I haven't really played any courses in the area since moving here but I joined up at Star Ranch in Hutto. It's a pretty nice course and the price is right. I also played at Tera Vista. Nice course but not for what they're charging. FYI, Star Ranch has a deal called the Star Players Club. $34 a month gets you unlimited range/practice facility access, free access to all of the clinics, and cheap twilight rates ($12 after 2pm, includes cart). It's on my way home from work so I stop just about everyday to practice my short game. Best money spent golf wise ever for me.

Here's a pic showing the difference between the tour chrome and the black nickel for anyone interested. I prefer the black nickel finish but the tour chrome is very nice also.

I would suggest a 50 degree gap wedge. The pitching wedge in your iron set is a very strong 45 degrees . That's a huge gap to have when you get within a 100 yds or so. Personally, my gap wedge is my go to club around the green. Only times I use my sand or lob wedge is for flop shots that are absolutely neccesary.

I just got rid of my Callaway XTT Xtra-Lite. I just wasn't happy with the strap system and only having 3 full length dividers sucked because I'm fanatical about keeping my grips clean and slightly tacky and they would always stick together and get tangled. I replaced it with a Callaway Warbird Hot. I love the divider system and the bag only weighs a pound or so more than my XTT.

I shot 4 over today..... after 2 holes. I guess I didn't stretch enough and my swing felt funky hitting my warm up bucket. I kept pushing everything right. 3 lost balls right on 2 holes and something finally let go in my lower back on the 3rd hole. Felt like such a loser going back to the clubhouse but didn't want to hurt it anymore trying to push it for another 15 holes.

I went to a range last week that uses Callaway Big Bertha blues. Surprised the hell out of me. My home course uses Precept EV's but most of them are pretty rough.

I pay $34/month for unlimited access to the range and practice facilities, free access to all the group clinics, and $12/16 twilight green fee w/ cart. I actually prefer to play in the afternoon so it saves me a bunch of money plus having unlimited use of the range makes the $34 a month worth it.

The week's not over yet but this afternoon after work, I got to practice with my newly purchased wedges (first time hitting off anything besides carpet in the house). Was very suprised how consistant I was with them (my short game is crap). Right before leaving, I took three balls out to about 40 yds with an est. 25mph cross wind just to see how close I could stick it to the pin. Luckily I had my cell phone with me so was able to snap a pic of my third shot. Can't wait to get more practice with these which is sure to drive my handicap down.

My gamer right now is a Callaway s2h2 blade putter that my dad gave me about 12+ yrs ago. However, someone I used to work with had a cheap AMF (yes, the bowling people) mallet putter with some type of synthetic insert in the face and I was able to get great control with it. I also think the heavier head helped stabalize my putting stroke so I bought one of fleabay for like $7, lol. Figured it's worth a shot and if I like it, I'll buy a quality putter later down the road.

Yeah, that was one thing I forgot to mention in my prior post. I put a set of Pulsars in mine shortly after getting them. I had heard people complaining about the stock spikes but with spikes only being around $10 a set, wasn't a huge factor in my decision to buy them.

Wow, San Diego residents have it good. $43 on the weekend for the north course and $49 for the south. It's hard to play for that cheap here in Austin at the decent courses...
