  1. And remember, you are not allowed to have your phone or other similar electronic devices out during tournament play.
  2. 48*(PW), 52/08*, 56/12*, 60/04 48- Shots over ~110, knockdown shots
  3. I think that this list does a decent job on rating sports on overall difficulty. I think the criteria they used to judge sports gives an accruate (if somewhat subjective) primer for rating difficulty. The only disagreements I have with the lists are scores they give to certain sports. For example, I think golf was underscored on the Analytic Aptitude and nerve scores. As was mentioned before, golf is primarily a mental game. And while golfers aren't making high-pressured decisions like Joe Montana evaluating a defense while 250lb linebackers are breathing down his neck, the decision making process is still stressful. As for the nerve score, I also wonder if the panelists have ever had to sink a 5 footer for a $2 skin, let alone a major championship. Even though I am a die-hard golfer I have to agree with the other rakings in areas like strength, power, speed, endurance, etc. While these traditional athletic attributes can be immensly important, they aren't as crucial as in other sports. The point is Tiger Woods' athelticism puts him well above other professional golfers, but I could never see him playing corner back for an NFL team or playing rugby for a national team. Although I hear he is phenomenal ping-pong player...
  4. Woods #1 - Play Club #2 - Brassie #3 - Spoon Irons #1 - Driving Iron, Cleek #2 - Cleek #3 - Mid-Mashie #4 - Jigger #5 - Mashie #6 - Spade Mashie #7 - Mashie-Niblick #8 - Pitching Mashie #9 - Baffing Spoon #10 - Jigger Blank (flat stick) See below.
  5. Any municpal discussion has to include Pacific Grove. "The poor man's Pebble Beach" $40 on the weekends.
  6. I once did 36 holes in just under 4 hours. It was a cold rainy day in April, so the course was completely empty. I was keeping a pretty strong pace, but by no means rushing.
  7. Great progress guys! Keep it up! Although, I would definitely recommend getting some lessons or other professional advice. IMO, the idea of "Refusing to take lessons because I feel as though I'm athletically inclined enough to figure the golf swing out." should be revisited. All the best golfers in the world have swing coaches and are constantly getting "lessons". One thing I have learned about learning golf is that it is similar to learning math (or any number of other subjects). By this I mean that sure, if you were smart enough, you could learn how to do calculus by reading a math book. But it is significantly easier (and quicker!) to learn from a competent teacher.
  8. Great post. So where is my exemption category (i.e. category 435: guy who really likes to play golf, posts on the sandtrap, and shot an 83 with rental clubs last weekend)
  9. It is always difficult to compare athletes in any sport across generations. There have just been too many advances in physical training, and technology (in golf, especially). But on an even playing field, I have to give the title to Jack, for right now. I love Tiger, and there is no doubt in my mind that he can eventually top Jack. But he still has to do it.
  10. I think I am starting to learn this whole course management thing: On this situation, unless I was sure I could make it to the green, I would just put the ball 85-95 yards from the green (for an easy lob wedge in). On every par 5 (and most par 4s), when I am more than 230 out I just take the yardage, and subtract 90 to decide what club to hit.
  11. 2h- I am confident with it (not to mention I tend to beat the snot out of the ball with this club). It is also the only club in bag which goes farther when I actually try to swing harder 5i- Versitile, I can take a little off this club and hit it anywhere between 160-200 yards 8i- Very confident with this club, couldn't live without it GW- I need a finnesse club around the greens, and I can still hit it 110-120. Putter- If you have to ask, you might want to try out www.gardeningforums.com
  12. I prefer the name "crackberry" because I love this device so much. I have graduated to the 8800 from the 7130c. You should be able to open and view all attachments via the built-in BB software. Just click the trackheel where it says "[1 Attachment]" to pull up the screen. The only thing that would stop you (as mentioned above) is restrictions from your company. As for additional tips on your device, I use www.blackberryforums.com ; there is a dedicated room for the 8800 series which has some comprehensive FAQs. Think sandtrap.com swing section, but for BBs. Enjoy!
  13. I think the way Augusta National governs their coverage ensures that the Master's is the classiest and easiest to watch tournament out there. No more than 2 commercials, and hand-picked sponsors: doesn't get much better there. Although the best thing about the Masters, is that a winner will be declared on Sunday. It's not even an option to go to Monday coverage. It will be interesting to see ESPNs handling of the coverage, but regradless I can't wait to watch.
  14. I am always in the mood for a good Guiness (day, night, and in between). When I am out with my buddies and we are having "one of those nights" I will drink the bud/ coors light (coupled with a few shots of fermented agave, of course). Although on the golf course, nothing quite satisfies me like a couple of coors lights.
