I heard the replay the other day, they gave McCain's positions but attributed them to Obama and, to a person, everybody agreed we need to finish up in Iraq no matter how long it takes and Palin would make a great VP. Bread and Circuses...jmoc

Yes, but with the ability to buy the government back out of their banks, the Dems would have, and tried to, just buy the banks and Federalize them. When BHO gives the Chancellor Palpatine "I love Democracy, I love the Republic..." speach we'll all feel better....jmoc

Amen brother, a fellow Óglaigh na hÉireann. The last Dem that promised me a tax cut was Clinton, took a month to turn back on that promise he made to the working men and women. BHO is more of the same, won't be long before 50K is rich. Sadly, McCain is not the answer either... jmoc

Exactly, In my life I've never worked for a poor man, I've never gotten a raise in pay from the lower class. With the Dems in control of Congress and The WH, there is nothing to stop our goosestepping toward Marxism. Guess I better get used to the "Government Cheese"... jmoc

They could go around the country and hold auditions (like Am Idol), you could have Andrew Magee, Kenny Mayne and maybe Stina Sternberg at a table to the side and have them review the hopeful's performance. I bet you could get some real characters.... jmoc

I've got a Karsten CRAZ-E that I use on slower greens that treats me well. My best all around PING is a G5i Pal that has been a solid performer. The first putter I bought was the PING Sedona i and putted with it for years. I just get a little wristy with it, kind of a "Palmer" pop if you know what I mean, and have to watch for that. Still my favorite... jmoc

I'll agree these guys and gals are not PGA/LPGA material, but I like seeing somewhat more average Joe's chunk or chilli-dipping now and then. I agree with Iacas, we could set up an office pool on the over under on their rounds. I was amazed that the coach had a complete meltdown, I just hope he's not the golf coach. I feel for James, he's clearly not over Andrea, and his less than stellar performance is not helping his cause. Here's hoping love conquers all, or, more likely, as Groucho Marx says, Time wounds all heels.... jmoc Just read the Bio on GC for Michael; Occupation: Head Men’s and Womens’ Golf Coach at Long Island University/ Head Golf Professional/Lead Instructor for Simductive Golf at Mercer County Golf Academy....Yikes, University Golf Coach and Head Pro, that bunker performance can't be good for his street cred.....jmoc

Top Flite D2 (I know, it's Top Flite)
jmoc replied to 1chaos52's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Try the Freak, I reall like this ball. I get spin around the greens (or so it seems to me) and good distance, I was really impressed. Tried the Gamer but it did not do any more for me than the Freak. I use the D2 Feel also. You have to check out the web site, they have an interview with the D2 Man and Kenny Maine, awesome... jmoc -
Wow, you got some great choices there. The 2nd set with Driver, wood, hybrid, irons, putter and bag would not be bad at that price. Then in 2 years or so you could upgrade if the mood hit or stay with them as they will serve you well. At 100 pounds, the Deep red Irons are a steal, you could then get a Putter, bag and Wood/Hybrid or Driver of your choice, you'd end up spending more money, but if you shopped around, not much more. Depending on who you play with and or where you play, the Deep Red Irons would give you a bit more "street cred" on the tee. I like the 5 through LW as I find 4 wedges save more strokes (for me) than my long irons or woods do. I hate to recommend, but I think the Deep Red Irons are almost too good to pass up. You should be able to snag a bag for 30 or 40 bucks, and you get to choose the color. I'd get a hybrid of 22* to 25*, you can hit it off the tee, from the fairway and the rough. Add the putter of your choice and you probably won't spend much more than for the set. Either way, sounds like you know what you want and are pretty well aware of your game/ability. Good hunting... jmoc

Daniel, here are my thoughts on starting out. Remember, everybody is different, you might be able to smack a 3 iron out of the rough 210 yards, or maybe you can't get a 7 iron airborn off a tee, so take this (and other) advice with a grain of salt. 1) loft is your friend. I used to recommend beginners not get a driver and use a 5 wood off the tee, but with todays drivers being so huge and coming in lofts of 12 to 16 degrees, it's hard not go ahead and jump in with both feet. 2) Confidence, like loft, is your friend. Assuming you don't buy a set of blades (players' clubs), go with a set you like the looks of. I'm always amazed when I'm out and some one will pull out a some OLD wood barely bigger than my putter and knock it 25 yards past all of us. His next statement is usually, "This thing is old, but I just love this club." If you struggle with your driver, take 2 or 3 inches off. Tiger used to hit his driver with like a 41 or 42 inch shaft. When I started out I took 3 inches off and started getting better results, then added it back on as I improved. Hybrids generally treat you better than the long iron, and you can buy a lot of sets that start with the 4 iron or come with hybrids already. You can even use it off the tee instead of a driver. I've had my but kicked several times by old men that hit it 180 off the tee straight down the middle. Check out TGW, Golfsmith and Edwin Watts, they have great deals on last year's sets. I got a set of Wilson Di7 4-SW for 299.99 on Ebay brand new. That has to be the most forgiving set I've hit in a long time, and I love the looks of them. Add a wood or hybrid and putter and that would have you set for almost any course. The quality of today's sets is such that you can't go too far wrong with anything you buy as long as you get a name brand set. Unless you hit the ball well now, it won't do you a lot of good to test out a lot of clubs, just buy a good "game improvement" set that appeals to you, try not to spend too much, and have a great time... jmoc

I, too, like the smaller headed drivers. The Callaway C4 is one of my favorites, as well as the BB II. The TM r7 Superquad is 460 but looks smaller. Check out some drivers at a golf shop, it is amazing the difference in sizes they appear even though they all are 460cc..... jmoc

I'd been playing about 3 years, shooting 78 to 83, then one day I shoot 56 on the front 9, I thinking, what the....! It was like that for the next year or so, every couple of months, bam, no game, no driver, no irons, no putter, nothing would work for a few holes or a few games, then everythings ok. Got so bad, one day I just rode in the cart for 2 holes, I needed a time out. Not quite so bad now, but every once in a while, things just don't work right. I've got a favorite pair of boxers that I always play well in and when I know I'm going to play that day, I make sure to wear them. When they can no longer render service, I'm going to have to find a way to keep them in the game, maybe have a puttercover made with that as the liner or stuff them in the bottom of my bag so they will always be with me! .... jmoc

Find a Mom and Pop type place. In Wichita, there is a shop, "ProLink", he trades and sells used clubs, does fittings and repair work, adjust lies and loft, that sort of thing. That's what your looking for. The Golf Warehouse is located here and the guy that runs the place is straight from "Bushwood CC", must be the Judge's long lost relative or something, a real @#%$. The other day he talking about how he can't crush his drives 330 anymore because he has "the Gout". I nearly busted a gut. Sometimes you'll find a guy (or gal) that cares, but for the most part, they are just there for the sale. Like you I swing around 90, but I hit 13.5 and 16 degree drivers with senior shafts. If my friends hit them, they would be lucky to get it 100 yards, that is if it ever came down. I had a friend that hit 7 and 8 degree drivers higher that I did 11 degrees. Look for a small shop, good luck..... jmoc

Exactly, that would have been perfect. And then they started crying when they end up being tied, get over it, Charlotte and her brother had a 4 stroke penalty for just 2 holes and you couldn't beat them. Time for the Team Ash to go. I'll have to admit to being amazed by Raul's par and Jamecia (choke) bogey. I had to turn away from the TV every time Raul went back, yikes! But the guy performed under pressure.... jmoc

First round with new driver....PING G10
jmoc replied to Dub's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Love my G10 driver, and it does like a easy swing. IMO, it is the longest driver PING has ever made.... jmoc -
In our company golf league, I had a guy from the other team "nick" his ball with a pratice stroke, he just snags it with the club and scoots it back to where it was. I was livid! Another guy would, not only ground his club in the bunker, but would then push it down behind the ball and back it out, creating a trench and effectively teeing the ball in the sand! They did all the other stuff too. We get to the 8th tee box and my partner, who's been trying to keep the peace, can tell I've about had enough, says "well, only two more holes to go." and I look directly at the other guy and say "Yep, and I can name one of them." I haven't done this yet, but I'm going to print out a set of the "Sortagolf" rules and keep it in my bag. Then when someone gets too liberal with the rules, I can just hand that to them and I say "You are now ready, Grasshopper, there is nothing more I can teach you".... jmoc

Played a course in Tennessee with one of those huge Metal "Eifel Tower" power poles in the fairway. Talk about a styme ... jmoc

That usually happens when I finally get to play course I've always wanted to play or I just shot a 78 the day before. It's a strange game, some days your golden, the next your lucky not to injur yourself or others.... jmoc

As you can see from my bag, I too have drifted away from the woods to just irons. Will I ever be a single digit handicapper without a 250 yard from the fairway club, probably, but I'm not getting there playing only once a week either. I found that I got into more trouble with the woods than they saved me strokes. Unless your par 4's are 450 and the par 5 are 575, you can get to any green in regulation with driver and iron. It really come down to knowing and enjoying the game you play and, as "Dirty Harry" said "A good man knows his limitations"...... jmoc

My Father was an excellent golfer and took me out a few times, but never had the patience to teach me the game. I did not play again until I was in the Air Force and then only a couple of times, but the few brilliant stokes I stumbled into remained in my memory. Money kept me from the game, but when I move to Wichita I took up the game as the green fees were only $16 per round (now $20). I love this game, to quote Patton (again) "God help me, I do love it so."..... jmoc

You know, I was going to let this go, but, the more I thought about it the more it really torqued me off. I don't know what has happened in lesliebbgolf's life, but to come on this blog and say that as your first comment is offensive, to put it bluntly, and smacks of the racism to which you accuse others of. Raul and Jameica are very nice, which is a good quality for a spouse and what you want in a friend, but does that alone make good TV or water cooler talk the next day? No, people will talk about who fell down or excelled, who got into a fight with who or who called the other a so and so. Raul and Jameica are very solid, but not much spark. When they kick butt, create an incident, or tell each other to "run like no fat boy has ever run", people will discuss it. It's that simple.... jmoc

I've always wanted to play there. How did you shoot? My Boss's Boss played there and hated it, but he doesn't care for links golf. Sounds like you enjoyed it. Do you need to play a different game there, he said up and down did not work, the greens would not hold anything. I think he's just not a links player. your thoughts...... jmoc

Sorry, should have said Irons, the 3 and 5 are not woods. A lot of the holes on these shorter courses are 325-375 yards so 200 off the tee is plenty to keep me in scoring range. That gives me 8 clubs and I perfer the wedges to the 4 and 6 iron as the wedges save me more strokes per round than the irons do, but that's just me.... jmoc
-
There are a couple of shorter courses around here that I have taken 3, 5, 7-pw, sw and putter (I would probably sub a hybrid/9 wood for the 3 now) and actually scored better or no worse than normal. It is fun to fade, draw, or choke up to get the ball where you need it instead of just pulling a club and taking a swing. I think it kinda takes the pressure off and helps you to swing smooth. And really, how many par 5s can you not get to in three with a 3 and two 7s? Good luck.... jmoc
-
With more weight on the "front" [left] you have to pay attention to the swing path. Since there is more rotation based on that "point", you need to come in at the ball more on the inside, straight down the line will produce a STRONG draw. The other thing is the tilt, if you are performing more of a Reverse Pivot, that that will sent them left fast. Movement should be lateral, if you tilt forward during the down swing, you don't stand a chance. I really hate to give swing tips without seeing the swing, and I hope I haven't given you too much infomation, but good luck..... jmoc
