Since marijuana is legal in WA state (i think) is there any prohibition on US Open players smoking/using the stuff, either on or off the course? And since this is not a PGA tourney, what are the rules guiding 'drug' use at the Open?

Having trouble hitting hybrid off a tee
joekelly replied to SoundandFury's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I trick myself by making a small mound of sand or dirt and put the ball on that, on the tee box only. Then hit the hybrid. Looks more realistic, and ultra traditional. Might work for others. -
Have found only a small relationship between putting practice and putting for real. On the practice green, i'm great. On the course, not. Something in the mind, some uncertainty or excess mental activity which tightens up my hands and forearms.

I'm going with some International, probably from EU. Y? More familiar with strange lay-outs, weird fairway bumps and pot bunkers, putting from 40 yards off green, familiar with tee shots with can't -be- seen landing zones....etc. Who? Some Frenchy, maybe VDubuisson. He looks good on the screen and he's not too talkative (my favorite kind of guy).

Hmm. Rayong, Thailand. Isn't that next to Pattaya, the 'R&R;' capital of T'land. This bloke's on the sauce way too early in the day.

Question on "Grounds under repair" or something like that
joekelly replied to WatchOutLeft's topic in Rules of Golf
Ah, Julia. You must learn to use your foot. Bending over and picking the ball tells everyone what is going on. -
Balls with the highest visibility
joekelly replied to logo's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Some new colored balls have a cover which does not accept a marker pen easily, thus ID marks not so good. And if you have many flowering trees, with orange flowers all over the ground beneath, you will search a long time for the orange ball. Of course, that holds true with white balls and white flowers. I played a yellow TourStage today. Compared to white, much more visible in the sky and on the ground. -
Did not Tiger Woods putt a ball that went past the hole and into the water? He did as Turtleback advised and reputted from original spot. Google tells me this happened 2005 Masters first round 13th hole.

Despite tornados in Chicago prior to game, Madison Ave filled with Blackhawk fans who joyously watch the Lightning fail to score and the Hawks pot two goals. As they skate around the arena with Stanley Cup lifted high, the Blackhawks fulfill their destiny. A great series, a great total playoff by everyone.

On the green, over the ball mark, the caddy stands with the putter and makes a practice stroke along the putting line. From behind, the golfer watches. Then they swap positions, the caddy moves away, the ball replaced and the putt made. Now that would be unusual to see on the TV. And, as far as i can tell, perfectly legal.

"Follow the dots: It's impossible to tell where the fairways end and the greens begin so the USGA has painted little white dots as the demarcation. That way, players know when they can pick up and mark their ball." From recent pix, looks like the fairways are brown, hope not the greens too.

Sorry to bother, but what is the lowest total score ever recorded in a Major?

From what i gather here, if you, Julia, had said nothing on the tee box and simply hit the second ball, then no problems could arise. Except that after second swing, lying 3. Possible also, as you say, that declaring first ball 'unplayable' (in fact, unseen) would also be fine. I wonder if i would ever make such a call without searching.

Blackhawks win game 5, now lead 3 games to 2 games. Next up Monday night in Chicago for game 6,( the final game of this series?) Would love to go but standing room ticket about $1000, airfare $1500, lodging/food etc, $1500 = 100 rounds of golf. Guess what? I'm watching on TV. Go Hawks !!

Yeah, great weather in Ireland = temps > 45* F, and drizzle only. Enjoy the chowder !!

Was concerned of not hearing about Gainey (2 gloves) on the leaderboard so i checked out the PGA website. Won't be retuning there anytime soon. Very bad IMO. Front page leaderboard does not even give scores, only miles behind. I'm not so good at arithmetic so don't need to do the math, but would like to see it Gainey, or anyone, shot 71, 76 or 83; not 7, 12 or 25 behind. And it's good that FedEx has deep pockets coz this tourney is on it's way out.

Umm, Boggie. Do you have personal knowledge of GN and his personality outside of the media? Unless you are his ex brother in law, how can anyone know if he 'constantly talks about himself'? Someone here, maybe Mike, told of his (Mike's) personal contacts with Phil M, so perhaps you have more than hearsay to offer. I think GN had terrific ability, did not hear the voice of humility. I like his clothing gear, and look for it only in the second hand shops. And regarding TV announcers, if you guys get the chance, tune into a Euro Tour event. Those commentators are real golfers, discrete, terse and precise. And, praise be, know how to keep the mouth shut.

I'm for Gainey, who wears 2 gloves. Same as me, maybe for different reasons though. Everyone else....yawnnnnnnnnnnnnn.

Seems odd that the group which tees off Thurs in the morning, then tees off Friday in the afternoon. But the group that tees off Thursday afternoon, then tees off Friday morning. One guy gets a long rest but the other is rushed.

In Asia, all golfers MUST have a caddy; it's not your choice. Very few exceptions. If you can afford golf, you can afford the caddy. Whether any particular caddy helps you on the green read, that's up to you. But caddy pulls the trolley, marks the ball, cleans the club, rakes the sand, offers the water to drink, marks the card, gives compliment of good shots, etc. Saves some time. 18 holes gives a day's wages to most caddies. Caddies mostly women, some are good looking 20 yr olds who appeal to the retired blokes. Conversations? Usually only if you can handle the local language with fluency.

How To Improve My Handicap in 21 Days...
joekelly replied to Jameson's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Some other poster asked a Q about Ben Hogan. I had Ben's book at hand and quoted Ben thusly : "It is extremely important to keep the elbows and the arms as close together as possible." Next day i had those same thoughts in my mind and I COULD NOT BELIEVE THE DIFFERENCE IN BALL STRIKING. Not one slice, straight drives and +20 yards. Where had Ben been all my life? I think this technique kept me from going OTT, and that kept me on plane. Have a great round. -
The monetary damages are debatable. $900K or $200 is not the issue here. WHO is responsible for the injury? Was the injury an Act of God or was it caused by some human through design, negligence or simple stupidity? I have found that there is only one way to make people pay attention to their careless ways-take their money. Some may recall the chap who bought the 'new' Volvo. He paid $40K and expected a new car. But Volvo dealer had repainted the car and never told him. No mileage, just new paint. Chap sued and won $5M. Do you think Volvo will be doing that again? The bad golfer is liable for the injury. The damages will be decided by judge or jury. NO question in my mind. And this is the correct, and responsible, position.
