Comprehensive Camera for Filming your Golf Swing Thread
onephenom replied to Harmonious's topic in Golf Talk
does anyone know of a good cellphone adapter tripod that is more than ten inches tall? can't afford a good camera but my cell has 30 fps which I suppose will have to do for now... but I can't find a cheap way to get a tripod that is tall enough and can use my cell. -
Never seen someone so excited to make a video... I don't think about my thumb... I guess I'm closer to long now that I think about it. But I have almost no flexibilty in my wrist so I can't make it "oily" and over cock.

Suggestions to help me make it onto the Champions Tour?!?
onephenom replied to persistent pete's topic in Golf Talk
Other posts of his have the same effect on me... -
I could never buy a visor, I think that's before my generation :) I like the first hat you showed. It would look nice with TST logo on it.

Agreed. Plus stretching out before, or at least hitting a few balls to relax before the first hole. I try to simulate the beginning of a round at the range to loosen up by playing a few imaginary holes. For example, I picture a hole. Dogleg left, don't have the distance to get it around, swing the 3w. PIck target... if I shape the shot correctly then I get to hit my 7i in. If I miss right, guess i have a 5i to reach that back pin. hit a pitch, putt an imaginary ball. I'll do that a few times to make the first hole seem like it's just the next hole on a 21 hole course. As to changing swing, no. I Know what causes a certain miss in my swing, So I know what I did wrong, and I make sure I don't do it again... not really changing but correcting.

I take golf very seriously, so it's a big deal to me when I mes up. That is, upset for about 1 sec, then I let a "golly gee" "hoo nelly" then I convince myself someone moved the ball or the club is messed up and I have no anger problems after that. Gotta trust the swing! But I do smile hearing the expetives from somehwere else on the course.

The Dan Plan - 10,000 Hours to Become a Pro Golfer (Dan McLaughlin)
onephenom replied to Jonnydanger81's topic in Golf Talk
Well, that is a pretty convincing video. Pretty huge gain in distance, hitting it in 100 degree weather 50 yards downhill slope and 20 mph downwind. Some very interesting comments here... "just because they are on tour doesn't mean they know what they are doing"... it's ike saying just because lebron is a pro bball player doesn't mean he knows how to play ball... just because warren buffett is wildly rich doesn't mean he knows how to make money.... huh? And I would love to see you completely revamp a professionals swing in two hours and add 80 yards. That would be incredible!!! Back on topic... I still think it can be done. But I don't think he is training correctly.... hours of short game practice every day should have better results. I think he needs to, regardless of what soontourpro says, he needs to adjust the technique. Phil mickelsons short game video is super helpful. The pitching videos here are really helpful... using those techniques (which are extremely similar) with the amount of time he practices should leave to professional quality short game. I'm not sure what thread it was, but erik's thread about practice amount says the same thing... the putting stroke is pretty simple. Pitching motion is pretty similar, just need to learn how to set up differently and how far back to take the swing to hit the right distance and what club to use. So I don't see why his putting and pitching isn't better. The swing... that's the fu&&&&&&&&&ing; hard part. -
When should you take a golf lesson?
onephenom replied to Armygolfer4life's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Not sure I understand your point... and I think your comment about iacas preserving his career was more condescending than anything he said being arrogant. Other than that, I'm not sure why you wouldn't want input from someone else who has spent a ton of time learning about the swing. If it's the "teacher" part that bothers you, I understand that. I like to think I can teach myself everything. But as someone who knows a lot about the swing, a lesson is more like getting someone else's point of view, rather than being told what to do. Sometimes talking to a swing-educated person about the swing can help me understand or "epiphany" me to something new about the swing. Just my two cents. Working together with someone never hurt. -
turning the shoulders keeps the hands in front of the club head... and accelerates the clubhead. Like gd said... all about the speed!

Congrats on all the improvements! Backswing looks great. with regards to having trouble with the arms not coming down on the downswing... I've had a lot of trouble with that, recently worked it out. My back swing is very connected with my lead arm angle with the shoulders not becoming more narrow... and at 90* degree turn, I feel like my arms and hands "let go" and the lower body takes over, and my arms fall into position. Also, as others have noted, the weight seems to be messed up a bit. Your weight looks like it's well on your left side, causing you to tilt away from the target, when the weight should be more even. Your post 5sk school impact position is near professional like! Good job

Gimme Your Best Story While Golfing With Your Significant Other
onephenom replied to Mulligan Jeff's topic in Golf Talk
The other day, my lady friend was really excited to come out with me... didn't want to play, just drive the cart and watch me. She was soooo excited. About 5 or 6 holes in.... she's in the passenger seat playing games on my phone and complaining that it was cold until I finished playing. At least she stuck it out! -

onephenom replied to persistent pete's topic in Golf Talk
what david in fl said..... plus play a toooooon. Groove your swing to a point where you don't need to make any major changes, and then play every course as much as you can. Play on different courses with different grass, different shot shapes... play with as many people you don't know to. Get used to playing with someone new to make sure you won't get nervous (at least, not as nervous) as in a tournament setting. I would read sports psychology books and learn how to deal with pressure. I'd say the difference between the average web.com tour player and an average pga player is the ability to hit the shot when it most counts... they are all great players! Everyone can hit Tiger like shots at the range... gotta take it to the course. -
I don't know where the thread is on here, but pro golfers hit the driver about 1 degree down, rather than the common belief of hitting the bowl up. Basically, all that should change is the setup. Wider stance, tilt a bit back, and hit it like a 8i, not like you need to hit a 400 yard drive. Same smooth wing as any other club.

When should you take a golf lesson?
onephenom replied to Armygolfer4life's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Not of the answers work for me. My answer is "right away, when you find someone who actually knows how to teach and understanding how a golf swing actually works" no one nearby can do that, which is why I don't take lessons... -
Clearly, you get it. Sorry for expecting you to act as a decent person, I suppose I am done trying to let you know how much of an @$$hole you portray yourself as, clearly you are nothing more than an internet troll with nothing better to do than try to frustrate people. Must not be much to do wherever you are. Again, I apologize. I should have understood that you are above us all, because you lack human decency and social understanding. To everyone else, sorry. I've gotten a bit frustrated. I'm really not this harsh irl (in real life)!

I see that a lot of people say that the follow through doesn't matter, I assume in response to what I said. The follow through doesn't affect impact. It reflects impact. A follow through like arnold palmer vs a guy like phil doesn't matter. They both reflect good swings. Focus on what causes a good follow through, not the follow through itself. I just don't see the point in trying to have a nice looking follow through... a really fat shot and a really thin shot can have a beautiful follow thru
-
Yep. Especially funny coming after he said "i bet your swing isn't half as sound as mine"
-
I had the same problem this year. I realized I wasn't taking divots and hitting it then because when I addressed the ball, I set up with way too much weight forward towards the target. As soon as I changed my setup I took divots and stopped hitting thin. Of course, the answer you'll get to a question like this is... start a thread in My Swing and let us see it!

How to hit wedges low into a green?
onephenom replied to Jakester23's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
A shot from 100 yards out...would have to play a punch with some spin, as though you were hitting from under a tree. I would probably play a 6 or 7 half swing knock down shot to keep it low enough -
Maybe they'll freeze the lake at the masters! would make the water skipping par 3 very exciting. Cool shot btw... talk about a lucky bounce :)
-
HA! All you've been doing is belittling everyone else! Sounds like pot calling the kettle black... except the kettle is white. I don't think anyone wants to help you, because all you do is treat everyone here like an idiot... like assuming gwlee7's swing is worse than yours because he doesn't like the way you act like a child.
-
You can bottom out after. It just means you don't have enough lag, not necessarily no lag. Enough to hit it far and high, not enough lag to hit it and get enough back spin to have more control.
-
A little bit longer. If you make solid contact and the only problem is that it's going very high, then it's probably the wrists closing a tad bit soon. So yes, hold the wrists, arms, hands, etc solis through impact, but not by feeling like the wrists don't close, by feeling the arms continuing to move

What muscles make you drive the ball further?
onephenom replied to redhotchlypeppr's topic in Golf Talk
Yep, that's all I mean. Sorry I came off rude. I imagine your hips and leg strength would send john Daly's drive 200 yards, but with your smaller size, it works. -
You're talking like being a professional automatically disqualifies one for giving advice. Someone is qualified to give advice when they spend a ton of time learning about the swing, analyzing swings, learning the physics of the swing, learning how to teach all that, etc. That's when you're qualified.
