Two best sticks for me are my SW & 5 Wood. Couldn't have played my round today without them. The 5 Wood set up some nice layups that left me full or nearly full SW shots. I made some sweet pitches and two quality bunker shots that saved pars with my SW also.

I never want to give up my 5 wood.
-
I like the PTS tees with the yellow stripe. Works perfectly with my driver.
-
I don't understand whether you are asking for opininions of drivers that are easier to work or not. It's not clear from your statements. If you do want to sacrifice some forgiveness for ease of shaping shots the go demo a Titleist 909D3.
-
I'd drop the 1 & 2 hybrids and add a 3 wood and gap wedge.
-
The 07 & 08 Taylor Made Burners are extremely easy to hit from the ground. Nothing easier. My current fw woods launch almost as easy from the ground...especially the 5 wood.
-
My favorite club in the bag is my 5Wood. I hit it 20-30 yards further on average than a very well struck 4 hybrid. It's much easier to hit off the deck than a 3 wood (another stick I love, too). If I was just getting into the game like you are, I'd get much more use from a good 5 wood.

Ping G10 vs Cleveland Hibore Monster XLS
Dub replied to Balto's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
G10's custom made with your specs and shaft choices from Discount Dan's Golf for $209. G10 is a rock solid driver that is forgiving and very long. Great stick. Have never hit a Cleveland driver so I can't compare. -
At the time I bought my irons, I could've gone with either the G5 or the G10. My Pingfitter said he'd get me the G5's with the newer AWT shaft and that the difference would be almost undetectable hower the price savings was huge. I can honestly say that I am very glad I went with these vs the newer G10s. I'm very glad I went with the AWT shaft, too. It fits my swing way better than the stock CS Lite. I've never hit the G15 irons but the appear to set up very, very simular. I think the lofts are one degree stronger, though. Graphics on them look nice. I've got no regrets going with the G5 irons and wedges.

Way to tough it out. Funny way to learn but you never would if you hadn't continued and perservered.

Tips to Increase Spin With the Wedge.
Dub replied to Backspinalot's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Backspinsalot, just curious if your 11 hcp is from having to rack up all those additional strokes from having to putt and chip all those approach shots you spin back off the green. Without all that expception spin from your non-forged forged wedges you may even be a single digit. -
Bingo, Cussin Hacker !!!!! Ah...my kingdom for a smooth swing.... I've been really working on overhauling my swing. My old swing was a rare back, grip it and rip it style that relied on precise timing for everything to work. Guess what....precise timing was not always in the cards. As a result, I scrambled way more than my buddies. I've finally begun to reduce my backswing length and compact everything.....the results are very promising...straighter flights and much more solid and crisp contact. I love the sound/feel of impact once again...I'm hooked on that sensation as the club compresses the ball and the club follows fully through down the line and around my shoulders. I've been able to narrow down my swing keys to one thought...."keep it smooth". Shortening the backswing was something I absolutely struggled with. One of the errors I'd made with the shortened swing was to rush into transition to early, I suppose trying to duplicate the same handspeed for that location I was accustomed to. If I keep it smooth nice things now happen. I'm also playing one of the shortest driver shaft lengths I've ever played at 45.5". I used to buy into the hype that taller guys automatically needed longer drivers and that longer drivers would carry further. This shorter length seems to suit me much better. I have seen the older guys who are really smooth benefit from the old Killer Bee overlength drivers and such. Of course, they were also using a senior flex graphite shaft on their irons, too.

I tried a hybrid to replace my fw woods...results not good. I do better with the fw woods staying and the hybrids replacing my 3&4 irons.

You nailed it right down the middle!

I really like the 3 on tee shots, too. I just seem to be in more spots where the 5 is the "right" stick on my course. Number 16, par 3, 191 yards -- forced carry off the tee over a swamp. It shines here. Second shots on most of the par 5 holes. The shaft in these two sticks seems to have more backbone than my 07 Burner 3 wood. I don't lose these to the left near as much. It's funny cause I haven't had a 5 wood in the bag for a few years. Now I can't imagine not having it.

I want to change my driver, any thoughts?
Dub replied to four13's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I like my curret DComp & shaft fairly well. Over the last two years though I really went nuts over the G10. Best head I've ever used...superb distance and accuracy. You can order them made to your specs from Discount Dans Golf for $209...! I was dumb for selling mine to experiment with other shafts/lofts/heads. -
Guess what....they can be just as embarassed. Work on your self confidence. Know who you are and what you stand for. Be confident that you are headed in the right direction in life. This will appeal to the right kind of girls. The more you chat with them, the more comfortable you will be. Make it your goal to befriend a girl....just for friends sake. She can help you gain confidence through day to day interaction. She can even help introduce you to her friends. Stay away from the burnout loosers that exhist. You know who they are. Stick with folks that have something going for them...good students....active in their churches and athletics.
-
That is exactly right.

Wonder how well it gauges vertical misses? I think I'd get more from hitting pine cones in the backyard.....and much cheaper.

Bridgestone E5 / E5+ is a high spin ball that is a two piece construction.
-
I've played the E5's a good bit...I'll have to try the E6's, too. I'm concerned with them not holding the greens as well, though. I've got several sleeves of Callaway HX Hot balls that I bought on a great sale. I've played them the last two rounds and don't feel real confident in them around the greens. They are great off the tee but some of my full lob wedge shots hit and released a large distance from where my ProV1's used to. They would come in screaming and bite like a rabid dog. I love 'em, but I just don't like paying so much for them. I'm doing a lot of work on my swing right now and experiencing more errant shots than norm...equating to more lost balls. $$$$ adds up quickly.
-
Nice work....good luck and continued sucess with the new wand.
-
Exactly right!!!! I played in a foursome today with some friends. We've played a lot of golf together but never as a group at my new home track...point being, yardages on the 5 par 3's were something new to discuss (we are fairly loose with this type of conversation...nothing too serious, just share yardages). Anyway three of us are mid level hacks and one guy is a decent player. One of the hacks kept asking him on every par3 tee...what club did you just hit? My opinion is that is a dangerous question. Two entirely different games, two different swings....the single digit's club selection was irrelevant as far as I'm concerned. I'd say your 6 iron carry is spot-on....a good stock distance.

In the market for my first HDTV, any thoughts/advice?
Dub replied to Teklabz's topic in The Grill Room
Cool. Glad everything worked out for you. The HD golf is gonna make you an advocate for the whole project!!! Of course watching chick-flicks with your wife will be the true cost. Here's a iPhone pic of my set. Tiger is walking to his hooked tee shot on the first tee at the Masters. -
Pic finally made it.
