  1. So Pros aren't above blaming their crap play on something unrelated.
  2. For what it's worth Im sure Rocco would laugh and agree.
  3. Probably 110 and down. I'm pretty confident with my 8 iron, but not totally sold, so I say 9 iron and down and I'm very sure I can do it.
  4. 59-56-55. I haven't been playing much lately because of lacrosse and I've completely lost my drive. I had a perfect iron game and didn't get it back towards the end of the second 9. Also, the greens were really inconsistent and a lack of rain made them like concrete. I swear you tapped it and it rolled off the green.
  5. A lot of the golfers I know seem to be independent but lean republican.
  6. I used to go to a public school on long island. I remember that I had a teacher that was 28-35 and making over 100k per year. It was a top public school and he was the highest paid, but it's still pretty crazy for a teacher to make 100k, and I think it says something about how the value of 100 thousand has gone way down. I mean, you can't seem to buy a house in a good area (location, etc.) for less than 250k.
  7. Two kids from my school played the Honda Classic pro-am on monday and were in a group with him. As a side note, the director paid the entrance fee for top high school players from the area with a lot of hype around them and intentionally put them with him, I guess to build up hype or something. Anyways, they were shocked with how short he was, especially when he outdrove one of them(6'1) pretty consistently. That said, they weren't impressed. Everyone in the group was able to stay very close to him in score, and the two I know said he is not ready for the tour at all. I've also been hearing a lot about his great personality, but he is apparently very strange. His parents, himself, and his sponsors have tried to make him out to seem like a somewhat normal teenager- focusing on school, etc., but his life is devoted to golf. They said he was nice and everything, but he definitely wasn't a normal teenager socially. Based on what they told me, it doesn't sound like he needs the money at all, but he actually thinks he can compete. There is little to no way he can do this when he can barely squeak by junior golfers.
  8. My goals: Make Varsity golf team (unlikely, it is sort of one of Jack Nicklaus's pet projects so the kids are amazing) Make JV golf team (if I can't make varsity) Play bogey golf over 9 holes (45 or less, already have a 47 and 46) Shoot under 100 consistently Shoot under 90 Improve short game (this is what I'll need to do to do most of my goals)
  9. It's a real problem. I've had to get my own driving range with enough distance, and the only time I can use my driver is about a half swing. I'm starting to take tips from 30 handicappers so I can shorten it out a bit.
  10. My club has men's ratings for all tees. I shoot very low 100s (usually 100-104), so I suppose I could (and maybe should) move up, but I'd feel less manly
  11. I found a calculator that was really basic, just rating, slope, and score over 18, then entered my last 20 or so rounds off of the top of my head (for the most part) as best as I could.
  12. In the pro shop at my club I always see what looks like putters with an angled face, are those pinseekers? It seems like you could only use those off of the fringe.
  13. I think that these are the rules as far as GOLF (not normal) sandals are concerned Anywhere in a private club as a member: No Private club as a guest, nonpaying member (e.g. you're only a member because you're grandpa is a member and there is a program in place): Absolutely not Public course: Yes, but not great Public course twilight golfing: Perfectly fine.
  14. Well clearly the club isn't returning the favor to him, and what really would get to me is the pro trying to guilt me into staying. Doesn't sound too classy to me, no offense.
  15. I can't believe someone actually had the nerve to say something like that to you. More reason to switch, in my opinion. Club loyalty? Please, you're paying 10-20k and they won't even make hotel reservations, then have the nerve to call you a traitor? Besides, I've never heard of "club loyalty" what have they done for you that deserves your loyalty, apparently nothing.
  16. I'd be over with my driver. I hit my driver 600 yards. Every time.
  17. You may win the lottery, go to a party, meet a member, become great friends, get invited, then become a member. Yeah, that will probably never happen Smuggle a club and golf ball into the nationals. Then, from the sidelines, hit a ball onto the fairway towards the hole. That's probably the best chance you'll ever get of playing at Augusta.
  18. Congrats! I'm guessing you play on a hard course and/or on the golds. After maybe a month of playing when I had finally figured my drive out, I got lucky with a great 7 wood shot right next to the whole after a good drive. That was my first birdie. Then I've birdied a few par 3s. Very exciting, though, great job! Speaking of firsts, I've been playing for about a year and 3 months and I finally shot under 100 three days ago. Because golf makes no sense, I wasn't playing anywhere near my best, yet I got my best score (99). Actually, I would've had it a few weeks earlier but we had to leave early. Then yesterday I got my worst score (55) in months on the front 9 of my home course, but got my best score ever on the back 9 (46). It's so weird, the back 9 is extremely difficult, much more than the front, yet because the greens are easier I always get better scores.
  19. The purpose of a lob wedge is not distance, it's for spin and accuracy on short shots. I'd rather hit a lob wedge 60 yards than 90...
  20. Could've fooled me and just about every other person I've ever played with (not that any have been that good). I know a near scratch golfer that hits 240 yards from the golds, and I know someone being recruited by just about every school for golf who can only hit it 260 or so.
  21. No doubt in my mind that I could play without the driver, in fact, I sometimes find myself hitting my 3 wood farther than my drive, especially if the 3 wood is a line drive. I like drivers because they're the most fun to hit, and can give you an advantage on a hole. Sure they're overhyped, but to me it's still one of the if not the most fun club to hit.
  22. Does he have a favorite sports team? They sell gift sets that can include some balls with the logo, some towels, ball holders, etc.
  23. Ahh! Peer Pressure! I don't smoke, but my dad used to all the time and I've grown to like the smell somewhat. Therefore, I don't mind the smell unless it's really strong. If it's really strong then it will literally make my eyes tear, which is no fun at all. The thing I can't stand is cigarettes on the golf course. My dad recently quit, so I don't have to deal with it anymore (just text messaging and going on the internet with his stupid iphone, something I also need to deal with while he is driving...), but even if someone just finished teeing off you can smell it. The worst smelling cigarette is by far Parliament, I mean at least Marlboros smell like tobacco! If you smoke Parliaments, PLEASE don't smoke them on the course! A little Off topic, but my dad has a gigantic humidor with at least 250 cigars (mostly cuban) in it. He almost never smoked, and recently has done so less and less. Now he has quit smoking. So now we just have this humidor filled with cigars for decaration. Oh, and I remember as a kid (6ish) he'd take me with him to the cigar store when he'd buy the cubans. I never realized what was going on at the time, but now I think it's awesome that I saw that for some reason. I also remember a time when we were about to go into a hockey game and he decided to smoke in the car. I didn't want to leave alone (I was very young), especially since it was freezing out). So with closed windows, he lights up, and I'm begging him to stop and I'm coughing up a lung, but he tells me to suck it up. So yeah, I have some good experiences and some traumatic experiences with cigars, ha!
  24. The wings are hardly deep. They have one great offensive line, a decent offensive line, and after that there is virtually 0 scoring. I'd contend that the Red Wings can and do give Zetterberg as much icetime as Crosby, if not more, since Crosby and Malkin now often play on different lines. Vinny probably gets the most though, I mean there is Richards, but even the first line has a no name on it.
  25. I know, the amount of football coverage is way too low. The 15 hours a day devoted to it on various networks is not nearly enough! I realize what you are saying, and it sucks, but Football fans hardly have the right to complain about a lack of coverage. By the way, I have a friend whose family owns the Steelers (Rooney), so I now root against them so I can bug him when they lose :D.
