Galvin Green vs. Zero Restriction
hawkeye replied to VOX's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Never seen Zero Restriction but Galvin Green are brilliant. If you can afford them. Playing in Ireland - it can be bitterly cold in winter - the waterproof trousers are essential if you want to keep warm and dry. I bought a wet-suit in 2006 for 400EUR (200 for jacket, 200 for trousers) that's about 550 USD in total. I've probably used the trousers 100's of times and have gotten great wear out of them. If you play a lot of golf, it's worth it. -
I'm glad I didn't take that stock option in my company last year. I didn't have enough money to divesify - just a small amount (a bonus actually! - not getting one this year...) and could have put it into stock. It's going to be another shocker today - Asia is going nuts selling.

Just found a link to the new Burner 2009 range of drivers from reading about Dustin Johnsons WITB on the TM website: http://www.taylormadegolf.com/produc...overview&sr;=eu I wasn't an immediate fan of the Tour Burner (hence sticking to the Burner 07) but with a Burner 08 fairway wood (T5) on demo in my bag, i've grown accustomed the triangular shape - I can't wait to try the 09! What y'all think?

Dunhill - playing 3 of the best links in the world over playing one - i'm a fan of Pebble Beach but golf wouldn't be golf without the waterproofs and wooly hat for me!

Adidas Tour 360 3.0

i have the 1's and the 2's - both v comfortable, looking forward to getting the 3's (when they're heavily disounted in a years time!) no shoe is 100% waterproof I have found (Well it is always wet here!) so it wouldn't bother me if they weren't... -

i've never seen an LPGA tour player do that - the words out of her mouth I don't mind so much (not a great image for golf though, with young kids watching) - A lot of the men do it too - but the throwing of the club was a bit much. It's good to see a pro letting their emotions out on the course - we am's do it often enough! she is still a class player! -

as long as tiger still plays one, they'll keep making them! the basic design will be around for a good while - the material changes with new ranges every couple years it seems. -
Driver: not pretty, but goes long and straight, can work it both ways, as well as high and low. Not difficult to catch off the deck either. Only downside is I have to bend it to fit it into my car boot! 3-wood: Larger head (titanium, lighter than steel) - pretty at address, easy to hit off the deck and tee alike. Rescue: versitile - tee, fairway, rough, draw, fade, under tree - easy to hit Irons: Not the most forgiving of irons but penetrating and great for shotmaking. Not for everyone but I don't see myself changing for a long time. Wedges: it'll always be a personal choice, the lofts are the main thing for me. 54 and 58 give me the most versitility - distance control and greenside touch/feel. Putter: the current one gets the ball in the hole in the easiest manner and fewest shots. This is the only reason you'd get one putter over another, i feel.

anyone hit these? I really like the look of them, and love the performance of the hybrids. In particular, anyone hit the 5 wood? what shafts?

Goes on all the time. I was a score-board boy at a the European Open years ago and half the players had one driver and another drivers headcover. Furyk is sponsored by Srixon but he has played Titleist and TM drivers. Harrington had a D2 in his bag for a while - Wilson headcovers.
-
Harrington is the only player in the world to have been partnered with Tiger Woods in a tournament five or more times and to outscore him.

I had a Spalding "Utility Wedge" a few years ago - maybe that's the U? if you want to add similar specialist wedges to your i10's, you can't go wrong with the Tour-W's - very similar.

Is ping coming out with new stuff?

the S57's are out in Ireland - I picked one up in a shop last week. VERY similar to the S58's, ever so slightly thinner top line and less offset which makes them look more blade like. I'm glad I didn't wait for them, the S58's look easier to hit but are easy to shape - a true players club. For some differences: http://www.tourspecgolf.com/proshop/...duct_info.html -
it's obvious who i'm up for - be great for Padraig to win one of the events, and collect player of the year as well as the Fedex Cup itself. He's a hero over here - there's talk of him being the greatest sportsman ever. Time will tell but 3 majors is no joke!

I was loving watch Villegas play this week - up to his demise. But did anyone see him and Greg Norman on the 10th tee having a little banter - Rocco was close at hand too. The BBC commentators were observing Camillo's yoga-like pose and wondered if Greg would try a similar position on the bench at 53. "Crouching Camillo, Hidden Dragon." So when eventually Freddy Jacobson and Stephen Ames finished the 10th (and 3/4 other groups were waiting on them), Camillo hops up and says to Norman (tapping him on the knee), "hang in there." Was lovely to see professional golfer from different generations of the game all competing at the British Open and having a bit of fun.

Perry and Westwood. Two of the hottest golfers at the moment.
-
Faldo and Woosnam play with the same length shafts - it's all about the lie angle. Faldo being very tall, Woosnam being not very tall - they both gripped it in a similar fashion so it wasn't all that noticable. Kim grips down on a longer shaft than perhaps suits him from a conventional point of view - but sometimes the best golfers do things their own way. You can always see the end of Sergios clubs too - it's the style he plays.

i remember reading this before: http://hdlpga.blogspot.com/2007/05/i...shes-gone.html

yeah i use a 54. depends on the gap between your wedges, I have 3: 47, 54 and 58. If i had room for another wedge, I might have 47, 52, 56, 60 but 3 is enough for me :) I might get the 54 bent to a 53 to even up the gap.

I'm going to get a 2-iron, i hit my 3-iron off the tee a lot, and rarely off the fairway, so I'm going to replace the 3 with a 2. Possibly Ping i10. Highest wood is a 5-wood but it's out of the bag (hybrid in) And my hybrid was the bridge the gap between 3 iron and 3 wood initially, might change it or take it out when the 2-iron comes. It'll come in and out depending on the course im playing.

Shoes: Adidas or Nike
hawkeye replied to myndcraft's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I have 360's and 360 2's - very nice shoe, comfort and class look. Only wore Nike's once, don't like the look of them to be honest. I only buy fooyjoy and adidas really, Ecco's ruined my feet (in normal shoes) -
He plays off 10 - his lowest was 9.7 and his ambition is to get to single figures, if even for only ONE round. He's 9.9 at the moment (been out to 12 since he was 9.7) but he doesn't play a whole lot. He works damn hard monday to friday, rarely gets out midweek and never practices. I'd like to see him get down to 9 - he'd be well able if he played a bit more. Best round is a 79. My mums best is 78!
-
My Pro was able to tell me that I should be around 1 Ping Colour upright (0.75) - we have identical builds and posture at address and he says he'd be the same only he likes to play a draw so he plays standard Pings (Black). It means his irons are 0.75 flat - If you're used to it, 1 degree out is alright, especially if you can hit it straight.

What ball has surprised you in a good way?
hawkeye replied to Dub's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Titleist PTS Roll - they have them at my local driving range/academy. Nice feel for a second grade golf ball - might stock up for the winter.
