  1. Loved it. I carry 4 wedges. I'm not a straight back and through putter, but I learned tons about the game in that book.
  2. Is your swing flatter than Sergio's? Unless you're swinging it below hip high, I'm not clear that a flat plane is the issue. Can you consider a different grip for the driver? It is a very different club considering you always hit up and off a tee. Typically, I see the hands slowing through the impact zone being the main culprit in hook swings. As the hands slow, the club face closes delivering a left to left ball flight. Also, if you've got your thumb on the top of the shaft as part of that strong grip, that can create timing problems.
  3. My guess is that you're dipping during your swing. It sometimes is an unconscious action that you don't do during your practice swings.
  4. Nice troll. Rating is 6/10, should be able to hook someone.
  5. Sounds great - stick with it! Have fun! jg
  6. I think of tempo - relax and don't rush it.
  7. For me, it totally depends on the sand. Soft fluffy sand means an open face. Firm sand means closed clubface. On firm sand, an open club face can bounce creating an opportunity to skull. BTW, just for clarification, for an open face, the clubface should point at the target, but the swing is left of the target.
  8. Adam Scott has a great life - rich beyond our wildest dreams, does exactly what he wants, so why would he need to grind every day to make his game even better? This is what makes Tiger so special. The only thing that motivates him is to be the best player to ever play the game. And in light of that, Adam Scott may think, "why should I bother?"
  9. I would tell every player, if they think they might spend the rest of their life playing golf, to spend $1,000 on lessons. In fact, I wouldn't hit a ball during your formative period without having a coach (PGA pro) provide feedback. I'm an index of 8, but I could have gotten way better, way sooner, if I had taken lesson early. Reminder: 200 buckets of balls equals the insight gained in 1 lesson. It isn't an intuitive game, so the self learning curve is unbelievably steep.
  10. I have a red shirt that I bought for a club event. I'm always a little sheepish to wear that shirt because of the TW issue.
  11. You're on the right track. You've got an athletic swing and good flexibility, and as soon as you can get it on plane, you'll be hitting it straighter and longer.
  12. My guess is that you've lost a little bit of fun in your golf. Shooting 6 over while the others are a dozen strokes higher requires much more concentration than shooting a good score with other players of the same caliber. I'd say you're going to have to choose, shoot good scores or have fun. I guess you'll know my answer by my signature... Have fun, Jon
  13. 45. In 95 degree heat walking. I wanted to get 3 full rounds, but couldn't get'r done.
  14. Wow, such vehemence. Probably just a troll, but I'll take a bite. Yeah, he's more talented, rich, good looking, etc. than I (and 99.9% of the world) will ever be, but he loves golf, just like all of us here. He knows the elation when you pure a shot and feels the frustration after playing poorly. If he wants to make golf cool, than I'm on his side, not on the side of a seemingly bitter golf crony. BTW, his real name is "Justin Randall Timberlake". Have fun, JG
  15. "Go off first" isn't my tip, it's just a tip I found in a search and doesn't really impact pace of play for anyone except yourself.
  16. I'm with you, Geezer. I enjoyed watching her get pumped up and angry. Muy Caliente! Seriously, her caddy should know that Paula getting angry and negative is her way of playing her best. He's paid to take that abuse and deflect the blame for bad shots away from his player. This isn't a "niceness" contest, it's professional sports. They're both trying to make a living. Her attitude is irrelevant. If that attitude brings her down, then she should change, but not because viewers don't think it's "nice".
  17. Simulating the pressure you feel in tournament play or a money game can be tough to do. At the course today, with sunlight fading, I got to an approach where I had to cover water. So, I invented a drill to simulate the pressure of a tournament. I had 5 balls that I practice with, all Pro v1s that I used up in previous rounds. I use them for chipping and other practice and even though they're used, I certainly didn't want to lose them. For the drill, I said that I had to hit all 5 balls at the green, starting at 140 yards. I would have to cover at least 115 yards to cover the water. If I put it in the water, then I had to move back 10 yds. If I landed on the green, then I could move up 10 yards. And if I covered without hitting the green, then I had to hit again from the same place. So, the possibility was I could miss the first, then have to move backward! Let me tell you, that was some pressure knowing I could lose a ball and then have to go back 10 yds to hit another. It really made me slow down and focus. As for my results, I lost my second ball and had to move back to 140yds, but hit the others solid and on the green. Have fun, JonnyGolf
  18. I want to get as close as possible. I feel like I can get up and down from inside 50yds from almost anywhere. As long as there isn't OB, I'm going to knock it up there as close as possible, even using my driver off the deck.
  19. "Pace of play". Often a curse word on Saturday afternoon when you're 14 holes into a 5 and 1/2 hour round. I don't think the average tips would even make a dent into improving pace of play. Here's some real tips to speed up pace of play. And I'm looking forward to your comments! 1) Get to the ball. Often times, you see the pros almost runniing to their ball after their tee shot. They want as much time as possible over the ball to determine their shot and don't want to get put on the clock. I agree. If I want 12 practice swings because of a tough lie, I can still do it without slowing play as long as I get to my ball quickly. Somehow, everyone has decided that golf is a sedentary sport, when a very brisk walk (think doubletime march) to your ball is just what we need to improve our health and speed up the game. 2) Pick it up If you're at your ESC score, or without hope of beating it, pick it up. For me, I'm done at a double. If I've blown up a hole, I'm playing caddy. For me, I've already lost my focus knowing that I'm posting a double, so there's no point in continuing. 3) Nevermind the "etiquette". Who ever said you couldn't start your walk (safely) to the ball you've blown into the trees prior to your playing partners teeing off? Why can't you proceed to your ball (safely and not in the line of sight of your playing partner) instead of waiting behind them Why can't we decipher our putts when the next up is looking over their putt? Or, even head to the next tee after you've finished the hole. The perceived rules of "etiquette" have slowed the game down to a crawl. 4) Don't play "TV" golf. Looking over the putt from 15 different angles is great when you're playing for a career. For the rest of us, just focus on hitting a solid putt. And the same goes for planning full shot. In summary, I want as much time as I need over a shot. I can do that when I get to the ball quickly and don't conform to perceived rules of etiquette. Just as an FYI here are the semi-worthless typical tips (from a search on "speeding up golf") - Think about joining a golf club that rarely gets crowded - Don't play at a golf course where they let groups larger than 4 play - If you're schedule is flexible you may want to consider playing on a weekday - Find out what the earliest possible tee off time is, even it's the crack of dawn, be the first group there - Check out some golf tips for beginners to improve your confidence in your game. Confidence always speeds things up a little - If your ball goes missing in the rough, don't spend any longer than 3 minutes looking for it - Take 2 practice swing minimum when teeing off - Don't analyze your putts too much, a few moments to look at the slope of the green and to line up is all you need Have fun, JonnyGolf
  20. A hook is generally a better player's mistake. I find that bad hooks are when the player's hands slow down through the impact area (usually a confidence issue) and the club face closes very quickly as you make contact creating a left to left flight. Definitely not an equipment issue.
  21. I've used the prayer style for a long time now. I'm very satisfied with it and my putting is regarded as very good. But, in terms of impact on putting performance, I think grip has very little to do with it. I used to use an oversized grip, but I found that it made me change the face angle when I didn't want to. I think just because it was large, small movements in my hands made big changes in the face angle. So, I ditched it for a regular circumference grip.
  22. I like guys without a filter. They make me feel better about myself! Actually, I like Miller's opinions and his knowledge of the golf swing. And I challenge anyone to fill time in a golf tournament. I also like McCord. And, I'm not sure what Maltbie brings to the table in terms of announcing acumen. He seems like a nice guy and I did read a book of his that I liked, though.
  23. I'd agree here. Best guy at my course has shot 61 with a bogey. Can't get past the 2nd round of tour qualifying, does pretty well on the mini-tours. It was Chi Chi Rodriguez who said if you can't regularly shoot 63 at your home course, you're not ready for the tour.
  24. Here's the list: Tiger's at the top, of course. A stunning $967K/event. Padaig's 2nd with $287K/event with 15 events Vijay's 3rd, which is impressive because he played 23 events so far. Kenny Perry is 5th - the highest $ with 26 events. DJ Trahan is 24th on the money list, but it took 27 events - so 34th in E/E And, at the bottom, for those with more than 10 events... JL Lewis, avg $1688/event (ranked 258th) Tommy Gainey, avg $1,589/event (ranked 258th) I'm not sure JL or Tommy will have positive income this year even after sponsorships!
  25. The GolfChannel describes her entering Q School as a "step backward". http://www.thegolfchannel.com/core.a...0&select;=27249 I think it is a step forward in her (and her parents') understanding that this game isn't given to anybody. I'd really like to start a nationwide trend where anyone who attends a LPGA event where BJ is there, heckles him. If they get kicked out, then the nest person starts up. So, BJ would never be able to attend another LPGA event to continue to screw up his daughter.
