  1. Watching today's round on DVR and saw this discussion before seeing the shot in question. Feherty did say it was red, but then corrected himself and specifically said it was yellow.

  3. Thanks! I think I befriended a leprechaun somewhere. Two wins and inside the top 50 in the nation. Lots of golf left for the season!
  4. I'm in.
  5. I was actually fitted for that loft and shaft. Of course something has changed in my swing since then. My main point of the thread isn't so much what is wrong with my swing. That I would go to a pro and have them look at in person (which I will probably do early next Spring). I am more curious if people have successfully gained extra distance and how they did it if they did.
  6. Thanks Spudmonkey. Good info. Ironically I went back to working on a flat left wrist like I did a few years ago and started seeing some gains in distance on solid shots. On the ones I didn't hit solid I wasn't hitting as far, but when I made a good stroke and kept that flat left wrist it made a difference.
  7. I WANT MORE DISTANCE DANG IT!!!!!!!! Don't we all! I know, topic that has been discussed before. I'm looking for people that have successfully gained distances of 10 to 20 yards throughout the bag through drills, strength training, whatever may have worked. Here's my situation. I currently play at a 11.2 handicap. I've been playing in Salt Lake City for a couple of years now after playing primarily in the southeast for the past 25 years. The altitude difference definitely helps with extra distance, but I recently played a tournament in Hilton Head and my distances were horrible. I was hitting driver 210 max. Every Par 5 was Driver, 5W, 5W to reach the green. I had a lot of long Par 4s where I had to lay up and wedge in hoping to get a par. My short game isn't perfect, and I know I can gain more strokes there, but I already save strokes around the green with my short game. During the tournament I played in I was the shortest hitter in my group for three straight days. I was consistently outdriven by 20-30 yards, sometimes for over 50 yards by some of the longer hitters. Where I hit hybrids into greens guys were hitting 7 and 8 irons. I'm not looking for monster distance increases, but I honestly think I can get a club or two extra if I work at it. Just looking for any suggestions from people that have actually been successful at doing so. I'm done being a short hitter and having to rely on my long game to get me close to the green and a short game to hopefully make up strokes. I'd much rather be hitting shorter clubs into greens and putting more often than having to chip up and save par. I'm not looking to buy new equipment to get extra distance as I have modern clubs that I know can be hit further. Thanks for the help!
  8. Seen it once on the course when I was much younger. Two friends and I were playing and eventually had a single catch up to us. We offered for him to join us and he did. A few holes later he brought out some weed. I didn't touch it, but my friends did. All of us were having a few beers as well already. A couple of holes later one of my friends hits his drive down the middle, then proceeds to hit a low shot that took three bounces and went into the cup on a Par 4.

  10. Same here. Brutal.
  11. Strikes are for those players that do not field a full team for each week. Three strikes and you are out of the league. If someone is dropped from the league then someone else (like maybe you) can then join. I think it is first come - first served when that happens. If history is any indication, there will definitely be plenty of people who drop throughout the season. Keep an eye out and join when you can.
  12. Just got back to this thread. In all honesty, I did update my team before going out of town in case I couldn't get back to the internet while gone, but messed up and picked players that weren't playing. Not that I anticipate missing any weeks, but I'd like to not have a "strike" on me.
  13. I won a Leupold GX-1 here on The Sandtrap during a contest two to three years ago. I wouldn't have bought one on my own, but now that I have one I'd buy one in a heartbeat if I lost the one I have. They are very easy to use and accurate. I've also found using it speeds up my round by a few minutes since I don't have to search for yardage markers. Having said that, if I'm not in a hurry and not slowing anyone behind me down I'll try to get a yardage to the middle of the green using markers as well as a distance to the pin. This helps in figuring out if I should just shoot for the middle of the green or whether there is enough room to go for the pin. On very deep greens it really helps as the difference between a front pin to the middle can be two to three clubs vs. just one for a normal green. As someone else has already said, using it to nail down your club distances is a plus as well. Get a distance to the pin, hit the shot, note the difference. Compare a few shots and you can tell pretty much how far you are hitting a particular club. I also use mine on the range frequently. While I don't focus on distances too often due to the differences in range balls, I will use it for shorter shots as the difference isn't as much. I'll pick a targets between 40 and 120 yds and work on getting as close as possible. Overall, I'd say a laser range finder is a great investment for someone who is serious about improving their game.
  14. Don't forget the sunscreen. That would make for a long vacation if you get sunburned the first day. Along the lines of club ho, when I play in hot weather I take small towels or rags and soak them in water. I then roll them up, place them in ziplock bags, and freeze them. I keep them in a small cooler in my car for after the round. They are awesome for wiping off all of the sweat while cooling off at the same time. When I play with a group of friends I'll make a few for them too. Never heard a complaint:-)
  15. mlf, It's OK, we appreciate you taking the initiative and starting a league. gogolfing ran it last year ( and I think years previous) http://thesandtrap.com/t/41994/fantasy-golf-2011. He did a great job since he actually managed the players and removed the "dead wood" after people quit letting others into the game. BTW, as the 2011 "Club Champ", I'm in:-)
  16. Thanks gogolfing! It was nerve racking at the end with all of you guys near the top doing really well and making it interesting. And congrats to MrOuch for taking the Summer series as well. Thanks for setting this up. Looking forward to next year. SRJ aka "srjgolfer"
  17. For me personally, I've found I almost play the same speed no matter what tee I play from. I might save ten minutes a round if I play from the whites vs. the blues or blacks, but it's being ready to hit when it's your turn (or not taking forever if playing alone) that keeps me moving. Read your putts while others are reading theirs, be ready to putt after they finish, have your club selected and ready after one of your partners hits if able, etc.
  18. I'm glad Justin went home. He showed his true colors in the end.
  19. I use my 52 for most chip shots. Relatively low runner for most shots. If I have a shorter runout area I'll move to my 56.
  20. I tried the e6 late last year and really liked it. Lately I've been trying the e5. So far I like the e5. I can definitely tell a difference in spin. If spin is your main goal, go for the e5. If you slice/hook often you may want to stick with the e6. Either way, both are good balls for the money.
  21. Playing with my brother-in-law last year and he was teeing off with his driver. There was a short bridge with about a four inch raised edge running down both sides about fifty feet in front of the tee box running perpendicular to the shot direction. He proceeds to hit a screaming low shot that dives down into the bridge, bounces off one edge, and then rapidly bounces back and forth inside the bridge about thirty times before stopping in the middle of the bridge. He was furious at the shot and I was astonished. After he calmed down he realized just how odd the shot was and started to laugh a little.
  22. What are your yardages for each club? Do you have a 4i, 4h, or a gap between your 3h and 5h? If you can cover the yardages throughout your bag then it should work fine.
  23. Interesting. I'm glad I posted this because I figured it was something that didn't happen often. I guess next time I'll go ahead and hit if someone waves me on. I do like the awmgolfer's comments about it feeling like hitting to a green in the PGA:-)
  24. I hit the course this morning and they sent me off as a single. There was a fivesome of older gentlemen that had just teed off. I was told they were super slow but would probably let me play through. Hole 1 is a Par 5, and as I'm laying two ready for my approach shot these guys are all putting. One of the guys sees me and waves for me to play through. Mind you they are all there within 30 feet of the hole putting, and the flagstick isn't even in the hole. I sit there thinking he is letting me know they are going to let me play through after the hole. The guy who waved at me then puts the flagstick back into the hole and waves for me again to hit. I laughed to myself and motioned for them to keep playing which they did. I guess these guys were either confident I wouldn't be putting the ball anywhere within 30 feet of the hole or they felt they would be able to move out of the way if my ball came towards them. When I arrived at #2 they had all teed off but told me to go ahead and play through. I mentioned I didn't want to hit them on #1 but they really didn't seem to think much about it. Very nice guys, but kind of scary they would want to stand at the target of the people playing through.
  25. Welcome. I'm in South Jordan myself. I just moved here last July and this is the first place I've lived where I have had to deal with snow. I've been fortunate enough to be able to play through winters until now. Luckily there is a heated range near my house so I can still break out the clubs from time to time when I get the itch. It won't be long and the weather will be nice enough to play consistently.
