I voted Shivas. My reason is that good iron play requires good control over face and path as well as low point. The foundation of a good swing is more evident. I’ve seen guys who are good drivers that flip the shit out of the club but it’s teed up so they can get away with it.

When I hear a cup or a ball outside, I always think diameter from the rim of the hole. I almost never use either phrase anyway.
-
I chipped out successfully without hitting anything, so actually it’s 100% air 😜
-
I had this beauty of a lie on Saturday. Had to chip it out to the right with a 6i, away from the green. Not pictured is the tree branch I had to duck under to hit my shot.

Yea it’s just a numbers game. Can a pro tour golfer break the course record at a muni? It’s likely, given enough opportunities. Can that player break the CR in only one opportunity? That’s far less likely. The CR at my home muni is 62 IIRC, shot by a kid last year who is only a +1.4.

Birdied #13 at Quail Brook with a 15-footer. I thought it was new but apparently it isn’t. Missed a 3-footer on #12 for birdie that would have been new, but it was probably the dumbest 3-footer I’ve ever seen. It broke 12” from the apex and started rolling back towards me, leaving me 2’ uphill for par. I probably could have putt a foot past the hole and it would have rolled in from behind. Stupid hole location.

What else is he supposed to do? Even it is sunk cost fallacy, he has no options anyway. Coming out and saying that he regrets going to LIV has absolutely zero benefit for him.

I’ve been using the Club Booster V1 for almost a year now and I really like it. I almost bought the Cybercart during their first preorder event but I was worried it wouldn’t fit in my car. I have a lot of faith in the company that the Cybercart is good. I kind of still want one.

At the end of the day, tip what you’re comfortable with. From my service industry experience, nobody ever complained about being tipped too much 😃
-
If the website gives you a recommended tip amount for the fore caddie, then I don’t see the harm in tipping that amount. You can always add extra for exceptional service. $50 for the two of you as a tip, up to $100 seems more than fair. I (and my friend) did tip my fore caddie $100 each the last time we had one, but we were playing at a private club and I won the tee time for the foursome in a raffle. The kid was pretty cool and it was his only loop of the day. I don’t know what the other two gave him but I’m assuming about the same.

I don’t remember the source now but I read something about how he thought that him being a high profile player in his prime would have moved the needle more than it has. I assume he thought he could have his cake and eat it, too.

Sometimes, yea. Based on the reactions all over social media, though, this may not have been one of those times. I'm certain I take my job just as seriously has he takes his, but I have never made a decision to benefit myself at the detriment of dozens of others. But maybe that's why I have a positive reputation in my field and Kuchar doesn't. Remember that this incident is just the latest of a number of bizarre things he's done in the past. That's quite a number of hoops to jump through to try to justify this. I'm sure that's exactly what he was thinking, "those people love being here so much that they showed up to work for free, wouldn't they be so happy if I gave them one more day at the course?"

Those custom made ultra limited flight balls probably cost as much as Pro V1s 😜
-
Yea, it mattered to him, so f*** everyone else involved, right? He did what was best for him and that’s all that matters.
-
What you’re saying is he had a number of personal reasons to ignore the consequences of extending the tournament one more day for other people? That’s pretty much what everyone has said in this thread. I think on that we are all in agreement. Where people stand on different sides is whether his actions were justified or not. You know what I just realized this reminds me of? People who go into a restaurant five minutes before closing for a full service meal.

Tech Talks With Dean Snell
billchao replied to iacas's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I know it’s going to affect performance. My point is, is that effect significant, or is it negligible? Like I said, a clump of mud likely affects the ball more than it being decimals out of round. And let’s not pretend we’re robots hitting these balls, here. I doubt the inconsistencies in the ball are going to have a greater effect on performance than the inconsistencies in my swing. I’m willing to bet a significant amount of money that Rory will beat me in a round of golf playing with the worst ball MGS can find.- 33 replies

For More Distance, Don't Hit Big Draws
billchao replied to saevel25's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I thought it was pretty obvious that the ball only has so much energy to begin with and more time moving sideways meant less time moving forward. I guess it might have just been more obvious to me as a person who has spent a lot of time hitting balls sideways. -
Come on, man. You know very well that having the right to do something and that thing being the right thing to do can be two different things. As @iacas mentioned, a bunch of people had to show up on Monday for him. Some of whom presumably had plans to leave Sunday night, had to change travel plans, arrange for new accommodations, etc. Some whom presumably had to pay for these changes out of their own pocket. Was it GRAVE harm? Probably not. Was it enough for me to think he's a douchebag? Yea. Do I find it odd that your post is the longest in this thread despite starting off by stating you think people are blowing the situation out of proportion? Also, yea.

I'm with you on this take. IMO this is a rich guy with a successful PGA Tour career that didn't think or care about what the consequences of his actions would be and how they'd affect other people.

Recovering Groove Mid-play?
billchao replied to RefrigeratorRunning's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
If there was such a thing in golf and I knew what that was, I'd be a wealthy man. There are some general principles to scoring well, but in terms of how you personally are supposed to execute the mechanics of the various motions required to navigate a golf course, that's kind of based solely on how you swing the club and what your misses are. -
It's not often I pick a drive as the best shot of the week, but this is definitely it: It was an interesting tournament, filled with some good shots, a lot of mediocre shots, and some hilariously lucky shots. It rained for two straight days preceding the tournament, leading the first day to be cart path only (rare on this course). The course was soft and some balls we were getting negative yards of roll off the tee. I also slept poorly last night and by the 15th hole today, I was fatigued and my arm was starting to bother me, just generally feeling tired of playing tournament golf (two 5 hour rounds in a row) and wanting to get the hell off the course. I somehow made birdie on #16 after I hit an awful pop-up 3w off the tee onto the wall of a grass bunker and managed to hit a 3/4 LW from an awkward lie to 7'. I don't even know how I hit this drive but I remember thinking, "Just put the ball in play and get two more holes done." I hit it 280 uphill and into the wind, albeit more across than towards me, leaving myself a wedge in. It's generally a good drive if I hit it far enough to be in that last fairway bunker and somehow I managed to hit it 15 yards past it. It's the best drive I've ever hit on this hole and given the conditions, might be one of the best drives I've ever hit in my life. I had to laugh when I rolled in that putt for birdie, though. It just felt absurd.

I shot 90 today and won my flight. Does it count as a tournament win when only two guys were in the flight? I say yes. I won two tournaments this year 😜

Instructional Video Critique Topic

Did I say I was good at this? Apparently it's a different ballgame when you're in a fried egg and you're with the slope instead of against it. -
Neshanic Valley championship tournament this weekend. 36 hole stroke play. I’m in the C flight with one other guy. It rained for two straight days and the course was soft, plus the wind picked up late morning as it usually does at this course. Scores were up across the board but I think conditions worked in my favor as I played really well for an opening round of 87, net 72. Probably close to low net for all the flights today. Got lucky a few times and didn’t lose a ball when I hit a bad shot. We’ll see how well I do tomorrow.

TopGolf is way too expensive. I disagree that their food sucks, but it's certainly overpriced. It's mediocre, but there are a few steps to go before I'll say it sucks. And ironically, as Yogi Berra once quipped, "nobody goes there anymore, it's too crowded." Which absolutely applies in this situation because they're completely dead during off hours but it's impossible to get a bay at the times you'd expect to hang out at a place like that with casual golfers, say 6:00-10:00 PM on weekdays. The one by me takes reservations. That you have to pay extra for. Yea, I haven't been to it in years. Can't seem to figure out why.
