"5 Minutes Daily" Practice Challenge September 2017
Dakota Atkinson replied to iacas's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
9/1 -- Spent about 15 minutes hitting putts on living room floor (hardwood). Laid a couple rods down to try to hone in my alignment and stroke. I have been solid inside 5 feet lately, but haven't sank a decent length putt in the last few rounds... Also took some swings with the swing stick from the Tittle (I use the swing stick frequently, the only thing that product was good for) and read a good chunk of "Golf is Not a Game of Perfect."- 105 replies

Current: Don't really have a stand out favorite player. i like the young guns... especially JT. also a big fan of Henrik Stenson All time: Tiger. I would like to see another top player show the same attitude towards golf that he did... I feel like a few players have similar talent levels that he did, mostly DJ and Rory, but they don't have the same composure/ferocity/killer instinct. Spieth is probably the closest as far as mentality goes.

Looks like your backswing goes pretty far inside, then you kinda come over the top and swing way left. I would would make sure you're gripping the club correctly, then focus on making sure your weight is forward and swing more right. Find a spot out significantly right of where your target is and feel like you're throwing your hands towards it during the swing, see if that helps. Once you starting hitting straight, don't exaggerate it so much, because your body will get used to swinging in-out and then you'll start hitting hooks if you visualize it like that. But it helps me when I am swinging left. As far as keeping weight forward, there's loads of tips/videos/drills on that on here. Key # 2

Obviously the main thing is to keep working on your swing, because there's a lot to work on when you're shooting 110+. But if you're practicing as often as you say you are, you should be able to shed strokes pretty quickly. I just had the same issue as you the other day. I had a great lesson/range session, so I went to play 18. Wasn't hitting that great but I was +1 through 6, so I was stoked. But then I hit a couple really bad shots, lost a lot of confidence, and then all the sudden you start to question your mechanics and it spirals out of control. I ended up shooting an 89. It's very important and very difficult to have the mental toughness to be able to shake off bad shots and not let them affect you, also to stick to your gameplan. Like previously suggested, I actually just purchased Lowest Score Wins the other day. I have been wanting to put together more meaningful range sessions, and carry a better strategy onto the course, and it seems like it's a perfect book for those two tasks. As far as the mental game goes, I also bought an older Bob Rotella book 'Golf Is Not A Game of Perfect' for like $4 based on the suggestion of my chiropractor haha. Pretty excited to receive and read both of them.

Just looked at this.... thankfully my swing has improved a bit over the last 3-4 years. Note: I said in the first post that I shot 88-97.... there is no way that was accurate lol. Now, I am mostly in the 78-85 range. Had a few lessons this year, have seen a lot of improvement but I still have a couple big misses per round that really hurt my score. Misses are usually a hook, occasionally a push. I think my swing looks flat but I don't know the best route to go in making adjustments. My instructor has yet to mention anything about my swing being too flat, or my backswing at all, but looking at my swing on video I think that's where some issues may lie. Thanks in advance for responses!

What Is Your Favorite Movie About Each Sport?

This is very difficult haha... Baseball: Major League Football: Friday Night Lights Basketball: Space Jam Wrestling: Vision Quest Bowling: Kingpin Golf: Happy Gilmore Racing: Talladega Nights Boxing: Rocky IV -
Wouldn't that promote more of an open stance, as a lefty to move your left foot further in front? Just trying to comprehend because this may help me, also. I dealt with hooks and losing balls left a lot during the 2nd half of this year, and I generally have a slightly open stance as a righty. I think one of the big contributors is my grip, I have a very weak grip but every time I try to change it I end up reverting back to it...

Tittle X - Affordable Golf Simulator/Trainer
Dakota Atkinson replied to iacas's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
The swing stick is very attractive, but sounds too good to be true. First, I'm hoping it wouldn't alter my swing too badly. Second, how could it possibly decipher ball-flight results from swinging a weighted 29 inch stick through the air? Regardless, the price is also very attractive, and the swing stick would be very beneficial for me. Living in Iowa, it's pretty much impossible to golf from now until about March, and I've been looking for ways to practice. My apartment ceilings are too low to swing an actual club. This product is affordable and compact enough to where you could use it in your bedroom. Going to back & purchase -

Disappointing finish today, but overall very impressive showing from Tiger so far. Havent heard anything from announcers, but he looks like he's sore/in pain walking around to me. What do you guys think? Any pain whatsoever would have to be a major red flag, right? -
not sure if this has been posted, but i've always thought this was hilarious.

The reason people are impressed with Tiger's showing isn't his score. It's because two months ago he was injured, his short game was as bad as mine, and he was missing cuts and carding 80's. A week ago we didn't think he was even going to play. Then he showed up to Augusta and ended up playing with the world #1 on Sunday and shooting 5 under par. Given the circumstances, I'd say it was a massive success.

kind of a crummy situation, sit through a rain delay to come back and play a soaked 18th hole. then double to lose your 60s bid lol. -
Not going OB on any tee shots, hitting good shots inside 100 yds. Minimal 3 putts

44-42 86, +12. Awesome course, http://www.pleasantvalleyic.com/coursephotos/ Best score of my life so far and felt like I could improve a lot still. Driver was very inconsistent, but had some clutch drives towards the end. Closed out with 4 straight pars after being 6 over thru 5 on the back. 37 putts, 3 ob strokes... Nothing was too special except I hit my irons very well for personal standards and hit 8 GIRs. Last hole was a 370 yard par 4 with water hazard mid-right at about 250 yards, panicked mid swing with 3w and chunked it about 120 yards. Proceeded to smack a perfect hybrid shot to the center of the green and 2 putt par. Was pretty stoked

Golf Glove or No Glove???
Dakota Atkinson replied to ericstamper's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Usually wear one with my driver/irons but I don't think it makes a difference, rough on the hands if I play without one too frequently. Sometimes I'll take it off to putt and forget to put it back on for a few holes -
44/43 87 on par 71... 37 putts 7 Ob tee shots. Thought I finally had my driver figured out, didn't play for 5 days and it went shaky again. Can't sink a putt that's not a tap in lol. Was having a nice back 9 til I triple bogeyed par 3 #17 with no OB strokes... Been a while since I did that

Will Tiger Surpass Jack's Major Total (2014 Edition)
Dakota Atkinson replied to Mulligan Jeff's topic in Tour Talk
Yes, because.. he's Tiger Woods. I am a bit of a Tiger fanboy I suppose, but we've all seen the guy do absolutely incredible things before. Just a year ago he was winning tournaments frequently. Once he's healthy and shakes the rust off, he'll be winning again. I really doubt he'll be as dominant as he used to be, but I think he's still the best player in the world when he's healthy. Undisputably top 5. I feel like once he breaks the wall and gets one, the subsequent majors would be quicker to follow. 15 may be the hardest one for him. -
Tried to take some DTL vids by propping up my iPhone in my bag. First two swings are from last week, second two were this morning where I tried to incorporate Dufner/Hogan/etc. feel of dropping the club and tucking the right elbow on downswing. The last swing was one of the best drives I've ever hit. The two swings from last week were both push and the drive also had a slice to it. Basically just wondering if my swing plane looks correct or not. Realllly trying to fight this push that I always seem to have. I like the tucking elbow feel, I just feel inconsistent with it right now. I'm not real sure how good these videos are, as far as the angle is, I think the first one may be unusable but the others should be at a decent angle, despite low quality on the ones today. Appreciate any tips. Thanks

Yeah, I decided to scrap this whole idea and keep working on fixing my faults with a 'regular' set up. A couple weeks ago I played the best round of my life by really focusing on key #2 and a 4th key video about hitting draws with the driver, and I realized I haven't exaggerated getting my weight forward since. At the range yesterday I noticed when I realllly get my weight forward it kind of forces an in-out path, and I was hitting pretty straight shots. I'm going to try and get a good recording DTL and face on swings next time I'm out and add them to my swing thread. Currently my videos are from crappy angles as my phone was leaning against a gate at the range. Thanks for the advice!

Tried to play with this swing in mind today. Hit the range first, was shooting alright except for a slice with the driver. Went out on the course and it was awful. Lost distance, inconsistent ball striking, and ridiculously bad slices. Called it quits after 5 holes because I lost so many balls. Some other part of my mechanics must've fallen apart. I felt as if I was swinging a bit out to in, then maybe that I was actually swinging too far in to out, I don't know.
