I'm really bad, I have a full set of free weights in the basement that I haven't touched in years. Between the winter, (I live in NY), and COVID I haven't done a damn thing. I really need to get my ass in gear, sitting around all day watching CNN just doesn't get it. Then come spring I'll complain about my lack of distance again. When will I ever learn?

I voted 2 times a week. Most other days I am at the range or playing a little exec course to work on my short game, (I didn't count that as playing).

You're brave, my limit is 40* with no wind.

I don't know if you have pulled the trigger on the Cleveland Launchers yet but if not I would rethink my choice. I have a set and I'm not that impressed, aside from the look which isn't that nice. I found a loss in distance and didn't feel they were easier to hit then a regular set of irons. Now I'm a bit of a club hound and I'm always looking around, especially on eBay. I was fitted by Ping a few years ago and was black dot, (standard lie), no adjustment in length needed, basically off the shelf. I use to play Ping and always liked them, (don't ask me why I ever changed, I don't know). Anyway found a nice set of G25s really cheap, got them regripped and took them to the range yesterday, felt like I was home again. Ping makes a very forgiving club and there are a ton of them out there for sale if you're not looking to buy new, (obviously buying new is good if you can afford it). Just a suggestion.

Unfortunately I leave them on the wet grass, I know it sucks.

I know what you mean, really slows the game down. I usually bring three of four clubs with me given I kind of know the distance.

I just use a 9 wood, 24* loft, Great club for me. So I have a driver, 3W, 5W 7W and a 9W.

Where do You Put the Head Covers During a Shot?
cooke119 replied to StogiesAndBogeys's topic in Golf Talk
I leave my driver and putter head covers home when I play. My fairway covers go in the back of the cart when I use them. -
I've had three back surgeries so I can walk nine but not eighteen. I play better when I walk because I can walk straight to my ball. When I ride I'm always with someone else a lot of the time we search for the other guys ball, then I find it difficult to find my ball, (unless it is in the fairway). but I feel rushed. Have to learn to take my time. I also don't like it when it is cart path only for the carts, makes club selection difficult.

Between the two I haven't played in months. I made it to the range a couple of time, not good, I really need to play again. I guess that is what I get for living in NY. Anyone else feeling the pain?

Well I found a new D7, 13*, senior shaft on Ebay for $199.95 a purchased it. It arrived yesterday, looks nice, as well as my Cobra. I took it to the range today and I must say it felt really good. Ball flight was nice, most of them straight, club performed well. Now I really couldn't tell distance, that will have to wait until I get on the course. It was cold at the range, 46* and windy plus I was hitting range balls. Can't wait to take it out on the course on a nice day and see how it performs in the real environment.

I am 69 years old and have had three back surgeries, needless to say my swing speed is pretty low, 85 MPH on a good day, usually less. I hit my driver pretty straight but have trouble with ball flight, i.e., lack of distance, ball appears to drop out of the sky, strong fade sometimes a slice. My drier is giving so much trouble I have actually been using my 3W instead, driver stays in the bag. I'm currently using a 10.5* loft Cobra. Anyway, searching the web someone recommended that I try the Wilson Staff D7 13* loft with a senior shaft. Any thoughts greatly appreciated. PS, no stores or pro-shops around me carry Wilson Staff in stock to try.

Returning Player With Irons Question
cooke119 replied to ASD Dad's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
So basically you're looking for a new set of clubs, irons then woods, maybe hybrids. IMO you should wait until you get a little more flexible and work on your swing then go get a fitting for a full set, (assuming money is not an issue). I have been fitted many times through the years as my physical condition has changed, (age, three back surgeries, etc., I'm 69 now), and have found each fitting and club selection to be very helpful. I too do not shape the ball, never could, I want straight maybe a little fade, and that is what I have although distance is a problem for me with all my clubs except of course my wedges. That is what I am working on, distance. If you're going to buy a new set of clubs enjoy the search, I would try everything you can get your hands on, talk to more then one fitter, don't forget to bring you current clubs with you to the fittings to judge the gain your getting. Have fun and welcome back to the game -

Vice Golf Balls - Anyone Tried them?
cooke119 replied to tigerrag's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I read the post on Vice balls so I looked them up. I'm an older player, (69 years old), have had three back surgeries so my swing speed is low, 85 with a driver. In reading on the Vice web site I picked the Tour ball anyone in my age group with a low speed speed use them? Your impression? I ordered a dozen to try them out. -
Haven't been on a launch monitor in a while but the last time I read my swing speed, 85 - 87 MPH with a driver, carry was maybe 180 to 200. That was with a M3 driver in the store, not my driver, (I know I should take my driver into the store and compare). I'm using a Cobra F-Max driver which I like. Wind does have an effect on my distance especially when hitting into it, I play new Titleist balls, not Pro V1s. I've tried different balls which for me don't appear to make that much of a difference, except the KIrkland ball, I don't like them. Based on a post here in TST I bought a box of Vice Tour balls, I'm going to try them. I thought maybe I needed a softer compression but I'm not an expert on balls, just what I've researched for people with slow swing speeds. Hmmm, haven't though of that. I'm using a 10.5 degree driver, maybe I should look into a 12 degree driver. I use a standard flex shaft, stock from the factory. I've never played around with different shafts, I know nothing about them. I don't understand kick points, etc. and what they do. Maybe I should go to the PGA Superstore by me and talk with them. I'm using new Titleist balls and still have the problem. You're right my swing may be screwed up but I hit them straight 80% of the time but as I said they just drop out of the sky and I get little roll. Very frustrating.

I'm an older player so my swing speed is not what it use to be, more like 85 MPH with a driver. One thing I have noticed is that when I hit my 3W, or any other wood or long iron, the ball starts out on a nice arch and when it reaches it's peak it appears to just drop out of the sky, I mean like straight down, big loss of yardage. Someone told me I'm putting a lot of backspin on the ball, if that is the case how do I stop that? (I don't think that is the problem though). Any thoughts?

Are Range Balls 15% Shorter?
cooke119 replied to khalespace's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Same here, when I go to the range I don't even look at distance. -
Someone told me long ago that the golf Gods don't hear the word 'don't' so if you say to yourself "don't shank it" you'll shank it, same with going over a sand trap next to a green, "don't hit it in the trap" sure enough you'll hit it in the trap. I have deleted the word 'don't' from my golf vocabulary. I'm 69 years old and have had thee back surgeries so I don't play well anymore and I need clubs that were easy to hit so I bought a set of the Cleveland Launcher HB, 4 through GW. You are correct, they are really easy to hit although I think I lost some distance with them which is OK, I just club up.
-
I have a number of hybrids which I occasionally use but I hit FWs better for some reason so I tried the 9 FW. Funny when I was looking I didn't see any, maybe I didn't search hard enough so I bought from Pine Meadow. I upgraded the shaft from them, feels like a good club, hitting it well.
-
What I have started to do, which works well for me, is instead of a chip with a 50* or a 50* I use a PW with a putter stroke, kind of like a bump and run but not using an 8 iron.

Sculling it across the green from a tight lie or out of a bunker, drives me crazy!

I'll have to look that up. thx
