  1. I don't know if this will work for you, but it worked for a friend of mine who was struggling with this problem. I would have him warm up on the range hitting a few wedges to get his rhythm going. Then I would have him start his swing from the top of his backswing. This forced him to start his downswing smoothly. It's hard to do at first, but stick with it. After he did it for awhile, I had him go back to taking full swings. What it got him doing was making a smooth transaction from the backswing to the downswing. Most average golfers have a habit of trying to hit the ball from the top of their backswing. This helped him to store up his power until he needed it, at the ball and through it. Here's another tip that worked for a different guy. I told him to hit a ball and finish his swing and pose for a few seconds. I wanted him to concentrate on a nice finish. If you watch the average golfer, they hardly ever finish their swing because they're hitting at the ball. If you watch low handicappers or the pros, you'll notice they always finish their swings, and in balance. Hope this helps in some way.
  2. I've shot in the 60's numerous times, but not nearly as often as I use to. When I played golf in school, it was a lot more commen because I was playing all the time. Your swing gets in a groove, and your feel is a lot sharper than when you just play once or twice a month.
  3. I've seen a lot worse swings than his. :)
  4. I don't play near as much as I use to, but when I shoot 80, it feels like 100. The better you get, the more consistent you get, so that even on a off day you can still score effectively. I've had rounds where I couldn't hit more than 4 greens in regulation, and still shoot around par. Part of that is having a good short game, but it also takes mental toughness. I think that's why Tiger stands out so much . He is so much better mentally than the others. Even when he's struggling with his swing, his mental toughness won't allow him to play bad.
  5. All I know is that it's the most beautiful golf course I've ever had the privilege to experience. If there's a golf course in Heaven, I would expect it to be Augusta National. :)
  6. I've broken par numerous times with my lowest being a 62 ( 8 under ), but I consider a 66, my best round because of the course I did it on.
  7. My best is eight counting eagles. I had six birdies & two eagles in one round.

    Eagles!?!?!

When I use to play a lot, I averaged over 10 a year. I only play 6-10 rounds a year now, so the opportunities don't come along as often.
  9. I walk usually because I enjoy it more. It gives me time to take in all the beauty of the course, as well as prepare for the next shot.
  10. I play about 6-10 rounds a year, at least over the past 4-5 years. That doesn't average out to very often. During golf season I do hit balls a couple times a week on average while teaching my children. I played a lot of golf when I was younger, and don't feel the need to play as often now. I still can go out and shoot around par even though I don't play that often, which drives a lot of my friends crazy. They can't understand why I don't play more since I can still shoot around par. They don't realize that there are more important things in my life than golf. But everyone has different priorites. As long as I can go out and still shoot low 70's, and the occasional under par round I'm happy only playing the few times I do.
  11. You also have to pay attention to where the tee markers are. Just because the card says one yardage doesn't mean it's accurate, if the tees have been moved up or back.
  12. It is fun to be "In The Zone". The better you get the more often you get there. But even when I shoot a 66, I don't feel like I'm ready for the tour. Those guys are on a different level. :)
  13. Look under www.golfreview.com/cat/irons/titleist . There are 15 reviews on them. It's a good site if you're wanting to look at reviews.
  14. Exactly, that's why it comes down to personal preference. There is no one club right for everyone.
  15. I carry 14, but rarely use all of them in a round. That's when you know you've played a good course, when you hit every club in your bag.
  16. Louisville. That's probably about it. I still have some of my old Toney Penna Persimmon drivers, as well as a Cleveland Ben Crenshaw & MacGregor Jack Nicklaus. They sure are pretty. :)
  17. My low score is a 62, (-8) on a fairly easy course. It was back when I was playing in college. But I don't consider it my best round. That would be at Alvamar Hills, in Lawrence, Kansas. I was playing with my brother-in-law. We hit balls before we teed off, and I can remember telling him that I wasn't hitting it well. I proceeded to go out and shoot 66 (-6) on a pretty difficult course. I had 4 birdies, 2 eagles, and 2 bogies. Both of the bogies were 3-putts or it could have been a 64.
  18. I play to a 3, currently. I'm usually anywhere from 0-3 depending on how much I play. As far as how long it took, I was shooting in the high 70's the second year I played. That is not the norm, but my father was a scratch golfer, so I had good genes... :)
  19. I play a draw, so for me, I would say usually anything more than 10-15 yards with a driver is a hook. When I'm on my draw is between 5-10 yards.
  20. It doesn't really matter how far you hit it, as long as you know where it's going. It's a scoring club, so concentrate on a smooth swing and learning exactly how far you carry it in the air. You'll be a lot more accurate and it will become a weapon for you.
  21. My dad was a scratch golfer, so from the time I started getting decent I always wanted to beat him. Even after I got to where I was shooting in the 70's, I would never seem to play well with him. I was always trying to hard. Well, finally I beat him one day and he handed me a little trophy that he had been saving for that day. He knew the day would come, but he never took it easy on me. He made me earn it. That little trophy meant a lot to me because of all the hard work I had put into my game. I learned a lot about golf from him, and most of it was without him speaking a word.
  22. It definitely comes down to what's most comfortable to the individual. I've played with a guy before who gripped the club cross-hand, and he could shoot in the 70's. I wouldn't suggest that to anyone, but it worked for him.
  23. I've always heard that the interlock grip was for people with smaller hands. I used it when I was younger, but once my hands got to a certain size, I switched to the overlap.
  24. I remember back when I was in High School, I played in a 3-Club tournament. Our local town had a golf association that would throw different kinds of tournaments throughout the year. The 3-Club tourney was a tough one. With 5 clubs, I think I could shoot close to my usual score.
  25. I agree about the practice, though I don't practice or play that much. My key is rhythm & timing. I've only averaged about 8-10 rounds the past few years, but I still shoot around par. I believe it's because I've honed my swing to where I know it, and I just concentrate on my rhythm & timing. You have to have a repeatable swing that you can count on, and that only comes through practice.
