  1. Find me a popular artist (any style) today that can release a good album top to bottom. Maybe Lil Wayne, who else? I listened to the Travis Barker remix - I don't see what was so cool about it. Took a perfectly good track and ruined it with rock guitars. I guess if you grew up with rock music (nonstop distortion guitar) then maybe the remix was an "improvement."
  2. One thing to keep in mind. The yardage books I see on TV, or in person, appear to have a plastic or laminated cover. This makes sense, because the guys keep them in their back pocket which is going to be a sweaty area during the summer. I would avoid leather or paper covers, unless you're not going to put it into your pocket.
  3. Way to be a buzzkill... Considering the 2010 Viking wasn't on live TV, and did not contribute points to FedEx Cup, and was opposite the Ryder Cup, I think the general opinion is that a move to the main season is an upgrade. I would expect a larger set of "stars" in July than I would late October. Plus live TV.
  4. The Viking used to be a part of the fall series, mostly made up of guys scrambling to earn enough to keep their tour card. As a volunteer I just received info that the 2011 Viking will be in July, and will give points to the FedEx Cup. I said "sort of promoted," because of two reasons - now the Viking will be opposite the British Open, and it will only provide half the normal number of points to the FedEx Cup. But all in all a good step I think for a tourney in the deep south. July in Jackson, MS - bring your sunscreen, shades, and shorts!
  5. If I don't see it, it didn't happen. Next time they come to you with their tall tales of low scores without you, the above statement should be the first thing out of your mouth.
  6. Many PEOPLE, not just celebs, stay married after an affair. I know people that even had a kid with another woman, and have stayed married. It's not just celebs. And why assume people stay together only for financial reasons? If you've ever been married, you should know that it would not be easy to just throw away all that time together, all those shared experiences, just because of a single incident. Now if someone is routinely cheating with others, then they really don't want to be married, and should get divorced.
  7. This is really unfortunate. If this (putting the hole on a slope) was done on the PGA tour, the players would scream at the top of their lungs at how unfair it is, and that it's not a true test of golf skill, only luck. If guys who get paid 6 and 7 figures wouldn't put up with it, why should we have to deal with this when I'm trying to have fun? I agree with the previous poster - don't play courses that pull these stunts, and let them know why.
  8. The PGA guys are out in the sun all day, every day. Their risk of skin cancer is 1000 times more than the average once or twice a week guy. Unless I see a significant numbers of pros wearing a "solar sleeve" I will consider them a solution in search of a problem. Put on your sunscreen at #1 and #10 - what more do you need?
  9. Whay are you blaming the hacker? It's the courses fault for not having their netting high enough! If he really hit that many over the net, then the net is substandard. LOL!
  10. Isn't the owner of the course/range at fault also, for not sorting through their balls and separating range balls from lost balls? They should not have the right to take my ball and add it to the pile of range balls, just because I mishit my drive... LOL!
  11. You nailed it. If a kid shows an aptitude for something, it should be nurtured as far as the kid is willing to take it. The job of a parent is to make good decisions for the child. Children sometimes need to be pushed to do their homework, or to practice a musical instrument. This doesn't mean they don't like school or music, but they are kids, who sometimes make bad choices and are lazy. Provide him with golf lessons, make sure he practices what he is being taught. It doesn't mean he can't also play rec baseball or soccer. You'll know if and when it's time for him to specialize - if he's shooting par at age 10, you might consider golf above everything at that point... Look at it this way - if he was a tennis player, he would be turning pro at 16 and no one would bat any eye...
  12. Can't make a call either way. They both have their ups and downs, and to be honest, the quality of both goes in cycles. Sometimes I like Golf, sometimes I like GD better. They are cheap enough (less than $20) that you should just subscribe to both. Not worth arguing about.
  13. A side question - Other than the US Open, do any other tournaments change the setup of the course especially for the tourney? I have been at Viking for the past 4 years - other than the pro tees, Annandale isn't any different than it is the rest of the year.
  14. How did they manage to make Taurasi look attractive? The ESPN pic makes her look downright HOT. Real life, not so much... Not that she would have any interest in someone like me anyway (not that there's anything wrong with that)...
  15. The guys I know who shot in the 80s and high 70s don't do it by scrambling and one-putting. They do it by getting on the green in regulation, and two-putting. Approach shots need to get on!
  16. I'm not sure I understand - are you saying that Pavin should have tested the rain suit before selecting it? I'm pretty sure when he put out the RFP for rain suits, the assumption was that it would keep out the rain. Should he have worn one in the shower? Isn't Sun Mountain supposed to do the product testing?
  17. You've got it. You don't even need a ball to practie this. I sort of recall iacas saying the same thing - get outside, put a mark where your ball would be, and practice hitting the ground in front of that mark. Over and ovar (and over) again, until it's ingrained. Of course, I've never had the gumption to try this, btu it seems like the right way.
  18. Come on, you know why this is allowed. Otherwise, there wouldn't be enough countries to hold a World Baseball Classic - at least not a competitive classic.
  19. My original question - "If Beem and Curtis are so bad, how did they qualify for the major they won?" - was a legitimate question. To get into a major, don't you have to play pretty well, or win some tournaments? Can you get into a major, without wins? Sure, but you must be doing something well, in order to qualify? Is it possible to "skate" into a major without doing anything impressive?
  20. If Rick Beem and Ben Curtis are so bad (relatively), how did they qualify for the major they won?
  21. Pro versus Muni - Every week a different tour pro is presented with a different muni to play. The muni will be unfamiliar to the pro. He will be given his bag and balls, a push cart, a scorecard with course map, and a pencil. He is allowed 15 minutes to warm up at whatever range the muni has, if any. No caddie, no practice rounds, NO BALL SPOTTERS - find your own ball or take the penalty. If he wants food or drink, bring it himself or buy it at the turn. No sychophants. Some munis will be short, some long. Some will be very well-groomed, some will be goat tracks. Some munis will play like country clubs, others will penalize even their best shots due to poor grooming. This is the way I play golf. I would put money that the average score at the end of the season won't be below 65, with several rounds above par. Put this on TGC, edit each round down to an hour - I would watch.
  22. You get it, jamo. We don't know what kind of a star the other guys would be, because they JUST DON'T WIN ENOUGH! Tiger would not be a big star if he didn't win so much more than everyone else did. Hype will only go so far (which is why Kournikova is a joke). Not sure Cornbread chose to dis Sharipova - she's won her fair share, including multiple majors. What's funny is that the casual sports fan (not golf fan) knows of Jack Nicklaus. That's not because of any "hype" - it's because he won, a LOT. The PGA Tour has proven that if someone would win a lot, they will be come a household name. Unfortunately for the tour, no one other than Tiger has done it since Nicklaus.
  23. Wow, that story made the pro sound like a spoiled princess. Never played a muni in his life, grew up playing on country clubs, etc. Last line in the story has the pro basically saying he would rather play Oakmont setup for the US Open, because it "suits his game better." Just like I've said in the past, assuming the pros don't have multiple practice rounds, assuming they don't have a caddy, there's no way a pro is going to go into the 50s, or even low 60s, on your typical muni. They're going to be bitching and moaning about the conditions, frustrated that their "good" shots still end up with trouble. I do believe that you give the pro half a dozen rounds at a given muni and he'll end up owning it. But not on his first time, especially if he's the type of pro who has only ever played perfect courses in his life.
  24. But remember, we're talking about a 20-HC... So when he duffs that first pitching wedge and now he's 190 out, what should he do? Two more pitching wedges? Read iacas' response - work on ball striking.
  25. So doesn't that make the tennis tourney MORE difficult? In tennis your results do not carry over into the next round like they do in golf. So in golf if I shot a 65 on Thursday and par the other 3 days, I have a pretty good chance of winning many tournaments. But in tennis, one great day won't help you in that next match...
