Fade with a one plane swing.
nlowplacez replied to trumpetgolf's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
ya 5 lessons (hogan) is a MUST. and i used to watch tons of video of hogan swinging, and i actually studied trevino a lot even though i wouldnt call him a one planer. he was a push fader though, and i studied his swing pretty much from puttin the club in the slot on down to the finish. my biggest aha moment was at the range one day and saying to myself "lets try one swing as flat as i possibly can, just take the thing around my ankles." (started as a two planer) when i did that i hit the first ever absolutely pure golf shot of my life. i of course didnt really take it around my ankles or swing as flat as possible, but i felt like i was. from that point on for a few years i played a little baby draw that was kind of mid to low flight and i wanted to hold more greens, so i switched to the fade which only took like a week or two to make the switch and make it consistent. having an almost true one plane swing i dont really have many swing thoughts. i sometimes have to remind myself to turn the hips first and to pay attention to my ball position down to the millimeter since that has the most effect on what my ball does, if my ball pos is off just a little bit i can hit a lot of thin shots and even chunk a few, but puttin the ball in the right place always fixes it (mine is an inch inside the left heel) but as a one planer we don't have to think about tempo and rhythm as much or have as many swing thoughts. you pretty much just bring the club back and GO! feel like ive typed a lot so if you have any other ques just lemme know -
ill give you one more example, the entire PGA tour (except maybe one or two guys)

Fade with a one plane swing.
nlowplacez replied to trumpetgolf's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
ya im about as one plane as they get and i play a fade mostly. its actually almost harder for me to hit a draw now. i use a slightly weaker grip and align well left of target, usually on drives aiming my feet into the left rough and with approaches somewhere around the left side of green depending on pin placement. using a pretty one plane swing my path is in to out a good bit so i can only play a push fade, which is what i think you meant by synthesizing. oddly, my face is a few degrees open at adress, but i believe it is even a degree or two more open at impact. unlike some people i actually dont try to hold off a release or anything. i just swing my normal swing and the weak grip delays the squaring just enough to put about a 5 yard fade on my ball. theres a lot more little things i can tell you, but if you have any questions just lemme know. ps yes you can hit a fade with one plane and normal alignment. just because your a one planer doesnt mean you swing in to out. in fact it can promote out to in sometimes. i used to put the ball off my left toe to fade it using my same swing basically. this got the club hitting the ball on the return side of the swing arc which made it out to in, but i was way to prone to pull hooking and pulls. maybe just a matter of preference -
right now the world is not allowing tiger to play golf HIS way. his cussing and hissy fits is part of his competitive spirit, and i truly believe that helped him get demons out of his system before the next hole. our criticisms are handicapping him mentally, when all we have to do is not record the sound on him sometimes. i can't say for sure since im not him, but i bet his thoughts drift to "okay tiger, dont say anything bad cuz i said i wouldnt, and i gotta look good." those thoughts have nothing to do with his golf round and that hurts big time

i admit to knowing hardly anything about stack and tilt, but say original poster wanted to pursue this seemingly legit method. would he still follow putting weight on back leg and then shifting. all i have heard about s and t is that you stay on the front, but am not sure if thats even right.

Acceptance of New Ball flight laws
nlowplacez replied to michaeljames92's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
i mostly agreer except im more of the grip change school. i would like to use the same swing for every single shot in my repertoire not including getting out of trouble. so if i want to fade i weaken the grip, draw use my normal neutral grip since i have a few degrees in to out on my normal swing. i do kind of teach it both ways, because it sort of depends on if the players has the ability in his hands, and can manipulate his swing in motion. i can do both but have found a grip change to be way more consistent. but other than that i think our ideas on the ball flight LAWS are in line. not theories btw. -

huh? clubface open 1 degree to target line? then swing 6 deg left of target line and it goes straight? i think im misreading this. or is club face open 1 deg to swing path and path is 6 deg left of target line? not sure what u mean -
all i can say is driving range, range, and more range. you'll find it in the dirt. (grass hopefully) just make sure you do it right and not just hit balls. on course scenarios even down to the pitch shots and aiming and aligning each shot. and get a couple lessons to make sure your not practicing all the wrong moves. video your swing to analyze if feasible, and read five lessons. don't mix and match instruction books or instructors, cause they all contradict each other. (doesn't have to be five lessons if you prefer another book, but that is DEFINITELY my reccomendation) i know its a cliche answer and you might think it doesnt help, but sadly range is the only way

2-DVD Instructional Set by Tom Watson
nlowplacez replied to PuttPutt's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
i bet its good. watson is the man. if you get it i would pay special attention to his chipping instruction if he gives any. hes probably the best chipper that golf has ever seen. -
first, if your pushing AND slicing, if it is the true definition of the words, out to in path would help for the slice, but your obviously swinging in to out on a push, as thats the only way to do it. now if your push slicing and pushing, then your swing PATH is fine for a draw, and you need to get the club face more closed. a strong grip could help if thats the issue, as could a number of other things, such as not getting stuck, releasing club like earlier stated which goes along with pronation, and other things like swing plane issues. oh, and by strong grip, i mean position strong not strength strong. can you get a vid up of your swing or something?

i don't know what to say. i'm looking at the picture, and the knee flexes for the right leg are virtually the same in both photos. I don't know how we can be seeing this so differently. please watch his live swing. im just posting the first one i found on youtube. pay special attention to the right leg sorry here it is. dont know how to put videos on here and stuff. sorry nevermind i guess it worked. notice how much more his knee cap sticks out when hes at the top of the swing. he may have even increased the flex -
Extending the Right Knee on the Backswing

you betcha. could a decent golfer please chime in on this. im looking at the same pics yall are and for some reason, yall are not seeing that none of the legs are straight. except for the pic the poster above submitted, which does look like a not so great backswing. if i saw it when giving a lesson, the first thing i would say is keep the flex. i can't believe the cluelessness going on here -

Extending the Right Knee on the Backswing
nlowplacez replied to Zeph's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
is this a joke post? nobody straightens their knee on backswing, and you would look retarded if you did. the flex in those knees in those pics and videos is the same as it was at address. the left knee is flexed more making you think the right one straightened. please dont tell people to straighten their right leg in backswing. you might completely ruin some peoples golf swing -
i cant tell where your aimed but i would bet you have a pretty good out to in path. you need to start down slower and smoother, and initiate it with a litthe hip turn. if you start a little slower comin down you might be able to get the club down onto the right plane. what does your ball flight most commonly look like? another thing that makes me think you starting down with too much upper body (insufficient hip turn) is your foot on the follow through. look at it. see how the heel is outside your toe instead of straight vertical. that USUALLY means your upper body went first and pulled the lower body around after in the downswing. tell us how ur ball usually flies

Driver Vs. 3 wood, having a hard time...
nlowplacez replied to sp33d's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
its either not hitting the sweet spot or curving the ball too much and losing distance. you hit one 288. if the short ones were straight, you just need to find the sweet spot, if they were bananas or hooks, then its obviously a mental thing that affects your driver swing or a terrible shaft, which i doubt is the cause since you used to hit it good. pretty sure i just repeated what everyone else said but whatever -
watch a swing vision of somebod like jim furyk. his hands are practically in his pockets on the downswing. great for two plane swings, or in his case EXTREME two plane. Tiger used to have more of a reach for the ball, because his hips were so far gone by impact his hands couldnt be close to them. his action is a little closer to furyks now. and most good strikers have hands close to the body on downswing. very very few amateurs do this. hmm, wonder why that is.

oh, and if you fire your hips through faster than normal, its almost impossible to hit a draw. i fade by firing the hips with a very slightly open clubface, and draw by holding off the hip turn a bit, with a square face. obviously aiming left for a fade and right for a draw. but i only ever draw once every few rounds or so anymore. I just HATE the way they look and land. ugly

I don't think so. Play either a draw or a fade until you get to single digits. Not both. Hitting mostly draws and then starting to fade it will get the timing of your hands messed up to where you can't go back to a draw, and vice versa. Now, if you want to switch to a fade permanently (good idea IMO) then go for it. But I wouldn't reccomend going back and forth until you have pro consistency in one shot shape. My 1 cent.

Keeping the lower body "quiet"
nlowplacez replied to Caddyshack's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
im hoping you mean on the backswing. and its a pretty easy drill to help. but make sure you have the flexibility to keep the lower body quiet with a wide swing arc. otherwise you may need to let the hips turn (not slide) ala jack nicklaus, bubba watson heres the drill, or actually just a technique i used to use. just kick in the right knee. done kind of like somebody putting their foot on the outside of your knee and just pressing. it wont let your lower body slide. if you do need to turn quite a bit with the hips just concentrate on keeping the weight on the inside of the foot and dont let it get to the outside. hope this helps GL
