Ping Karstan Craz-e mallet putter
Leonardite replied to boxcar's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Never played the Craz-e, but I have the C67 karsten and love it. No insert on mine (and I believe all the karsten series) which gives it a different feel, but not a bad feel. Give it a couple of tries, if you don't like it, sell it. -
My buddies and I always joke around that bare feet on greens are the best stimpmeters available.

Thanks for the quick responses.

Anybody have the story behind Luke Donald conceding the match to Ernie Els on Friday? Injury? Getting beat too badly and didn't want a 9 & 8 match score? Anybody got the story? Thanks.

Nebraska / Kansas in March
Leonardite replied to Leonardite's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
Heard about Colbert being a beast, but when its the nicest course in the area and for the winter rates they have I'd have to play it if I was there. No way I would pass it up. Nobody has mentioned Rolling Meadows in Junction City (near Manhattan). I've heard good things about this course. Anybody played it? Opinions? -
Ryan Moore--he is now his own man--no endorsements

I wouldn't want to sponsor him with that ugly hat he wears either, but that is just me. -
Nebraska / Kansas in March
Leonardite replied to Leonardite's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
Thanks for the input and course suggestions. Had checked out Quarry Oaks before but not Iron Horse. Had my eyes on Colbert Hills as well, but after seeing how many courses are in the Omaha area and the prices they offer (usually under 30 for 18 holes) I can't see going all the way down there for the whole trip. May have to sneak down there one day though. I'm sure it's well worth the couple hour drive from the looks of it. -
Hall of Above Average Pro? Absolutely. Hall of Very Good Pro? You can argue that for Kenny. Hall of Fame? Not a chance. The Hall of Fame should be reserved for the best of the best, and shouldn't be diluted. Setting minimums like the 20/2 rule won't work, because what happens when ten of the wins are during the fields that aren't as good as others, and wins shouldn't be the only determinant for a sport like golf. Behavior, off the course behavior, etc should be taken into consideration (as in baseball, not the football HOF that lets in non-character guys). The character aspect comes to mind when he didn't play in the Open last year. My vote is no, don't think it will ever change for Kenny. Like the guy, but Hall of Fame is a little out of his league. Are you really going to mention Kenny Perry when you rattle of names like Arnold, Jack, Tiger, Phil, Vijay, etc? I can't see myself doing this.

Looking to head somewhat south for a week during spring break this year. Being a broke college student, I don't have the money to fly anywhere warm and with only a week off from school and work I don't want to spend too much time in the car. I've kind of settled on Nebraska (mainly Omaha area) and if necessary I'll go into Kansas to get to some golfing weather. What I'm wondering is what can I expect mainly for Course opennings (all of them? most of them? only the crappy ones?) It should be warm enough to play, but I want to make sure courses are going to be open before I go down there. I've contacted some of the courses over the past couple of days and haven't had any responses yet as to when they open or if they are open year round as their websites don't give too much information. Anybody from the Omaha or middle eastern Nebraska have any information that would be useful? Any course suggestions? Should I go further south for more courses to be open? Anybody got anything? Thanks in advance.

The days are getting longer up here in ND as well. The good thing about living up here is during the summer (May-Aug.) the days are extremely long. We are talking golfing by 5:45am at dawn and not finishing until almost 10pm (can barely see by this time). On the downside, we have this stupid season known as winter from November til early April if we are lucky. I think I would trade the long days for year round golf though. Yep, definitely would do that.

Help replacing 3 wood, 5wood, and hybrid.
Leonardite replied to dagolfer's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
An important thing to remember when replacing clubs with hybrids is not to match the loft of the previous club with the hybrid. Get a list of the distances you hit your clubs and fill the gaps with the hybrids, regardless of what degree they may be. -
I'm in a similar situation come summer. My son turns 3 in February and he has plastic clubs and balls that he hits around the house endlessly. I'm hoping to get him out to the putting green and get him a real club and ball and see what he thinks. Hopefully it can remain fun for him, and it can become our father/son time. It'll get me a free pass out of the house and gives me a companion when I'm used to golfing by myself if it pans out well. I would say 3-4 isn't too young to get them out on the course during slow times or just to ride along, but don't push them. Let it be fun, don't worry about any mechanics or even if he/she hits the ball, but try to let them have fun. Last year when my son was 2 1/2 he had more fun pretending to drive the golf cart and running up and down the fairway then he did hitting his practice balls around. I would just try to keep him from hitting anybody with the club, or even worse, hitting him/herself with the club.

What is my Blister trying to tell me?
Leonardite replied to mellojoe's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I would say that you are gripping too high on the club, and you should choke down just slightly. I used to wear holes in my gloves like crazy in that position because I held the club so high in my grip. Now I've choked down, only like 1/4 inch to 3/8 inch and I no longer see the wear on my glove. That is my two cents, take it as you will. -
Self taught. Been golfing for 10 years roughly. Currently 8.6 and playing as good as ever. However, if one day I hit a wall, I would consider lessons.

Looking into the same trip later this summer. I've played Hawktree which is very solid and I've heard nothing but good things about Bully Pulpit, but I'm looking forward to Links of North Dakota most. I've heard really really good things about the Links. As advised by the above poster, bring bug spray (bugs are everywhere in ND) and lots of balls to Bully Pulpit and Hawktree (prairie grass rough).

There are very few courses I don't play the tips from around this area. 7200+ and I try to play the tips to start, if it seems unmanageable (hitting 3wood into a par 4 after hitting a good drive) I will pick and choose "swing holes" where I just go to a forward set if the yardage would be unmanageable. 95+% of the time yardage isn't a problem for me (its chipping and putting). Sort of on topic. I was playing my home course and I played the white tees because the guys I was playing for money wanted to play the whites and I lost 3 balls because I blew drives through fairways that normally would have been fine from the tips. No excuse, I should have hit 3 wood, but when you play a hole 60 times a year (its a 9 hole course) you get into a habit of grabbing the same club without thinking. Needless to say with 3 lost balls off the tees, I didn't win the money game.

Dent is legit... I played this game in high school and shot a 19 as well. All but one are capable of being aced. We would restart if we didn't get an ace, but one hole isn't possible but I don't remember which one without taking the time to play it again. edit: after playing, it is #8 that isn't "aceable". We tried for an entire year in a computer programing class to figure it out. Never could get it, but apparently Dent did. Don't remember how to do it, but we aced 17 alot.

If you bet when golfing, how much money do you bet?
Leonardite replied to ipark1303's topic in Golf Talk
I'm a fan of not necessarily betting money but say "lunch on the loser" or the loser buys a round for the foursome or something like that. As a side note, I've had many free lunches and rounds (my playing partners aren't very good). -
Shot 77 (38/39 - par 72) on Thursday morning. The green were pretty soggy so the putting wasn't very good, but it was nice to have shots stick within a foot of where they land when two weeks ago you had to land the ball ten yards short and have it roll up.

For majors? 18 Hole Playoff without a doubt.

As I look out the window right now it is SNOWING. Yes, in May, it is snowing. Not staying on the ground as snow, but it is coming down as snow with 20-30 MPH winds and low 30s. On the bright side, tomorrow 60's and sunny.

You could always use the marketplace and sell them to forum members. I would think you would have some interested parties from here if the price is right. As far as cleaning them are you talking about just general dirt/grass stains? If this is the case, I would just use a bucket of water and soap and soak them. If you dove for them in the first place, there wouldn't be a worry about "waterlogging" them (if this actually occurs, I'm not sure) and for the most part they would get clean. Another option would be to talk to some of the courses that you sold them to and ask how they clean balls in bulk.

This may be wrong, but the way I look at handicapped 4 ball matches is like this. You are a 14.. take the 14 hardest holes and give yourself a stroke Your partner is a 5.. he takes a stroke on 5 holes 21 & 17 you do the same with the 21 getting 2 strokes on handicap holes 1,2,&3. So for example on the 2nd hardest hole (hypothetically a par 5) You get a 6 (you get a stroke on the hole so you net a 5) - Par Your partner gets a 4 (he gets a stroke on the hole so he nets a 3) - Eagle 17 gets a 6 (He gets a stroke, he nets 5) - Par 21 Gets a 5 (He gets two strokes he also nets a 3) - Eagle Take the lowest score from both teams and compare them, disregard the higher scores. Result for hole: Push Hopefully this helped and made some sense.
