Not that I care nor is it any of my business but what doesn't make sense to me is why? Your call whether do clarify. You are looking for a cheap set….guess that all anybody needs to know. Lots of good suggestions on the "where". And hell, for 2 bones you can get a pretty decent set. Check out MP32's, should be plenty for that price range on eBay.

So you're looking for a "cheap set" to use as your " after work 9 holes play around clubs" until you "move up to a good set" eh? O.k……doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me but I wish you the best. BTW, not all blades are (or were) created equal….far from it in fact. Besides, you should be more interested in finding a set with a shaft that matches your swing. Anyway to answer your original question try craigslist or garage sales.

...just about any wedge on the market will last 99% of a mateurs longer than 1/2 of a season. Best advice I can offer is to keep your grooves as clean as possible.

MP68 paired with DGX100 vs PX 6.5 vs KBS tour
Bump-n-MI replied to qtong's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Can't really comment on the KBS but I'll throw my $0.02 about the PX and X100's. Currently I have 3 sets of irons all with 3 different shafts (intentionally). J33B w/X100 J33B w/Rifle 6.5 J36 combo w/PX (flighted) 6.5 Readers Digest version is the Rifle 6.5's gave me the optimum flight, spin, and control. The X100's gave me a much lower ball flight but I gained a few yards. The PX 6.5's were the worst fit for me as I struggled with feel and ball striking consistency. -
The last several weeks have been very strange. I've been flat-lining for the majority of the season but now it's like feast or famine. Focus has been the main issue with my inconsistency (divorce, I'm finding out, will do that to you). I have my daughter every other week...my off week I've been playing a ton of golf (about 54 holes per week)…my on week I do not touch a club or even think about golf. Even many of my good rounds have been roller costar rides. I actually wanted to walk off the course 2 of my last 5 rounds because the game became a chore. I've almost developed a dependency on golf the weeks I do not have my daughter. My last 5 rounds: 77 (36-41) 1 birdie, 6 bogies 72 (38-34) 1 eagle, 5 birdies, 5 bogies, and a double 88 (40-48) 1 birdie and a ton of "others"…actually had the sh**ks! 70 (34-36) 1 eagle, 2 birdies, 2 bogies 69 (36-33) tournament score 1 eagle, 3 birdies, 2 bogies Sorry, this post was more of a vent to my fellow golfers then anything else.

From my experience Mizuno reigns supreme among the better amateurs. I would say 2-to-1 over Titleist and 5-to-1 over the next brand.

Much ado about nothing. What do you want Rory to say? Bottom line is Tiger's the best player on the planet (at least that’s what the world rankings say) but he is playing the worst golf of his career. Hell yes, now is the time to beat him. Too funny. That's two hum-zingers today!

Too funny but so true.

Deep breath…and relax. Your buddies post was not a malicious attack on you or your golfing ability. He was merely stating that experience outweighs research. So freakin sick of hearing this I want to puke. First, who gives a rats-ass what the pros play. Second, everybody that I personally know plays whatever clubs they have the most confidence with…it just so happens that about 1/2 play with blades. Third, I am better with blades then I ever was with cavities, GI's, SGI's, or whatever else has come along in the past 30 years. I play with whatever helps me get the ball in the hole the quickest. Hurt how? A mishit shot is going to "vibrate" regardless of the type of club.

My hands sweat like crazy as well so I can relate. However I'm not so sure the issue is with your grips. Sweat and grime can turn grips into slip-n-slides after only a few shots. Worn grips will obviously perpetuate the issue. It sounds to me like you need to carry a wet and dry towel. Wipe your grips and hands off before each shot.

A championship flight that is net? Crap, total crap. I'd be at every board meeting cracking skulls (figuratively speaking). We have several guys that choose to "win the big prize" playing straight-up with the big boys in our Tuesday money game. We call these guys donators. Flights are an absolute necessity for tournaments with broad ranges of handicaps.

You are either a -or a If somebody intentionally hits, throws, hurls, shoots, etc… anything in my direction that could potentially cause bodily harm the gloves are off…….jackass.

Feel 'nothing' when hit sweet spot with blades
Bump-n-MI replied to khale's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Some of you must have this magical sensation and feeling in your hands . I think many of you want so badly to believe that blades offer this "superior" feeling -or- you have convinced yourselves they are "buttery" because of all this intranet babble . I've been playing blades on and off for over 30 years and I have yet to experience this superior feel (oh, and I've hit a few of my iron shots on the screws in my day ). What is the biggest gripe about GI and SGI irons? Next to the massive size factor I believe people complain most about the "mute" factor or lack of feedback. Not sure what ya'lls definition of "buttery" is but I'm pretty sure it means you don't feel very much (at all) after a well struck shot . -
Honestly, I can't remember the last time I played when money wasn't on the line! I even bet myself when I play alone .

Our club championship is a 36 hole stroke play format (18 Saturday / 18 Sunday). Day 1: Saturday started out extremely wet and it continued for the majority of the day, actually it made for great scoring conditions. Greens were shaved to the bare minimum and double rolled but were extremely receptive because of the wet weather. Started out hitting 3 straight fairways and 3 straight greens but failed to capitalize on any of the birdie puts. #4, man how I hate that flippin hole! It's a shory at only 315 yards but takes über accuracy and you must favor the left side of the fairway (OB right and a huge oak with overhanging limbs on the right as well). I almost missed my hybrid (hit it high on the toe) and pushed it OB. Re-tee, perfect drive and hit my approach to 2 feet. It was a very good bogie under the circumstances. Proceeded with 3 straight pars and a birdie on #8. Then comes the par 5 9th (only 500 yards). My scoring average on this hole is 4.85 so this is one was counting on to get me into red figures. Hit my drive OB, chunked my 5th and was fortunate to get an 8. Thought my chances were over but played solid on the back with 9 straight pars and ended up shooting 75. Unbelievably I was tied for 4th and only 4 strokes behind the two leaders. Day 2: Beautiful morning. Much cooler and less humid. Greens were still fast and receptive. Rough was lush, thick and penalizing. Was in the final group and only 4 behind the leaders. Birdied #1, bogied #3 (dumb ass 3 putt), then made 14 straight pars. We get to 18 and I am only 2 strokes behind the leaders (both bogied #17). 18 is a medium length par 5 that was playing directly into the wind. We had a fairly large gallery lining the tee box, portions of the fairway, and surrounding the green. I'm up first and hit a beauty down the pipe. Leader #1 hits next and pushes his drive OB…..leader #2 also pushes his drive toward the OB stakes. Both hit solid provisionals Leader #2's ball was in play but he could only advance it about 60-70 yards. Leader #1 has 240 to the green and hits a beauty but his ball rolls through the green. Pin was only 2 paces on the green in the middle left (crown shaped green with severe slope). I'm next and have 230 left, hit a 3 wood pin high and thought it was going to be within 10 feet. My ball rolled past the pin and caught the slope and rolled into the thick rough. Leader #2 has about 170 left for his 3rd shot. His ball balloons into the wind and ends up 20 yards short of the green. He chips his 4th shot to about 4 1/2 feet….a tricky 4 1/2 feet! Leader #1 was next and chipped his ball to almost the exact location as leader #2 (4/12 feet). I'm next, had about 25-30 feet chip from an uphill lie. Ball was sitting perfectly and was thinking nothing less then holing it out. I'm still not sure why I chose my 60* from a fluffy uphill lie….but anyway proceeded to pop it straight up to about 5 feet. Sank the putt for birdie! Leader has 4 1/2 feet to win the championship and…. oh well…..2nd isn't too bad

number of par or better holes a round as it compares to handicap
Bump-n-MI replied to clearwaterms's topic in Golf Talk
2010 Stats (72.90 scoring average) 0.10 Eagles 3.14 Birdies 10.40 Pars 4.10 Bogies 0.20 Dbl Bogies 2009 Stats (73.40 scoring average) 0.08 Eagles 3.74 Birdies 9.48 Pars 4.34 Bogies 0.52 Dbl Bogies I am keeping the ball in play much more often this year (more 3-woods off the tee) and minimizing my blow-up holes. Birdie production is slightly down but my overall scoring average is a tad better. -
Cleaning your room is one of your chores……..and you are 19? Guess you have no choice since you can't use either of your dads cars. Oh wait - you could walk, ride a bike, call a friend, take a bus, take a cab, go play later in the day….the possibilities are endless! I don't think you "need to convince your parents"…I think you need to seek alternative resources.

Hell, you never know what frame of mind the guy was in. I am going through a divorce and had a million thoughts going through my head the day I shot that score…. Nobody is immune to mental blocks and everybody will suffer from a lack of focus at some point in their playing career.
-
Listen, everybody (and I mean EVERYBODY) has blow-up rounds. It's a whole lot easier to judge a persons potential by his swing rather then to judge him by 1 lousy round. My last 7 rounds go something like this. 70 74 72 89 72 74 71 (71.4 / 129) It's a pretty heavy accusation calling out somebody that you only played 1 round with.

Just trying to be courteous for those that may watch the taped telecast later on. I enjoy watching the beginning of every telecast to see who shot what during the early tee-times.
-
While I agree with cleaning them with mild soap and water I would suggest doing it every 4-8 rounds….20 rounds of hand sweat and grime will start breaking the grips down quickly.

Everyone keeps taking about the quantity of practice time….you can spend 8 hours a day 364 days a year on the range and never get anywhere if you do not understand the golf swing. Get some lessons to fine-tune your swing….swing flaws are fairly easy to fix if you have not been playing long. It's all about quality and not quantity IMHO.

Can't decide which grips to get
Bump-n-MI replied to robbo323's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
What is with the "white grip" craze ? Guess I just don’t get it….
