this thing is great off the tee too. I'd like to hear some other comments about this club but it looks like the favorite to replace my old fairway woods.
  4. I'm also disappointed in Haney's teaching methods. I understand that this is basically a "reality" show with tidbits of golf instruction thown in, but watching Phelps swing at full speed to the point of exhaustion probably doesn't help him, and I certainly don't get anything out of it. Like Erik said, hopefully there is a lot more "teaching" going on but the producers prefer to show us swimming footage and talk show clips. Phelps should easily reach his goal of beating his best score of 91 very quickly if Haney is worth a damn as an instructor. So far, it seems to me that Rush is the only one who showed any progress under Haney's tutoring. I don't know if anyone could help Barkley and Romano seemed frustrated with Haney. If someone with the athletic ability and drive of Phelps can't get better, the show should be cancelled.

  6. The marine isn't the sharpest tool in the shed and he knows it. What a bonehead move in the blackjack game.

    Dick Out

We don't enforce it if it is cold outside.
  8. I'd take 210 yds in the middle of the fairway every time. If i'm playing from the white tees, I will hit a lot of GIR's from this position and my scores would improve.
  9. There is a new, 2011 Bridgestone e5 ball...I just picked up a dozen today. It is different from previous versions in that it has a dual dimple design. Just like your Top Flight Gamer! Here is a link to more info on the ball from Bridgestone: http://www.bridgestonegolf.com/product/balls/e5 I've always liked the e5 balls; higher ball flight and a bit more distance off the tee for me with decent greenside spin.
  10. I'm an 11.2 handicap and shot a 98 last week (difficult course and longer than I usually play (6700yds)). I will shoot in the 90's more frequently than I break 80. You are normal.
  11. I also use greenskeeper to track my handicap and stats and wasn't thrilled when this happened. Instead of assigning my Greenskeeper "CDF" to a course, I calculate my own differentials using the USGA slopes and ratings . I just have to do a little math first: A score differential is calculated as follows: ((ESC Score - Rating) X 113) / Slope BTW, I do have a GHIN membership but I like Greenskeeper stat tracking functions.
  12. I've been playing 5 years (started at age 40) and am an 11 handicap. I enjoy this game so much I turned down a promotional opportunity because it would have interfered with my Saturday 4 some.
  13. This holds true at the courses I play...you know the pin placement based on the tee positions.
  14. What is this thing you guys call Winter?
  15. LOL...I actually play more in the summer because the greens fees are so inexepensive. However, I do try to start no later than 7am in July and August. 110F-120F makes for a tough round even though we have that nice DRY heat!
  16. When I can't play in shorts! Thankfully this doesn't happen very often in the Palm Springs area.
  17. LOL...I'm going to have that thought in my head every time I bend over to steal a tee!
  18. I often steal broken and unbroken tees that are left by other golfers on a tee box. I used to feel twinges of guilt but I no longer have any remorse. Never thought I'd end up a hardened criminal but it's true.
  19. I don't disagree with the idea of playing from a variety of tees. One course near my home has blues at 6300 and whites at about 5900. Both of these tees are playable for me and I don't play from the same set each round...the white tees allow me to hit 3W or 5W off the tee on many par 4's and I usually average a few more GIR from the whites. However, I stand by my original post that many recreational golfers (read weekend hacks) would post better scores if they played tees which matched their game (eg not playing from the championship tees or tips). Male golfers almost never choose tees that are too short for their game. My drives only go 215-225 so I know it is going to be tough sledding for me if I try to play 6400+ yd tracks.
  20. I also think 5i distance times 36 is a good indicator of the correct tees. My 5i maxes out at about 175 (36X175=6300) and I really start to struggle on tees which exceed 6300yds. Many recreational golfers would enjoy the game more and shoot better scores if they played from the appropriate tees IMHO.
  21. My home course has the following: Yellow = Forward = 5503 yds Teal = Middle = 6115 yds Orange = Championship= 6616 yds Blue = Tournament = 7173 yds I play Teal and sometimes Orange.
  22. I've experimented with a 3 hybrid but my 5 wood (Titleist 904f) never gets kicked out of the bag. I'm a relatively short knocker but get 190 yards off the tee with 5 wood on narrow or short par 4's and can hit it with nice trajectory off the deck. My bag consists of: Driver, 3W, 5W, 4Hybrid.
  23. Handicap: 11 Average Drive: 220 I'll occassionaly hit one 240+...last week I hit a GPS verified drive of 292 yards on a course that was firm and fast becasue they had scalped the bermuda and were preparing to overseed. But...my "average" drive truly is about 220yds. I have trouble with a course over 6500yds but I still manage to beat many of my friends who outdrive me.
  24. Like most here, I don't enjoy 5 hour+ rounds where I'm constantly waiting. However, I'll take those long rounds over playing with a group of FASTPLAY bastards. Can't stand it when a groups goal is to see if they can get their 4 some in at under 2.5 hours. I play golf to enjoy my leisure time and its miserable when your group wants to constantly rush. If you have a plane to catch or don't have the time for a 3.5-4 hour round (for a 4 some), keep your ass at home!
