  1. front 39 - back 56. Had a guy join our two-some at the turn. He was quite the talker....
  2. Thank you for this. I realize I have a long way to go before shaping, but I do play around with it from time to time when practicing....
  3. I would rather watch any sort of Big Break rather than Big Brother or Survivor....
  4. I think someone should scream out, "SCRAMBLED EGGS!!!!!"
  5. The course that I play has twilight rates starting at 4pm - $15 for cart and all you can play. I love it. Things are tough financially right now so I've got to scrimp wherever. I do a lot of practice at home and try to get to the range at least once a week. I also look for stuff that I don't use anymore to sell to add $$$$ to my "golf fund".....does anyone need any fishing gear? Used only once.....
  6. I think you are on the right track. I, personally, just dropped 1.2 off my handicap with these same things. Plus, I keep in mind, not jerking my head up at impact, ball striking, and using alignment rods( thick plastic garden stakes) for aim.
  7. I'd like to see these etched in stone tablets with Arnie standing atop of a mountain holding them like Charlton Heston as Moses in the movie The Ten Commandments......
  8. 08-13-12 - Shot a 90 (117/69.2) The penalty strokes, double bogeys, triple bogeys, and 3 putts are killing me. I was shocked with a 90 because it felt like 190. I can't remember the last time I 3 putted. Had some really good shots where I can see my practice with ball striking coming through. I made some very careless mistakes and let things distract me. Basically my head wasn't in the game very much. I'm gonna play again today, but today I'm gonna take my scorecard from yesterday and review the mistakes so as to not do them again. I can feel a break through about to happen....
  9. I hit a bird while on the driving range. Completely crushed it's head with the ball. My wife now jokes that I got a "birdie" on the driving range......
  10. Getting better at "the hardest game ever" offers a sense of purpose that I don't get from my job.
  11. Well it's been 3 weeks since I last played. I did hit some on the range on Wednesday and I've been practicing my chips and pitches. Shot a 45 on 9 (34.4/ 117) this morning. Wasn't real happy with the double and triple bogey, but I'm not gonna get down. I was happy to just be out. I hit my first tee shot at 6:40am and I must say there was A LOT of dew on the ground and the greens. My driver has not been feeling very comfortable, but what do I expect, I can't really practice on the range much. Think I'm gonna try some of those golf wiffle balls out. The good part was I had 15 putts, the few times I hit a long iron I struck the ball well.
  12. Went to the range yesterday and hit two large baskets of balls, somewhere around 130 balls. I can tell my ball striking is improving a lot. I've been practicing at home with my chips and pitches, focusing mostly on ball striking, as well as using a couple of alignment sticks for accuracy. Looking forward to playing this weekend.
  13. It's been 2 weeks since I've played, shot an 87, and a week since I've swung a club. Having to be at work at 5am, and when I get off at 1pm it's already in the triple digits. Looks like I'm taking a few weeks off until the temps drop back into the mid 90's. Until then I'll be focusing on working out with more golf related exercises. I will be doing some chip shots in the back yard though. I don't want to stop swinging a club completely. Guess I could call this the "off season".....
  14. I play better when it's NOT 105 degrees.....
  15. I am a tee scavenger. At every tee box I scan around and find some people leave behind.
  16. I envy the marathon golfing experience. In the last few weeks it has gone from mid 90 degrees to the 104-105 range with high humidity. By 11 am it's already 90, but feels like it's 95 or better. The boss had us switch hours, starting at 5 am and leaving at 1 pm. By 1 it's over 100*. Plus this makes our checks short on hours, so there goes my golf allowance for the week. This is definitely the "off season". I work in a welding/ fabrication shop, so after being there for 7.5 hours a day, drenched in sweat, I'm not really interested in standing outside for an hour or so hitting balls. The hottest part of our day comes afternoon, lately it's been a consistent 105*, but feels like 110* - 111*. I'm looking forward to mid to late September, the low 90's will feel like a cold front.
  17. Right now I play public, but with the way things are starting to look financially I may be joining a totally private club at the beginning of next year. I have been a member of a club that was semi-private, they had members but let the public play there as well.
  18. Amen to that. My wife and I live in southeast Oklahoma, very humid. We are seriously considering moving to the state of Washington where her parents live. If the temp reaches 80 it's a heat wave.
  19. I appreciate the feedback. Ball striking it is then.
  20. I found the other day when I played there was a couple holes where I gave in to some thoughts of "why don't you try this...". That was the wrong thing to do. I'm finding that at the courses I play I have an idea of what I want to do, this is not the place to "try something new", that's what practice is for. I'm sure I could have saved myself a few strokes had I not given in to those thoughts.
  21. Are you putting me down for being a 20hc? I'll take your advice on ball striking though.
  22. I have yet to do this, but it seems to be a good idea to me considering scorecard maps can be kind of vague. Any suggestions?
  23. I grew up in atlanta, sandy springs to be exact. I live in Oklahoma now. This past Saturday I started at 8:30am and by the time I finished it was 104. I find it real hard to get motivated to practice when the temp is in the upper 90's.
  24. We don't have tee times where I play. I do plan on playing at courses where they do and my plan is to show up early enough to drive around the course, taking notes on the holes so as to get a plan of course management. Then I'll hit a small bucket to warm up, do some putting. Then it's game on.
  25. I admit that the more I learn what my "game" is, the more mental fortitude I get. When I speak of my "game", I'm referring to the plan of action on the course or better yet, course management. This is just how I approach a round. If I walk on the first tee with no kind of plan of action other than to just hit a ball, I feel I set myself up for disaster.
