  1. definitely not. I prefer to use the bump and run technique. Log wedge only for shots that need less roll or are over a bunker.
  2. I have been playing the 56 and 60 degree wedges for about two months now, and I still do not understand if I should be letting them rust or not. I have heard that they work better rusted over, but I am a neat freak and clean my clubs after every round, so they have no opportunity to rust. The lower and center portion of the club head have lost the finish and now appear to be stainless steel. Could someone please give me a run-down on why these wedges were designed to rust, if I should be letting them rust, and the overall "purpose" of these wedges. Thanks a lot
  3. Lessons from a pro at a country club, and a cheap gap wedge. Get a really cheap gap wedge to fill your gap and spend the rest on lessons.
  4. Not quite, but it definitely has helped me, since the "old" me would have been too pissed off to have a chance at making par for the next few holes. And the tryouts did go well, shot 46 for 9 on an extremely hard course.
  5. 1) 20 handicap 2) 1st hole: Appeared to start out left of the target, and then began to fade towards the right side of the green 2nd hole: Straight 3rd hole: Started straight, ended up fading right 3: He seems to sway on his backswing, instead of keeping his hips more steady and turning them. Seems to have a slightly outside-in swingpath, causing him to hit the ball to the left and then have it fade and end up center, or right of his target. Awesome idea by the way!!
  6. Well after finishing "Golf is not a Game of Perfect" a few days ago, I have to say, this man is a genius. I had try-out's for my varsity golf team a few days ago, and shot a triple bogey on the third hole. In that situation I would usually lose my temper and go into a slump for the rest of the day, but with the help of this book I now understand how important it is to stay in the present and focus on putting my bad shots behind me. A "must read" for all golfers in my opinion.
  7. Can't be more well put than that. Exactly how I do it!
  8. I would fill those spots with hybrids. I use a 3,4 hybrid and they go far, high, and straight. Can't beat them!
  9. I would definitely recommend buying a set off ebay, something like the 2007 Cobra FP's. You can get a full older model set that's new or close to new for under $250.
  10. I do the exact same thing. I tend to hook my hybrids, and none of my other clubs. Playing it a little more back in my stance usually does the trick, along with thinking about pushing my hands on an in-to-out swing path and not turning my hands over so much.
  11. Thanks for all the replys. I purchased a sleeve of Bridgestone e6's and I'll see how they perform at my next outing. I would like to see how they compare to the NXT Tour's, and go from there. Thanks!!!
  12. Today I shot a 46 for 9 holes at my tryouts for my varsity golf team, the 2nd best out of 14 other people(terrible golfers at my school). I typically shoot in the mid-high 80's, and hit the ball pretty far. Drives go about 265-280 on average, and my tee shots are the strong point of my game. I currently am playing either the NXT Extreme's, or NXT Tour's, depending on the length of the course and conditions, etc.. I am willing to spend no more than $30 a dozen for new golf balls, and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have tried the HX Hot Bite's, but they seem to scuff up nearly immediately after putting them to use, and I can't afford to lose 3 balls a round due to scuffing. Hopefully you guys can help me out, thanks a lot!
  13. Feel as if you are coming over the top of the ball, from right to left. When I want to hit a fade I also stand closer to the ball and really come over the top.
  14. I appreciate all of the replys that I have already received. I think that a combination of me practicing drills and purchasing a putter that I can make a smoother stroke with will greatly improve my putting. Thanks for all of the replys, and I am open to any more suggestions or comments.
  15. Titleist NXT Extreme's. I just started playing them and they are very long and super durable. If you are on a tighter budget, I would suggest the Maxfli Noodles or anything in the Top Flite line.
  16. So, I have been playing golf for about 11 months now and I am about a 15 handicap. I average about a 260-280 yard drive and I feel that my long game is great. I am hitting nearly half of all holes in regulation, but it seems that I can't stop 3 putting at least 5 times per round. Today I had 7 three putts and 1 four putt, which is just terrible. When I putt I tend to wobble the putter on the take away and end up coming over the ball or pushing it as a result of an inconsistent take away. I also seem to have trouble lining up, and I am horrible at short putts. I would say that I make approximately 50% of putts from 3-5 feet. I honestly don't want to blame my putter, but I just can't seem to get a feel and just sink putts. The rest of my game has come with ease, and the putting has never been good. I think that if I had a blade putter I would have better feel because I like the style of the traditional blade. What do you recommend that I do? I am going to attend the Dave Pelz Short Game Clinic in a few weeks and that should hopefully help out my putting. Any help would be great! Thanks
  17. Good post! I am going to take this clinic in a couple of weeks, as my putting is just terrible
  18. I have "Golf is a game of confidence" and I am about half way done, and I have to say, it has helped my game tremendously. My mental game was the exact opposite of what it should have been, and nearly immediately strokes were shaved off of my game. I haven't been playing often and even when my swing is off, with the attitide formed from this book, I can still shoot a good round, which was not possible before I read this book. I highly recommend this book to any level golfer, but especially those who have high handicaps.
  19. Your toe should be slightly raised at address, or at least that is my understanding. I feel most comfortable with it just slightly raised.
  20. I would suggest the Tour's Edge Bazooka JMAX, which is $150(i believe) and performs very well. It comes in a draw or neutral model, and my father has the draw which he likes and I think it's great for the money. I would NOT purchase any driver without trying it, because I know that I personally don't like the Titleist driver. If I were you I would look at a used R580xd which you could probably get for about $60.
  21. I also tend to worm-burn-hook my 3 wood, and I fix that by doing the most logically thing that comes to my mind. Don't turn your hands over too much(causing my hook), and have an even balanced swing with a good finish. I also try and push my hands out to the right and instead of turning them over, leave them out there. Hope this helps.
  22. The Tight Lies are a great starter set, especially if you are on a budget. I was considering purchasing them, but instead I got the Cobra FP's which were a lot more money with all of my additions. Honestly, the only piece of equipment that you should be concerned about purchasing is a putter. I have used $30 putters that are great and $300 putters that feel terrible, so finding a comfortable putter will help with your feel and confidence on the green. If you have a good swing you will hit any clubs just fine, so don't think that by purchasing this set you will won't be improving, because you will. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to PM me, and I can even give you ideas if you choose to part away from the Tight Lies set.
  23. Good to hear. I would really recommend taking a lesson with a local pro if you ever fall into a slump. This will be a good refresher on what you are supposed to be doing, and you can use the recommendations in the future when you have some problems. For your hook in the future, think of driving a vehicle. Turning the steering wheel hard left will cause a hook. Try and dial in the proper amount of "turning" and push your hands out at contact, and you should be good.
  24. Personally, I would say ditch the lob wedge until you are a lower handicap or get a good feel for it. I put my lob wedge in my bag after only playing for about 2 months, and never touched it for awhile. It is a very hard club to get used to and until you get a good feel for what shots would need it I wouldn't carry one. Learn to use your sand wedge for all types of shots, and then you should put the lob wedge in the bag. I personally carry a 3 iron and no 5 wood + 3 wedges(and PW) and I love the setup.
  25. mp-57's if you're a mid player, and if you are a low handicap consider the 60-67's. If I were you I'd go try out every iron you can think of and decide from there. Only you can decide what feels good, not other people.
