Its funny when chops play blades.
BostonBrew replied to kekoa's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
It isn't wise to judge someone because of the equipment they choose to play with. Nothing says only good players can use blades and bad players use cavity-backs or game improvements. A couple of months ago, I was grouped with a middle-aged man who had a set of game improvements that were only A-6 iron and the rest were hybrids and fairway woods. He matched me stroke for stroke on the front nine and shot 40. He hit it dead straight every time. Should I have judged him for not playing a less forgiving club? -
DJ is -4 thru 5. Phil struggled and shot +1. Looking forward to watching the coverage.

Think Stevie Ray Vaughan reincarnated... Joe Bonamassa - Blues Deluxe

Golf Digest just put this up. Phil's handicap as well as a few others. http://www.golfdigest.com/golf-tours-news/blogs/local-knowledge/2013/06/yes-some-tour-pros-have-a-handicap-phils-is-52.html

Really wish Golf Channel would just give us more coverage of the PGA Tour when things like this happen. I'd much rather watch the PGA Tour play without commentary than watch last year's Wegmans or images of the girls hitting balls on the range.

Brittney Palmer. And I'll just mention that yes, she's in Playboy.

What do you need to play par?

More power to you and I hope the best for you. But just consider everyone's reaction on here as a warning from more experienced players. The number of times I've "figured it out" are beyond countable. -

Golfer's High (akin to Runner's High) - the euphoric feeling that results from striking the ball well on the range. -

One shot I will always remember comes to mind. Playing in Raleigh, NC, but I forget the course name. Fairway was straight ahead of us with a line of bushes about 100 yards short of the green. Nutted a 3 wood dead straight. Bent down to pick up my tee not thinking anything of it. Should be in the middle of the fairway. Drove up and the ball was no where to be found. I assumed it was in one of those bushes but couldn't find it. For pace of play reasons, I dropped by one of the other guys.

First, I would suggest recording your swing and posting it in the My Swing part of the forum. It's much easier to offer advice with a visual of the swing. Second, I would highly recommend you setting an appointment with your local PGA Teaching Professional.

Official 2013 U.S. Open at Merion Discussion Thread
BostonBrew replied to iacas's topic in Tour Talk
As a golfer whose misses are to the right, that hole is incredibly intimidating hahaha. Can't wait to see how punishing this course is for the guys who miss the fairways. -
Picked Billy Horschel, Dustin Johnson, Ian Poulter, and Camillo Villegas this week.
-
I know Tiger didn't play well at Memorial, but I think he hit 84% of the fairways. If he continues to do that next week, although from the looks of it I'd be surprised if anyone hits 84% of Merion's fairways, then he just needs to putt well. Easier said then done I'm sure.

2013 US Open Prediction Contest with iliac Golf by Bert LaMar!
BostonBrew replied to mvmac's topic in Tour Talk
I'm guilty of this and realized it only after reading the rules AFTER I posted my picks. I facepalmed. Now I'm really pulling for Luke Donald to win as he is my only viable chance at winning. -
Had one of those last night. Unfortunately I had a few too many of them. Rough day today.

Bought the SkyDroid GPS app for my Android this past weekend while playing some courses I was unfamiliar with. For $2 it's a hell of a bargain. All of the courses we played were available for download. The main screen gives you the yardages to the front, middle, and back of the green. It also has a zoom feature that uses Google Maps to give a satellite image of the hole you're playing with yardages to different features (such as lay-ups before the water, and to the front edge of a fairway bunker). Wasn't too stressing on my phone's battery either and it automatically put my phone in silent mode while it was on. I've been looking to buy a Bushnell range finder soon, but for now, this app is fantastic. I figured I'd share since I know there are some GPS apps that are free to download but then charge a fee halfway through the round. So if anyone is looking for a cheap alternative to buying a rangefinder or GPS, I strongly recommend this.

They currently have a promo code for Fathers' Day. FDSFREE gets you $30 off and free shipping. Figured I'd share for those considering it. Too steep price wise for me but it looks cool.

I'm always excited for the US Open. Can't decide if The Masters or The US Open is my favorite major. The weekends of those two tournaments are probably the only weekends that I can guarantee I won't be playing golf. Instead I watch every second of the coverage. From the pictures provided, the course looks stunning. Just hope the weather continues to cooperate. Although, I think one wet day would be fun to watch. -

BostonBrew replied to pipergsm's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Yeah. I know it's harder to get from 8 to scratch than it is to get from 18 to 8, but I've played with some 18+ handicappers and I'd like to say we didn't share too much in common in regards to our golf game. -
Awesome. I wasn't expecting that.

Yesterday, I faded my tee shot just into the woods that lined the hole. Had a small opening between two pine trees. 176 to the center. I had a clean lie but it was on pine needles. Hit a beautiful 5 iron through the gap and it faded toward the green like it had eyes. Landed on the green about 20 feet from the pin. Two putt par. Couldn't have been happier.

Yesterday, I played with a friend and two guys he knew. On multiple occasions, I'd be sitting on the green and waiting while the three of them looked for one of the others' ball. I would often finish my hole and then go look for a minute or so. Then we got to the second par 3 on the front nine. My friend was also on the green while his two buddies were off in the woods. The foursome behind us was on the tee box waiting for us to clear the green. I told him to go ahead and putt while the others continued their search. He looked at me like I was suggesting he break into a car and steal a wallet or something. I realized pace of play never even occurred to him. He's a 100+ golfer. He knows the rules in a rudimentary fashion as well as the common courtesies and etiquettes. But he hadn't given any consideration to the golfers behind us. Fortunately, the other two guys were aware and gave up their search, marked a double-par on the scorecard and we moved on. I think a lot of the pace of play problems results from the guys like my friend. He just doesn't think about the pace of play or the groups behind him. He's going to hit bad shots. He's then bound and determined to look for the ball, no matter where it is. And he'll hack it out and continue playing. Fortunately, he's not a ball-hawk who cares about always finding his ball and I was able to teach him about hitting a provisional and that sped up our pace a fair amount on the back nine.

Yesterday, I was explaining to a good friend that golf is like crack to me. It's what I think about most of the day. I can't get enough of it. Even if I play poorly, all I want to do is tee it up again. I could easily play 36-54 holes a day, 7 days a week, time and money permitting.
