  1. I have the same three wood, and have had the same problem, I hit the 5w well of the deck, but the 3w gives me a lot of problems from there. Somebody recommended the Titleist 906f4, and I hit that at golfsmith yesterday. Obviously I couldn't tell how well the ball flight was as I was indoors, but it seemed very easy to get up, and according to the launch monitor I was hitting it pretty well. Going to check with the pro at my course and see if I can take one out for a spin and see if I get good results when the ball isn't flying into a net after 15ft. I also hit the ping g10 and liked it. Not sure about any of the older models.
  2. I have to go with the chunked chip. You are so close to the whole, just get it up, let it roll ou a little, and you are left with a gimme put. Then you hit behind the ball and don't even get it on the green, so you are left with the almost exact same shot.
  3. Started playing Spring 2006 at 25 to try and get decent for a work trip (a great trip). I immediately got hooked as it is a game that is between you and the course (or more accurately between you and yourself), a game in its purest form. In 2007 got my first official handicap, started at a 29 and ended the year as a 19. If I get half that much improvement this year I will be thrilled!
  4. My buddy, who is much better then me hit my mizuno's and wanted set. He wanted blades, and was trying to find the mp33s, which is what I believe the 100s are most similar to. He ended up finding the 100s for about 850 I think, so he picked them up. They come with a case and certificate of authenticity, but he plays with them, and could care less about the case. He says they play better then they look, I know I couldn't hit them with any kind of consistency.
  5. For the bogey golfer (I am a 19 so I rounded down) I don't hit mine too often because I don't use it off the tee and I don't have a lot of longer holes that I am going into off the fairway. it used to be my driver until I decided I was good enough to hit a driver, not sure if I had that call right. Usually if I have a longer shot off the turf or a short par 4 I go with my five wood because I launch it a little higher. It is easier to hit with a little shorter shaft and a little smaller head. not sure what the distance is, but the 3w is good for when I want to hit a lower shot that has more of a chance to run. Again, this is coming from a 19 that hasn't been striking the ball very well even by my low standards....
  6. I use my sand wedge, a 56 degree Cleveland CG10 with medium bounce for pretty much everything 85 and in. Chips, pitches, out of the sand everything. I might use and 8 or 9 iron to do some bump and runs if I need to get it under a tree or something. Only problem is the grooves are really starting to wear because it is the club I practice the most with too. I bought a spin milled vokey 56 deg 10 bounce, but am afraid to take the cg10 out of the bag! I have read alot of things about usig different clubs to make all the shots, but I really like being able to use this one club to make all the shots. maybe it is just that club is so versatile.
  7. I had no idea I would start a physics battle, you guys could tell me that because E=MC2 then I should be hitting the ball farthur in cold weather and I would have no argument for you. really appreciate all the feedback!
  8. I think most golfers figure there average drive the same way I used to, they take there longest 10, subtract the hooks or slices drop out any skyballs and the like and use those. I used to think my average was 240, I have now realized that I probably carry the ball about 225 with my driver and with roll I am looking at 235 or so. and that is on a well struck ball. More likely overall average is probably in the 215 range . It is tough to accept that, but when I think about the pop up I hit that went 160 or so, and the one I hooked into the trees... the 215 is probably accurate to optomistic for me. One of the things I learned, was that my handicap started to go down when I started swinging the clubs the distances I could regularly attain instead of the one monster shot I remembered (hitting a PW for 120-125 instead of a GW or SW). my $0.02.
  9. if it isn't too late I would love to beta test the windows version, please let me know when it would be available.
  10. I have a 14 way full length divider in my sun mountain mpb bag, so each club has its own special home: on the left side: 4 iron 6 iron 8 iron p Wedge right side: 5 iron 7 iron 9 iron g wedge down the middle Driver, 3w 3h, 5w open S wedge external holster for the putter and yes I get annoyed if someone else takes out a club and puts it back in the wrong spot (or worse yet with another club! )
  11. my goals for this year: 1. Practice more, on the range and on 100 yards in. 2. Get consistant with my swing. My short game is usually pretty steady, but I can go through some serious funks with my swing. If I can pull thes two off then I should be able to work on number 3: Drop Handicap by 6 strokes - (be at a 13 ) Onward and downward!
  12. if the greens are well taken care of then I would want to come back to see if I could do better, isn't that half the point of golf, to improve ? poorly maintained greens, I would just get on gone and not come back.
  13. I agree it was a joke, but how stupid do you have to be? I first found out about the comment online, and then later saw the clip of her saying it. When I read it, it can most definately come across as racist, watching the clip it is plain to see she is joking. Not sure if she should be suspended (I wouldn't do it, but if TGC doesn't, do they end up getting some backlash from other groups?) but in the wake of all the other race scandals that have occured in the not so distant past you would think a TV personality would have the common sense not to to use "lynching" in referance to a black man. Oh well, I wouldn't last 5 minutes on TV without saying something stupid/inappropriate...
  14. I have been figuring I am about 1 and a half clubs shorter (a normal 7 I am playing as about strong 6 or easy 5). thanks for the feedback.
  15. I have always heard a few anecdotes about how the temperature affects the distance you will hit the ball. like 20 degrees = about 1 club. I have tried something new with my swing and am currently getting out and playing in the low 40s, and would like to try and figure what my distances might translate to playing this summer. Does anybody have any better way to judge or any opinions? Thanks!
  16. I am, there aren't any other options within about 25 miles. Only a 9 holer, but I paid my annual dues for everthing (this includes 240 for food) and it was 1600. No range, only 9 but some differing tees to play a little different on the back and I can get on whenever I want. Can't complain for that kind of money!
  17. Just warm enough to play this weekend, shot a 91 on saturday and missed two 3 footers yesterday for a 93. Not too bad for 40 degree weather and a 19 handi, can't wait for spring!
  18. Something I read in a golf magazine (not sure which one, I was at the airport trying not to be too bored) was a piece about Padraig Harrington. In it he said that he lifted his left heel off the ground and then dug it in to insure he was hitting into a stiff left side. I have been having problems of ripping my hips through and subsequently been playing from the right side far too often . Trying this method of left foot plant has helped me transfer the weight and to keep my hips from flying open. not sure if that is what people have in mind, but I need it to get warmer so I can see if it is a long term fix.
  19. I can't argue that Tiger probably has more physical ability, but I prefer Jack, maybe because I can relate more to him (height, build, I don't hit my drives 330). Who knows? You can't really go wrong with either one.
